ZURICH, June 27 (Reuters) - Argentina international Ariel Ortega has been ordered by FIFA to pay Turkish club Fenerbahce an astonishing £6.6million compensation for breach of contract.

The midfielder has also been banned from playing any club football until December 30, 2003, world soccer's governing body said on Friday following a ruling by its Dispute Resolution Chamber.

Ortega left Istanbul-based Fenerbahce midway through last season, despite being under contract to the Turkish club until 2006.

A FIFA spokesman said the player had 'committed a breach of the employment contract signed with Fenerbahce on 13 February 2003, without just cause, and thus must pay Fenerbahce an amount of £6.6m as compensation.'

Former River Plate player Ortega, who was a part of the Argentina squads for the 1998 and 2002 World Cups, joined Fenerbahce for 8 million euros before the 2002-03 season.

And honestly we don't want him at all. He was good for the first 3 matches, his moves fooled D, he was pulling off some crazy stuff, then after 3 games the D weren't even letting him move, ortega is a baby and he can go home to argentina coz he misses his mom...

I still respect his tallent though...I juss dun wana see him play for fener.

Ortega should be able to pay it off ok. He was getting 2mill playing in Iran. PLus his other davings from payments, sponsors from Nike etc.
