View Full Version : Gold Cup Various Styles 13-02-2000, 03:30:AM Gold Cup competition began today with the U.S beating Haiti 3-0 in what was a truly boring match. Italia82 13-02-2000, 03:56:AM Is Canada in there. Various Styles 13-02-2000, 05:38:AM In the second game of the Gold Cup opening double header Colombia edged Jamaica 1-0.Not a very good game. Various Styles 13-02-2000, 05:47:AM Group D will be seeing action tommorow as Canada will be facing Costa Rica. Various Styles 13-02-2000, 11:02:PM Canada and CostaRica tied 2-2 in what was the second day of Gold Cup compeition. GINOLAAHH! 13-02-2000, 11:27:PM i heard a while back that mexico were trying to move the CONMEBOL to get better competition and therefore improve their play. do you think this would help the US aswell(if they were to do the same)? GINOLAAHH! 13-02-2000, 11:29:PM thats, move INTO the CONMEBOL PolishPower 13-02-2000, 11:43:PM I don't think that was the story, to my understanding it was the South American fed. that floated the idea of combining the two federations. I don't think it will happen, for many reasons. Various Styles 14-02-2000, 01:06:AM Mexico defeated Trinnidad & Tobbago 4-0. Day three of Gold Cup competition will resume tommorow with Jamaica vs Honduras and Haiti vs Peru. Various Styles 14-02-2000, 01:26:AM to Ginolaahh: Mexico wanted to become part of the South American Football Confederation (CSF) because of their higher level of competition in WC qualifying and Cup play (Libertadores). Mexico belongs to the Confederation of North,Central America and the Carabbean wich denied them any type of confederation exchange where Mexico would replace Venezuela in CSF and Venezuela wich has never classified to a WC would replace Mexico in Concacaf.Mexico however has become a permanent invitee to the Copa America (CSF Tournament) and Mexican Clubs play elimination matches against Venezuelan teams for Venezuelas two team spots in the Copa Libertadores... PolishPower: I did hear of a possible merger between Concacaf and CSF but the problem was that the only teams that would benefit from this would be the Concacaf teams and it would also cost CSF teams a lot of money. PolishPower 14-02-2000, 05:17:AM As far as I know the main obstacle is that Mexico and USA know a good thing when they see it- concacaf (or whatever it's now called) full of mediocre teams, meaning their participation in the World Cups is almost a given. I don't think USA especially is keen on having to play very tough matches with teams from S. America for those spots if fusion of the two came about. [This message has been edited by PolishPower (edited 02-13-2000).] Various Styles 15-02-2000, 06:48:AM Jamaica was eliminated today from the Gold Cup as it lost it's second game to an improvised Honduras team 2-0. Various Styles 15-02-2000, 07:16:AM Puru in a disapointing match tied with Haiti 1-1.This result automatically qualifys the U.S for round two of Gold Cup competition. TommyBoy 16-02-2000, 05:09:AM canadas going all the way baby Italia82 16-02-2000, 05:42:AM Can any one tell me the result for Canada vs North Korea. Go Canada!!!! Various Styles 16-02-2000, 06:00:AM South Korea outplayed Canada to a 0-0 draw as both teams bored me to sleep ZzZz. [This message has been edited by Various Styles (edited 02-16-2000).] The Kid 16-02-2000, 06:07:AM 0-0 at half time. PolishPower 16-02-2000, 06:43:AM Canada is the surprise team of the tournament. The 2-2 draw with Costa Rica was a better game. The Canadians scored the tying goal on a bicycle kick, Dwight Yorke style. Various Styles 16-02-2000, 09:05:AM Manchester United's Dwight York lead Trinidad & Tobaggo to a 4-2 victory over Guatemala. Various Styles 16-02-2000, 09:14:AM The Kid: Canada and South Korea tied 0-0 final score.Polish Power,About the surprise team.Canada hasnt won a single game and their oponents have been of the same level of play i would wait for the second round to crown THE SURPRISE TEAM. My choises are Honduras and Costa Rica. ::shinji:: 16-02-2000, 04:57:PM VariousStyles is right, calling Canada the surprise team is way too premature. They were somewhat lucky to get a tie against an impressive Costa Rican team, and they played absolutly terrible against South Korea. That game was incredibly borring, Canada didn't have a single chance to score. Various Styles 17-02-2000, 05:21:AM Honduras defeated Colombia 2-0 !!! OH, DID THAT LEAVE YOU WITHOUT A COMEBACK. SUX TO BE YOU, DOESN'T IT. AND DOESN'T IT SUCK THAT MEXICO HAS OWNED YOUR CUP FOR THE PAST 4 YEARS ? I'd love to whoop you in FIFA2K Goodsport 17-02-2000, 08:46:AM Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me (it's hard for me to remember in my old age http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/wink.gif )! That doesn't make me a bad USA fan, either. Just honest. But... why do you have to be so rude about it? Starting off in ALL CAPS is what Goodsport was referring to. It's considered to be equivalent to YELLING! Your choice of using insulting words with no provocation was also offensive. Personally, I agree that Mexico will probably win the Gold Cup. I think the USA will give a strong showing for themselves, but even if they make it past Colombia, which I think will be hard given the history, beating Mexico in LA will be unlikely... but not impossible. Most USA-Mexico matches over the past 5 years have been very exciting, close matches. I hope to see another one in the Final. If "whooping" people at FIFA2K is your highest acheivement in life perhaps you need to turn your computer off for a while and read a few books. http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif Your bio has you as a student in Ohio, USA... Why do you act with such spite for the country you live in? Unless you are at a private school, my tax dollars are helping pay for your education! TeKNoS 17-02-2000, 08:00:PM For all of you who cry about my postings: I will be honest, I am living in the US and I appreciate it. And yes, I do study, and I am an honor student with AP classes =) As for your education and tax dollars, check up the secondary education given in Mexico compared with that of the US, and see which one you would rather be paying for. I took classes here AGAIN in 9th grade that I had taken in Mexico in 7th grade, that's depressing. Anyway, this IS a FIFA2000 forum, so I have all the right to talk about FIFA2000. Hey if it's so bad why don't you challenge me some time, that way we can settle things once and for all =). And anyway, Mexico has won your cup since 1996, accept it and stop crying. Even you know that the US needs to evolve. I do not hate this nation; I have American relatives. I simply dislike the attitude of the US national team, which needs to improve greatly. That's all I have to say. Nuff Said Goodsport 17-02-2000, 08:29:PM << And anyway, Mexico has won your cup since 1996, >> That may be true, but I believe that you're talking about the U.S. Cup. This thread is about the Gold Cup (Copa de Oro), which is not 'our' cup... it belongs to the Football Confederation (formerly CONCACAF) to determine the Confederation's champion (although Peru and South Korea were invited into it as well this year). << accept it and stop crying. >> I re-read this whole thread, and it seems like you're the ONLY one who's ever mentioned it. << Anyway, this IS a FIFA2000 forum, so I have all the right to talk about FIFA2000. >> Then what's this all this talk about how the US team sucks in the Gold Cup and stuff if this is a FIFA 2000 forum??? << Hey if it's so bad why don't you challenge me some time, that way we can settle things once and for all >> How does that prove whether or not the game is bad? And when did I say it was bad (I said that there were a lot of complaints about it on these boards... READ what's written next time!)? << Even you know that the US needs to evolve. >> So because it needs to evolve (which I've already acnowledged that it did), I'm supposed to root AGAINST my own country?!? http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/frown.gif << I simply dislike the attitude of the US national team, which needs to improve greatly. >> It's true that most of the World Cup '98 US team and staff kind of had that attitude... but what most people here seem not to notice is that the entire staff (coaches, trainers, etc.) and almost the entire roster is completely different now. What I appreciate about new coach Bruce Arena is his ability to admit that he needs to look deeper into the talent pool in the US than Steve Sampson did (who basically took almost all the same players to the World Cup that had played with him for years). And so far this current squad hasn't really displayed that much of an attitude (at least not NEARLY as much as that World Cup '98 US squad did)! But more should definitely be done to find the talent in this country, though. -G [This message has been edited by Goodsport (edited 02-17-2000).] TeKNoS 17-02-2000, 08:59:PM What other cup would I be talking about ? The USA cup...well we've won the gold cup too since way back anyway i'm dropping this issue because i wasted a lot of time and I alm0st didn't finish my paper topic for AP history last night The US team needs to improve...and that's all I have to say. Viva Mexico =) And who cares about how much FIFA2K sux...I'm still damn good at it ! that's what so good ;0) It may be a horrible game, but I am still good. Anyway, see ya guys Nuff said AC MILAN 17-02-2000, 10:06:PM Keep on bragging till someone kicks your