PORTUGUESE PRESS SITUATE QUARESMA AT DEPORTIVO
Portuguese newspapers like "Record", "A Bola" and "O Jogo" have all referred to the possible transfer of Sporting Lisbon player Quaresma to Deportivo. They claim that the club has offered 8 million Euro for the winger (19-years old). "O Jogo" even assumes that the transfer deal is almost done, and quotes president Lendoiro of Deportivo. But the paper added that Sporting want to receive at least 12,5 million Euro for the player.
At Deportivo it was denied yesterday that Lendoiro has made declarations to this newspaper and one has to take into account that the player also has been related to Manchester United, Juventus and Internazionale. However, the paper adds that the interest of Deportivo goes back to last December as the club is said to have offered then amount between 13 and 15 million Euro at that time.
What cannot be denied is that there has been contact between the clubs about a possible transfer. Galician newspaper "La Voz de Galicia" wrote about it on 21 May and the contacts were admitted by the Portuguese club. They assured that people from Deportivo (and Celta) watched the derby between Sporting and Benfica on March 3 and also have seen Quaresma playing at the Portugal sub-21 team.
Quaresma's agent Jorge Mendes has admitted that he wants to discuss a transfer with Lendoiro, wherever that will be. Probably this week negotiations could start with the player. Both Sporting and Deportivo held good relations as in the past players like Naybet (1996), Hadji (1997) and Duscher (2000) came from the Portuguese club to Deportivo.

PSVFOREVER 30-06-2003, 02:37:PM Great player, this would be a great buy for Depor, but doesn't Victor play at the same position?
::shinji:: 30-06-2003, 04:04:PM Is Djalminha still property of Deportivo? I know he had been loaded out to an Austrian club for a while...if this Quaresma deal does go through, Sporting would be wise to try and get Djalminha in the transfer, he's a great player..

Yeah he does but he's had a poor season so Irrueta wants him out.

Yeah he is still ''property'' of Depor but he will probably be used in some kind of transfer deal whether that being a swap or for money.
Hugo-45-Viana 30-06-2003, 06:36:PM I doubt Quaresma will agree on a contract with Deportivo. I can see him going to Madrid if Ronaldinho falls through, the Man United affair I think may have decreased from Carlos moving to Real.

I don't really believe that Ricardo Quaresma is gonna be released by that VERY LOW prize...he worths a lot more...BTW : Sporting don't need Djalminha, cause have at least 8 players to he's position and Djalminha is getting old and he's BAD COMPUSURE won't be any good for Sporting lockroom!!!!!! Sporting wants at least 20 000 000 € for him. And end of talk!!!!!
valioso 30-06-2003, 08:51:PM deportivo hasnt even payed espanyol for sergio.. so they are in quite a problem.. since if espanyol sues them.. they wont be allowed to make any signings
Jambo82 01-07-2003, 02:28:AM Interesting that deportivo might not be able to sign this kid. If he goes to a team like Manchester United then he wont be a regular. Maybe he will be at deportivo. He should stay at sporting and make with all the other great youngsters there and improve them.
Mihalcea 01-07-2003, 02:31:AM i hope quaresma stays for this season
and djalminha to sporting?no thanks...that man brings more problems than Jardel

Yesterday, president Lendoiro of Deportivo almost finalized the deal for Portuguese winger Ricardo Quaresma (19-years old). While being in Madrid, Lendoiro had a new meeting with Jorge Mendes, the agent of Quaresma who also represents Sporting Lisbon in this case.
The transfersum Deportivo should pay is estimated to be around 7 or 8 million Euro, despite Sporting Lisbon asked 12 million Euro some weeks ago. But knowing the bad financial situation of football these days, Sporting Lisbon decided to accept the offer of Deportivo. Quaresma will sign a seven or nine year contract in Galicia, keeping him there until at least 2009.
Lendoiro will meet Quaresma tonight, as the player had accompanied Mendes to Madrid for a commercial campagain. In declarations before travelling the winger had expressed his preference to play at Deportivo next season, although clubs like Manchester United (Carlos Queiroz had recommended his signing), Liverpool, Milan, Juventus and Barcelona also are interested.
Quaresma also made clear that this decision is based on playing Champions League football next season and the fact that he will meet Jorge Andrade again, with whom he has shared playing at Sporting Lisbon.
“Besides, I like the team and the region too. And I know that Irureta wants me, and he has seen videos of me. For me it will be important to play in Spain at a club like Deportivo because next year there’s the European Championship in Portugal. And if I play a good season at a club like Deportivo, I will be there too”.
Eduardo López Beci, technical director of Deportivo, praised the young player as he himself had been gathering information about him. “It’s a boy with a tremendous future. He has great physical features and can perform at both wings. In th past season he played at the right wing, but normally he plays at the left. He’s fast, has a good assist and overall is a great player. But despite the comparison, he hasn’t yet reached the level of Figo”.

Looks like he's going to Depor and NOT barceloona as someone else said.
