View Full Version : Barthez to Arsenal
Bobby 15-07-2003, 02:05:AM Barthez to Gunners
Arsenal are keen to sign Man Utd stopper Fabien Barthez on a 1 year/£4 million deal. The French keeper was quoted as saying "I'm sick of the politics here in Manchester, it's no longer about football in this club, it's all about money. I will buy out my contract if needed, so the team can't get money from Arsenal by selling me.". Arsenal say they would be greatful if he signed for the club, "He's a great player, and a good guy" said Arsenal hitman Robert Pires. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger: "He would be a top signing as we need a keeper".
The north London outfit started their preseason with a 1-0 loss to Peterborough at London Road, a game in which current no. 1 Stuart Taylor took a knock and needed to be carried off.
If the deal goes through Barthez would battle with Stuart Taylor for the number one shirt left behind by legendary David Seaman after 13 years in north london.
valioso 15-07-2003, 02:08:AM is that a joke? why would they sign such a horrible goalie? havent they learnt from man u?
Hendrik 15-07-2003, 02:13:AM :S  :|
Haukur Gudnason 15-07-2003, 02:28:AM "I'm sick of the politics here in Manchester, it's no longer about football in this club, it's all about money. I will buy out my contract if needed, so the team can't get money from Arsenal by selling me."
damn straight baldy :junior:
various papers in the uk have published this for a fact, seems a deal is close to being agreed. who knows, next will be ruud to west ham to help with the promotion.
"I'm sick of being a gravy train striker here in Manchester and getting stick fer it by a certain Welshman, it's no longer about football in this club, it's all about money. I will buy out my contract if needed, so the team can't get money from West Ham by selling me."
apparently fergy is willing to replace him with a younger and more explosive cameroon player reported to be Ah'cannae Samba Samba
enigma 15-07-2003, 02:30:AM very weird.
out of the blue.

Hendrik 15-07-2003, 03:47:AM Okay: He sucks.
Help? 15-07-2003, 04:11:AM To the news:
hahahahaha:D :D :D :D :D . Yeah, right.
To the Barthez performances:
Maybe you should start watching more United games and not read what the news papers say. Oh look, Barthez made 8 great saves and didn't save one easy shot, now he is a very very bad keeper. That's pathetic.

he does ? Yup :jap:
btw. let's stop pb :brow: :crazyboy:
valioso 15-07-2003, 04:14:AM I dont like Barthez and I have seen him a lot of time, his positioning is always wrong.. and he jumps legs forward instead of trying to cover space

lol ... aight min :p
Ebonix 15-07-2003, 04:21:AM I absolutly hate Barthez, I'd rather see him rot on the Man Utd bench then play at any other club.
If Arsenal sign him, its like killing off there hopes of a championship before the season starts and any other silverware.
I would be laughing if I was Fergie right now, making money of this piece of crap.
Crusad3r 15-07-2003, 05:45:AM The best sign up of this season for ManU will be Barthez joining Arsenal :p :rockman: :rockman: :hump: :hump: :hump: :rockman:
syaz_wan03 15-07-2003, 06:33:AM ....yeah Barthez should leave....MU will only be great if Barthez gone and replace by Buffon or Cudicini (in my opinion only)
if u watch ucl match vs Madrid at old trafford (at that time i'm big MU Fans)
i'm very upset with first 2 goals by Ronaldo......does he know how 2 play soccer as goal keeper....if we c at first goal especially.....how can top class keeper (b4 this:crazyboy: ) lose a goal at goal post angle??
perhaps the only good thing is....change the keeper!!:hump:

Man Utd won't get that much from him...
antithesis 15-07-2003, 06:50:AM I'd love him at Arsenal, if only because there'd be no penalties against, and red cards for defenders, because alot of those referees will have ManU flashbacks.
Many of you doubt his ability but that save against Henry in the Highbury game was one of the most important saves of the season.
Help? 15-07-2003, 07:06:AM And that's what i am trying to prove. People just mostly read what the papers say and don't try to review everything closely. And the papers make it so bad to attract readers that people start to think that way. Barthez had some bad games, but he also had some great games, even in CL. And he really saved United in a couple of premiership games, like Liverpool (2-1), Birmingham (2-0), Arsenal (2-2), Tottenham (1-0), Aston Villa (1-0) and the list goes on.
Bobby 15-07-2003, 07:08:AM Thats why he'll be great for Arsenal.

then you must think Seaman is better, and thats ****ing bull****.
If theres any goalkeeper people should critcize, its seaman, and his ability play like ****, but his ability to make one great save and have the headlines goings crazy, saying he's amazing cause he's so old.

