Yea, there is alot of money involved if you qualify.

Bobby will probably spend something like £30m in January on aload of players, Newcastle are a pretty rich club too.

Arsenal fans are probably lousy pundits..... if man u win they say its luck..... yeah we were lucky to beat arsenal at OT 2-0 and were lucky that arsenal cannot keep the lead at Highbury.... i wanna see Arsenols losing to a MEndieta-inspired and Juninho-inspired boro...

United are 6/5 to win, I think the score will be 3-1 or 3-2.

Fernandez
22-08-2003, 05:46:PM
Djemba x2 really had a great game, he looked as he had pace.... first preview....

The upcoming match of Newcastle United versus Manchester United have never been short of goals. Newcastle were deservedly hammered 6-2 by the Champions in which the former had taken the lead through NU no.7 Jermain Jenas. That match also saw Robert limping off which was a major factor in the defeat. Manchester United equalised when Solskjaer received a pass from Giggs that had broken the offside trap. The former then placed the ball into the net. That was followed by Scholes double, Giggs right-footed goal and final Scholes goal. A Ruud penalty also ensured the scoreline was flattering at 6-1. However, bad boy Barthez could not clear a ball which landed to Ameobi who finished off the scoring at 6-2 in the favour of the Red Devils. Newcastle United are favourites to lose the match in which has a great value to it.

While I certainly think that United have the ability to beat Newcastle, it is important to keep in mind that we do not have the best record at St. James's Park. With so much attacking talent on both sides, it's hard to see this match not having a decent amount of goals scored. Newcastle are a great threat going forward but have shown defensive vulnerability all throughout last season and in the opening game against Leeds(read Olivier Bernard's backpass). That might be where the game is won for United, as we have a better defence than Newcastle. Ferguson does have a selection dilemma on his hands - should he play Nicky Butt or Eric Djemba-Djemba alongside Roy Keane? Personally I would go with Djemba-Djemba. The new signing has been the livelier of the two players and had the better game against Bolton. My pick for the starting lineup:

----------------------------Howard-------------------------------

-------------------Ferdinand-----Silvestre--------------
P.Neville----------------------------------------------------O'Shea

------------------------Keane-----------Djemba-Djemba-------------

---------Solskjaer--------------------------------------------------Giggs

---------------------------------Scholes--------------------------------

---------------------------------------------van Nistelrooy-----------------

Subs:
GK - Carroll(I would have picked Barthez, but I don't think he's
in the squad)
DF - G. Neville
MF - Kleberson
FW - Ronaldo
ST - Forlan

Fernandez
23-08-2003, 04:28:AM
preview number 2...

Manchester United have started the season with a superb 4-0 win against Bolton. Two of the scorers, namely Scholes and Van Nistelrooy, have scored hat-tricks against Newcastle last season. They also managed to score a goal each in the last campaign. In the corresponding fixture at St. James Park last season, Giggs also scored. He also scored 2 goals in the match against Bolton and will be looking for goal number 3 of the season. Butt could be sidelined with either Ronaldo, Djemba-Djemba or Kleberson who is likely to debut will be given a place. Newcastle have Woodgate and Welsh flyer Bellamy out. That is a big blow for the Toon Army, who has conceded 11 goals against the Red Devils last season.

As much as I'd love to see ManYoo plc get royally shafted, it ain't gonna happen. :(

I think there are a lot of goals in this one, just like the last two games. ManYoo plc in the 6-2 game had a spell where they produced a masterclass in the Ferguson ethos of football, but that will be extremely hard to replicate, particularly against Sir Bobby Robson who is every bit as an astute manager as Purpleface :mrpimp:

Prediction:

Newcastle Utd 2-3 ManYoo plc
(Shearer x2, one likely a pen)
(Scholes, RvN and a Solksjaer goal from the subs bench (H))

Now, away to the bookies :)

English champions Manchester United have managed to streamline their goalkeeper department by sending Ricardo on a one-year loan to Spanish side Racing Santander.
The Portuguese international keeper did not hesitate to agree to the deal as he had fallen to fourth choice at Old Trafford following the arrival of American shot-stopper Tim Howard.
Under the agreement Santander will take care of three-quarters of Ricardo's salary, while United will swallow the remaining 25 percent.

Most likely, they are all fit, so Keane won't be playing in the back. Nothing confirmed till 11:30(BST) when Sky Sports get word of the lineups, then 12:00(BST) kickoff.

I'll probably change me avatar again after this match :o, I'd love to see another Paul Scholes volley, like in the last meeting, that was the greatest 1-2 goals I had ever seen, (Scholes pass to Solskjaer, makes the run whilst Solskjaer chips it up on the outside of his foot, Scholes on the volley). just ****ing fantastic.

They are coming out the tunnel now.

