Chicago Fire have acquired Costa Rica international Jonathan Bolaņos. The 25-year-old has 15 caps for Costa Rica and has previously played for Alajuelense and Saprissa (C. Rica) and La Piedad (Mexico).

The MetroStars will sign Polish striker Andrzej Juskowiak to replace the injured Jaime Moreno. The 32-year-old Juskowiak played for Energie Cottbus last season in the Bundesliga, before they were relegated.

And finally the Columbus Crew have traded Brian Dunseth so they could sign Northern Ireland international defender Mark Williams. Williams, also 32, has played at Wimbledon (Div 1) for the last three seasons.

That move by the Crew doesn't make sense to me. You have a solid American defender in his prime who's even been looked at by Bruce Arena and you give him away so you can sign a 32-year-old Division 1 player who'll probably take up more salary cap room and counts as a senior international.

I do like the Fire's signing though. Bolanos sounds like a quality player, even though we already have a lot of good midfielders.

Juskowiak is a really good player! I remember some of his great goals he scored during his time at Sporting. He was also top scorer at the Barcelona Olympics.

He'll be a great addition to MLS

Thanks for the info. I didn't know he played for Sporting before.

He's played in top quality leagues (Germany, Portugal, Greece) for the last 10 years now so he should be a good replacement for Moreno.

I don't get it either. First they waste a roster spot on Pineda Chacon and now they give away one of the best defenders, and players, we had. I really think this signing is gonna blow up in their face. Dammit, such a promising season down the tubes.

I think I've determined that the Crew front office thinks the only way to fix a problem, caused by injuries and call-ups, is to trade for older and "wiser" players. This isn't gonna fix it. We have enough talent to beat any team in the league, if they are all there, and they just traded one of the biggest pieces of that puzzle. I don't get it. If they were trading for a young promising player, I wouldn't mind, but they just traded on of those, for an over the hill player, who they only got because he has experience in England. So does Paul Gasgoine, but I didn't see anyone, other than crazy Ray Hudson, ever try to bring him to the States.

Could someone please tell me what :drevil: senior players :drevil: are and whether there is a limit etc. on them? Cheers, I haven't got a clue on MLS football. :crazyboy:

'Senior internationals' are players over age 25 who are not US citizens and do not hold a Green Card. The limit on those is 3 per team. There's also 'transitional internationals' which are non-US players under 25. I'm not sure what the limit is on them, but they are separate from SI's.

(Once a TI player reaches 25 he becomes a SI.)

Yeah the Pineda Chacon thing was stupid as well. The guy shouldn't even be in MLS. He should be in the A-League, and I'm not even sure he could score there.

I thought they would have realized there was a reason he couldn't get any playing time with the Galaxy. But, they were dumb, and signed him based on his fluke good season in MLS.

Yeah but cheer up, if you beat Dallas tonight you'll be in the playoff zone. I mean, there's still time until the playoffs and now Buddle has come back from injury - the Crew could pull off a strong run in their last 10 games of the regular season.

Well, they beat Dallas, so I can cheer up a bit. Hopefully Buddle and McBride can go nuts and score enough to win a few and keep us in the playoffs.