1 good save does not make him a good goalie.. he is too incosistente and always bad positioned

He makes atleast 2 good saves a game. Henry's save was mentioned, as an example and not the only save Barthez did in the whole game.
tottiiii 15-07-2003, 09:30:AM Barthez is good yes, but he often gets beat on very simple shots .....hes a reaction type goal keeper and depends on that and his reading of the game, which sometimes is good but sometimes is very bad.....valioso said it somewhere , he just falls feet first at the ball without really trying to just stop it...its as if hes trying to make the save before the ball is shot , if you know what i mean

Seaman is one of the greatest Keepers ever to play for England. In the World Cup He and Kahn were the Best Keepers there. People in the English Team were even saying so. Ok he made a couple mistakes but compared to the amount of Match Winning/Cup Winning saves he has made it is nothing. Just because the Media say hes done doesnt mean he is
kashik 15-07-2003, 11:51:AM im not comparing barthez to seaman of the past, but of today. His performance has been all downhill, his career is done. I just dont see how Barthez can be compared to him. Barthez is a great keeper. He does screw up, but that is shown in all keepers careers. Barthez has a future and Seaman doesnt, so lets not all push the **** to hit the fan on his career. Dont phase out a world class player based on a season with sparce mishaps.
Its going to be interesting to see Seaman play next season, I cant see anything better than this last season.
John_Arne_Riise 15-07-2003, 01:17:PM PaPaGeorGeo, Seaman was no-where near as good as Kahn at the World Cup. Not even close.
At the moment, i'd take Barthez over Seaman anyday and i hate Barthez. Seaman is just too old in my opinion, there is no spring in his jump to get those balls targeting the top corner. Example? Hmmmm..... maybe Ziege's free kick goal at White Hart Lane.
But Barthez can pull off some miracle saves, and then a minute later he could give up the softest goal ever, with Barthez i guess you just never know what your going to get sometimes. Who could forget those 2 howling mistakes he made against Arsenal a few years back.
Fernandez 15-07-2003, 02:00:PM good move.....must be part of wengers french contingent.... we mu fans can boo him loudly when he plays at OT.....remember his pathetic miscue against basel, when he handled the ball at bernabeau.... we must get rid of him....
Amika 15-07-2003, 02:26:PM is this true or not??? if they sign him then it is a very good deal... :junior:
No problem with me . . . But I surely won`t boo and bash him if he moves, he has done a great job and I do think he deserves more respect from some Man U fans  Once a red devil always a red devil boys, don`t forget that, geez some of you really need to learn to show appreciation to your former clubs players.
kashik 15-07-2003, 06:01:PM its like a bandwagon for success, throwing away the respect when his game wanders
 :nape:  which one will it be next match?
Bobby 16-07-2003, 09:27:PM I just wound you lot up, pretty good too
Thanks to the 2 that helped.
antithesis 16-07-2003, 09:33:PM but guess what Ljungberg?
There are newspapers reporting this offer to Arsenal, and The Guardian even reports on a rumour/leak that Sir Alex offered Barthez and cash for Vieria.
ogsimon 16-07-2003, 09:54:PM Arsenal should not give any money to the mancs
Bobby 16-07-2003, 09:55:PM I'd make Ferguson put a bullet in van Nistelrooy, thats the only way i'd sell Paddy to him...
Chelsea2001 17-07-2003, 02:55:AM haha, Barthez is poor, wot a Sh!t signing this would be
Bobby 17-07-2003, 06:11:AM hey, Jobs for the boys
Larry 17-07-2003, 06:45:AM whats your source?
::Jason:: 17-07-2003, 08:21:AM MU fans have gotten sick of him, that seems to be the main reason for him to leave. and Arse Wenger buys a frenchman over some other anytime.. If he continues like this, Arsenal will soon be a copy of the french national team. But should I care since I support ManU..
but if we sell Barthez, how should we replace the bastard? :crazyboy:
It won“t work by buying sum more East African dribble kings..