green, white and red a$$. I'ver personally won ALL cups and leagues already and I just consider myself an ok player. By the way, arriba los RAYOS y abajo el amierdica!. jsbach 17-02-2000, 10:50:PM Ok then, we all agree that the USA needs to improve. Great. What team doesn't? (Even the Brazilian people think their team needs to improve.) And we all agree that FIFA 2000 has problems... Great. Feel free to whoop anyone you want at it. No one cares. Various Styles 17-02-2000, 11:21:PM Whats this about Jsbach and Goodsports money payng for Teknos edumacation,Theres plenty of illegal immigrants in the U.S who will NEVER get to see the money deducted from their pay checks due to fake social security numbers.Take all this money the goverment gets to keep and divide it by the amount of hispanics going to college or university (very few) and you still have more than enough money left so that the Goverment doesnt need to pick your pockets to pay for "minoritys" or non U.S citycens.Illegal Imigrants in particular are generating enough money that Corporations are begining to take notice EXAMPLE before McDonalds would air their english commercials dubed in spanish NOW they make spanish commercials using hispanics, another example magazines like People and Cosmo and many others now also print their magazines in spanish all this targeted of course to the spanish speakig community especialy illegal immigrants who havent learned english yet.Why all this attention to such a particular group $$$ i cant of any other reason so when it comes to deducting money from hard workin AMERICANS such as you two Various Styles is damn certain your money aint going to Teknos edumacation.JUST FOR FUN today i saw an add in the news paper where Miller Brewing Company is going to donate $1,000 for every goal Mexico scores (in the Gold Cup) to the U.S education leadershp fund. Various Styles has his fist in the air in the land of hypocrisy !!! Various Styles 17-02-2000, 11:40:PM Somebody said something about it would be o.k for the U.S to lose to Colombia !!! what the hell are you smoking this colombian team sucks ass.take a look at how Colombia got here first their coach was doing fine he takes their sub 23 team to the preolimpico got some damn good results but had the bad luck to face the Brazilian team wich tore their ass apart 9-0 to a rhythem of samba conducted by Ronaldinho and Alex.this coach gets fired and the new one had like two days to chose new players for the Gold Cup the other coach was going to bring the sub 23 spiced up with some seasoned veterans (this team would have been much better) as we can all see Colombia bearly beat lowly Jamaica 1-0 and got their asses kiced by Honduras 2-0 and the only reason Colombia is advancing to the next round is because Honduras beat Jamaica into submission 2-0.Therefore losing to Colombia should be considered a failure... [This message has been edited by Various Styles (edited 02-17-2000).] fifafanatic 18-02-2000, 12:21:AM So, does anyone care to talk about the Gold Cup, since that's what the topic started off as http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif Only 2 clubs have won impressively, USA and Mexico. I'm going to go out on a limb here, but I really do think that the US will meet Mexico in LA for the finals. They have won there games even though they haven't looked as good as most fans would hope they would. Heck, if they've been winning this way, can you imagine how they would look when they start getting it together? The World Cup is 2 years away, plenty of time to improve. And for those who keep on mentioning that "the US placed last in 98," get over it. Your talking about something that happened 2 years ago. Last year the US placed third in the Confederation Cup in Mexico behind Brazil and the champions Mexico. So why don't you guys use that example instead? One last thing, USA for Gold Cup champions 2000!!! TeKNoS 18-02-2000, 01:00:AM Hey racist bitch....yeah you AC MILAN ANYTIME, whenever you want. you just set up the date. ;0) I can brag all I want you cheap whore =) AC MILAN 18-02-2000, 04:50:AM "Hey racist bitch....yeah you AC MILAN" First of all, I can't be racist with my own race, you stupid kid, I'm south american. "I can brag all I want you cheap whore =)" Second of all, we're not talking about your mamma =). Time and date? Nah, I don't want to waste time on you kicking your a$$. TeKNoS 18-02-2000, 04:54:AM cause you can't put your money where your mouth is stupid imbecil and you may be hispanic, but you have no respect for your fellow countries and stop with the mamma jokes, i'm sure you can do better than that if you're so good...why can't you prove it dumbass ? whenever you want, i will make you my bitch nuff said AC MILAN 18-02-2000, 05:02:AM