View Full Version : Do you bet Liverpool will win the Premiership champion?
Soccer Fans 14-02-2000, 05:31:PM Liverpool has defeated Leeds and Arsenal in the absence of Fowler, Owen and Redknapp. They have the best defense in England- Goalkeeper Westerveld, defender Hyypia and Henchoz. If Owen and Fowler are back, they are capable to get their first premiership champion. Do you agree?
Fat Bhoy Tim 14-02-2000, 05:46:PM Not sure for this season but next season if they get a good start they good easily win.
DirkDiggler 14-02-2000, 07:11:PM If Liverpool win it this season you can't put money on them to win it next seasom http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif The odds wouldn't be in your favor. However, Newcastle will not be favored to win it next year so the odds will be good (bad depending on how you look at it http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif )
Drinky UKSN 14-02-2000, 07:44:PM Liverpool are being quoted at a highly generous 10-1 for the title next season at the local bookies here in Cheltenham - grab those odds if you find them near you.
DirkDiggler 14-02-2000, 07:46:PM What are Newcastle at?
DirkDiggler 15-02-2000, 06:48:AM Before this season started my cousin asked who he should bet on to win the EPL. I told him to bet on Liverpool. I think he bet 20 quid so he should make a fair amount if they do win (some of which I will have to take for my finder's fee)
Next season I'm telling him to bet on Newcastle.
Drinky UKSN 15-02-2000, 06:52:AM They've got a better chance this season than they've had since Dalglish left. They've got the squad, the youth, and more importantly, they've got players still to return from injury, who'll be fresh for the run-in.
I'll be putting money on Liverpool to take the title next season though, with the extra players and experience that they'll have.
GOONERBHOY 15-02-2000, 09:16:AM I reckon Liverpool will win this season never mind next season.
This season first 5:
1] Liverpool
2] Arsenal
3] Man Utd
4] Leeds
5] Sunderland
Becks7 15-02-2000, 04:01:PM arsenal 2nd?!?! I don't think so!
Sella 15-02-2000, 09:18:PM I think it's funny how everybody is talking about the "experience" Liverpool is going to have next season, like Liverpool's a new club that just entered the Premier League or something.... http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif
Neutral 16-02-2000, 04:26:AM Sella, the 'experience' that ppl are refering to is the premier league experience gained by youngsters such as Gerrard, Thompson, Carragher, Murphy and Matteo, not to mention players new to the premier league - Hyypia (best buy of the season IMO), Camara, Smicer and Westerveld.
AJAX supporter 16-02-2000, 04:47:AM Man Utd will win this season I think.
Who knows who will finish 2nd, could be Leeds, Chelsea, Sunderland, probably not Arsenal or Liverpool though.
Next season Liverpool could win it, I think they'll battle it out with Man Utd.
Not sure if Arsenal will be such a strong team again next season, unless they buy some good defenders, a new keeper, and not sell Bergkamp and Overmars. And Van Nistelrooij would be nice, but Henry has improved, so not sure if Van Nistelrooij is really needed.
Iceberg24k 16-02-2000, 05:21:AM Man Utd. is gonna win this year, next year, and the year after that. Only way this team can lose is if they create a Super League and have the best teams in the world play each other for a full season, but still United would win.
PolishPower 16-02-2000, 06:36:AM I think Sunderland will not finish the season with a spot in Europe(top 5), I would bet a large sum of money on that.
Also, if Liverpool is at 10-1, that is a damn good risk for potential return to put a small wager down. This goes for this season or next.
Battiston 16-02-2000, 08:02:AM I'd like to see Liverpool win the premiership. The only thing I hate at Liverpool is Gerard Houiller.
He was the French coach for the WC94 qualifier and France didn't make it because they lost their last two home games against Israel and Bulgaria and Houiller blamed Ginola for the loss against Bulgaria. This is so unprofessional!!! That is why Ginola left France and never got back to the French National team.
Drinky UKSN 16-02-2000, 05:28:PM OK, I've backed Liverpool at 10-1 to take the title next season. My £25 stake will bring £275 if they win - now go 'Pool ;-)
If you can find them at that price, I'd put a bit on them, because I'm reliably informed that Liverpool have up to £15m to spend on a striker to back up Owen and Fowler when they're injured. Plus, if you back them each way, you'll win quite a bit even if they finish 2nd, which is a distinct possibility.
leeds deserve it more than any other team, although u can't win with children ;pp
