They used to be a rap/rock/reggae band, but they recently dropped the rap, and are all about melodies now.

Theirs a heavy Beatles influence in this particular album.

Jambo, make sure you listen to the lyrics in between the chorus. Nick Hexum (singer) is a very under-rated song writer.

IBHA is a great reggae influenced song. One of my favorites.

<hysterical voice>Stop the 311 propoganda! It's just a marketing tool by capitalist pigs who want your dirty dollar! Don't give in. Long live socialism!</hysterical voice>

SA Martinez has a few rapping parts, but the whole album is very mellow overall.

When i get a new CD, i will play it while im doing something. That may be playing video games or the some other, but i dont really pay attention to the record. I just listen to the Melody i guess. Later when i Listen Listen to it, i will sit down and LISTEN to it. Thats the best i can explain it.

In other news, check out Boysetsfire. I just bought their CD today and enjoy a few of their songs. MVP Baseball 2003 quite possibly has the best game soundtrack ever. I've found Revis, All American Rejects, Boysetsfire and bought their CDs, plus had (Sum 41) and am looking around for Sister Surround and socialburn.

But I'm listening to 311 now. First time ever...:$

Why are you embarrased?

311 has been around since 1989. All you have to do is listen to their music and you'll see how talented they are. I'd be happy to recommend some songs if you want me to.

Go for it.

I just realized that Boy Sets Fire is really politically motivated, actually all their songs are about how American is going to crap. Still good songs though.

"Now you've thrown your past agreements into the fire
And your government's become a whore
For outside interests that now enslave the poor.
Their suffering now stands ignored, pushed out - spat on."

"The constitution burns to ash in front of you, the people know what you are up to.
Your sins will come back on you."

Good songs regardless.

They did it.

Every song is a work of art. Every song is different. And out of all the 311 albums, this holds true for Evolver only. What makes this album so special to me, is the emotion of each track. They all send out a different vibe, and this is very rare. There arent many albums like this out there. The one cd that comes to mind is Weezer-Blue, because each song is special, and any song could of been released as a single. Same with Evolver. The one thing that people might have a gripe with, and I as well, is the (i hate this word) "pop" factor. The better term is melody. 311 knows how to lay down an awesome melody.

A+, 5/5 , two thumbs up, whatever, good ****ing job 311.

Less than Jake's The Anthem. I only enjoyed a few select songs off their other albums before May's The Anthem release. Now I realize every song is great and each has it's own way, and there are hidden stories behind all of their songs.

311's early stuff is all rap/rock. You would like their album "Grassroots" or "Music".