Respect for fellow countries?. let me ask you this... Do you have ANY respect for any countries at all? Coming here and dissin the US. Know what??? just be quiet kid, think before you open your mouth. I might have gone a little far w/the mamma thing.... that's all I can say about that. I don't need to prove you anything. I'm who I am in f2k, which you'll never know. I could easily beat you, but you're not worth it. Plus, I get all the real competition I can get around here so I don't need you to show me how pathetic you are on the game. NUFF SAID TeKNoS 18-02-2000, 05:07:AM AC MILAN Coward is the word that describes you best YOU are not worth my time. Personally I have played over 800 FIFA99 matches, 200 on FIFA2K since I started playing recently, and all of these on world class I don't think you can beat me easily dumbass. Just try me =) And if you don't, then keep your mouth shut. You don't know until you experience EAT ME AC MILAN 18-02-2000, 05:12:AM WOW over 800 matches! uff, quite an experience. Hehe, you're just too much, you make me laugh so hard. you know what...just.....haha, forget it. You'll never ever be as good as me, but that's alright kid, keep on trying. Now...NUFF SAID, you are not worth my time. Over and Out!. Mr. Knowitall 18-02-2000, 05:20:AM Canada would have made some noise had they placed Alex Bunbary on the squad and not suspended Tomas Radzinski and Brad Parker. I don`t think they are out yet. ( depending on what happened between Costa Rica and South Korea.) Keep in mind Canada is without Mark Bircham as well. Mexico will win this tourny no matter how bad the U.S want it. Sorry thats the truth. TeKNoS 18-02-2000, 05:23:AM You know what ? You're right, I would never be as good as you WHY ? because I would have to lower my experience level to be at the same status that you are anyway, you have no balls, and you are trash. when you can prove what you speak so much of, then come back and talk to me anyway, i have more important things to attend to =) Goodbye, Farewell, Ciao, Adios, Adieu... Various Styles 18-02-2000, 05:44:AM Tecknos go post your topic on how good you are on f2k somewhere else. This topic is about THE GOLD CUP and not on how many games you have played !!! you have all ready ***t up my topic on gold cup results !!! and if you want to play footie i mean real footie with a ball on a surface if you are ever in L.A any time any place !!! I think the USA will give a strong showing for themselves, but even if they make it past Colombia, which I think will be hard given the history, beating Mexico in LA will be unlikely... but not impossible. >> I also agree that Mexico will win the Gold Cup. The US could very well lose to Columbia (in which there would be no shame, since Columbia is a strong team), but if the US plays Mexico in LA then it will be a road game for the US http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/frown.gif (I loved how the US moved the US-Mexico '98 World Cup Qualifier in 1997 to Foxboro, Massachussettes... at least the U.S. was able to have a home game against Mexico for once http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/wink.gif - and as I recall, both qualifiers played against each other that year ended in a draw). << Most USA-Mexico matches over the past 5 years have been very exciting, close matches. I hope to see another one in the Final. >> Yes! As a matter of fact, the last two or three meetings them both resulted in Mexico beating the US 1-0 IN INJURY TIME... and those were competitions, NOT friendlies. The Mexican press went so far as to call both those games "Superclassicos" (i.e. Super Classics). http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/biggrin.gif << If "whooping" people at FIFA2K is your highest acheivement in life perhaps you need to turn your computer off for a while and read a few books. http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif >> Exactly. If Mr. TeKmoS goes to a public school, then my tax dollars are helping pay for his education. There's no debate here. It's the way it works! Public schools are paid for mainly with public money... in other words, tax dollars. This has nothing to do with nationality or race. The fact is I work and I pay my taxes every year. I do not cheat on them nor do I ever plan to. From Tekmos' own statements, he said he is in "AP classes." You don't have AP classes in college. He is in high school. But it wasn't the main point anyway... the main point was RESPECT... and so far he has shown it to no one. Goodsport 18-02-2000, 07:43:AM << He is in high school. >> Unfortunately, that explains a LOT! http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/frown.gif -G [This message has been edited by Goodsport (edited 02-18-2000).] |
