If you mean best as in favourite, I would find it hard to choose.

Probably Quentin Tarantino (I am a massive fan of the films he directs but he is a great actor aswell), Robert DeNiro or Harvey Keitel.

Daniel Day Lewis is in my opinion the best actor alive today....I have yet to see him in a bad movie. He was Brilliant in "In the Name of the Father", "Gangs of New York", & "Last of the Mohicans".....not to mention other things from his earlier days.

He doesn't get the media attention that the De Niro's and Tom Hank's get, but his performances are genius. I only wish he hadn't turned down the role of Aragorn in LOTR! :(

Don't think I have a fave actor... It kind of depends on their choices, doesn't it? Hmm, probably Ed Norton (usually great choices) and De Niro (been making some akward choices lately, though, but still one of the greats). I also like Depp's cool parts, and from the 14yo girls' posters contingent I'd pick Pitt.

I knew I was forgetting someone: Johnny Depp has fantastic career choices, avoiding the big blockbusters (even 'Pirates of the Caribbean' was a sort of a risky move, after all it was a dead genre) and always keeping himself in that coolness level. And he's a brilliant actor.

Sir Calumn
21-07-2005, 10:27:PM
You're very right there, he could so easily be one of those 'pretty-boy' actors who have talent but dont bother to use it, prefering to cash in on looking good in big blockbusters, but Depp has major integrety and really takes on roles which both challenge his abilities and dont necessarily help his image. He lights up every film he is in and always performs amazingly.

How the hell does nobody mention Jack Nicholson?

His performance in Cuckoo's Nest beats every actor in this thread.

Sir Calumn
21-07-2005, 11:50:PM
Cos he is so good it doesnt need to be said. I dont know if he's my favourite but I would definately say he is the most talented actor who ever lived. Cuckoo's nest is his definative performance, but his cameo in Easy Rider is even better, amazingly good, and his is awesome in Five Easy Pieces, Chinatown, The Shining and so many more. Not a big fan of his more recent work though, never saw Terms of Endearment but though he was a bit off-form in About Schmidt and that some of his really recent stuff was downright poor.

I agree. That movie was just insane. Simple, but brilliant. To this day it is one of my all time favourites, and to think it was made around the time when most films were still like Singing in the Rain or The Sound of Music - I just cant imagine how revolutionary it must have been. Nicholson's cameo really makes it for me though.

If the sun refused to shine
I don’t mind, I don’t mind
(yeah)
If the mountains ah, fell in the sea
Let it be, it ain’t me.
(well, all right)

Got my own world to live through and uh, ha !
And I ain’t gonna copy you.

Yeah (sing the song brother...)
Now if uh, six uh, huh, turned out to be nine
Oh I don’t mind, I don’t mind uh ( well all right... )
If all the hippies cut off all their hair
Oh I don’t care, oh I don’t care.
Dig.

’cause I’ve got my own world to live through and uh, huh
And I ain’t gonna copy you.

White collar conservative flashin’ down the street
Pointin’ their plastic finger at me, ha !
They’re hopin’ soon my kind will drop and die but uh
I’m gonna wave my freak flag high, high !
Oww !

Wave on, wave on...

Ah, ha, ha
Fall mountains, just don’t fall on me
Go ahead on mister business man, you can’t dress like me
Yeah !

Don’t nobody know what I’m talkin’ about
I’ve got my own life to live
I’m the one that’s gonna die when it’s time for me to die
So let me live my life the way I want to
Yeah, sing on brother, play on drummer

btw, is John Goodman still with us?