Hughes un-deliberately hand balled in the box, should've been a penalty, why did they give Newcastle a freekick(which set up the goal) for Scholes un-deliberately handballing? BS.

GLORY GLORY MAN UNIIIIITED!!!!!

Where are you now, the manu hater menace? Have you clearly witnessed the superiority of this majestic club? What will be your excuse now? That the referee was on man utd's side?.. because that was damn well the opposite. Pure talent. Keane had a flyer, winning tackles, playing balls to the forwards. I've never seen Keane so attacking before, then there was Djemba Djemba, whos growing on me and surely all the Man Utd suppporters with his strong tackling, and almost perfect passes, he seemed to have taught Van Nistelrooj a few dance moves as well. All in all, superb game. Newcastle were almost impossible to break down in the first half but they couldn't last and were broken down. Kudos to Howard was well who judges very well when to come off the line.

here's my thoughts

The 1st half was a true contest that ManU edged. However Newcastle created some good chances, Bramble was looking the part at last and we actually went in a the break 1-0 up.

The second half was shambolic We were fast asleep.
Bramble made several mistakes in his placement that cost the 1st goal and could have cost more

Dyer was inexistant. Hardly touched the ball.
Speed wasreally in it either
And Shola showed no signs of the promise from preseason, slow and silly.

+ Rennie is an idiot. But his decision penalised both teams so it didnt affect much. that foul on Giggs was a disgrace but oBrien got away with it lol

we missed Woodgate and Bellamy badly I think cos with Shearer and Ameobi it was too much of the same up front.

ROBERT was elsewhere as well.

the only players who played well I feel are Shearer and Hughes

ManUtd deserved the win but when your 1-0 up there's always hope that you can hold on especially after the good 1st half we put in

Nothing, Man Utd will get a tap on the wrist, meanwhile Highbury will be torched and shat on, the FA will laugh and we'll groundshare with Barnet and be relegated, meanwhile Sir Alex will have his penis so far up an FA man's ass that you will be able to see the head in the back of his mouth.

It was a typical battling United display, one which brought three points home despite one of the worst refereeing displays I've ever seen in one half.

How Uriah Rennie failed to spot the professional foul committed by Andrew O'Brien is beyond my comprehension.

Ferguson was sent off, perhaps rightly so, because he did use abusive language towards the fourth official. But was he right to be upset? I believe so. But still he should have controlled himself more, as he stated afterwards.

Shearer's goal came from a push on Silvestre, and the free kick in which it came from wasn't a free kick, because it was a 'handball' given against Scholes when it brushed his thigh.

Fortunately van Nistelrooy and Scholes rescued the three points for United, and in injury time Ferdinand blocked Chopra's shot. Justice has been done.

monkee
26-08-2003, 01:09:PM
I thought it was a solid United performance against Newcastle and a ref with a history of playing for the cameras a bit too much.

I think we gained a fully deserved 3 points in a game which Newcastle never looked good enough to win. A dubious goal scored by Shearer, which I, with admitted bias, thought came about from a shove on Silvestre (but it may have been a slip - or both, which is more likely 'cos Shearer's hardly the 'cleanest' of players), but a dodgy handball decision gave them the free-kick anyway. This coming a few moments after Ferguson was sent off for a justified rage on the poor refereeing which should have seen Newcastle reduced to 10 men, but didn't. A visit to specsavers may be on the weeks agenda for the linesman who gave Rennie, who was a fair distance behind play, no help

O'Brien's challenge was clumsy (he was almost a meter away from being anywhere near touching the ball) and in being the last defender, stopping a clear goal scoring opportunity he should have walked. Sir Bobby said so himself. It was much worse than that which got Sol sent off last weekend.

The rule the blind-men adhered to though is the strange foul-and-abusive language one on Ferguson. Is football a man's sport or a game for boy-scouts and school-kids? Extreme abusive language maybe, but not frustrated f-ing and blinding in the heat of the moment. Rules are rules though.

2nd half was Keano all the way. Providing for both goals and getting stuck in, and keeping his head. This is from the man who was finished a few months ago. :D Hehe. I was miffed when Ruud missed. I started thinking that it might not be United's day. But then he made no mistake with his next opportunity and United were on the up, as scoring another goal less than 10mins later proved.

Then United sat back a bit I felt. That's not the sort of thing to do. Newcastle were creating but weren't getting any opportunities at all with Man Utd's defense cleaning everything which passed the midfield up. Until the final moments when Shearer sent Chopra through and Rio recovered and made an important block. I think Howard had it covered but credit to Rio for not taking the chance and doing his job.

On to Wolves. They've been pasted by mid premiership teams in their opening games, probably the worst start any promoted team has had in the EPL. But it's United at Old Trafford. Every promoted team wants to prove themselves against us, or Arsenal, or Liverpool so they'll be up for it. If the United lads are up for it and focussed United should win, but this is the type of game that top teams sometimes lose focus in.
