$teauA 25-08-2003, 12:43:AM I have a couple of questions foru u:
1) Do you like the way that the MLS is structured now with the East and West and the playoff system or would you rather like a system like the EPL with all the teams in one conference and teams playing eachother twice a season and whoever is at the top of the table at the end wins?
2) Do you think that MLS jerseys should be more soccer like and withough the name of the team on the chest or do u like em the way they are?
3) How many teams are they adding to the MLS next year?
4) Why did they take tampa bay and miami out of the league?
5) Can u stand it when they hav soccer games on american football stadiums and the lines are drawn on and everyting? i hate that
:kader:
Sorry if u think they are overwhelming but ive always wondered these things.
Run DMB 25-08-2003, 12:56:AM 1) I don't mind it, I like the conference and playoff systems. Plus, if you just have teams play vs. each other team twice, there would be a total of 18 matches per team, which is not nearly enough.
2) I would like it better if the jerseys had the sponsor on the front instead of the the team name, but it's not a big deal IMO
3) none; they'll add two teams in 2005
4) because those teams were financial failures
5) Yeah, it's not pretty but you get used to it. In some cases it's not so bad such as in Naperville, but Dragon Stadium is the most disgusting thing I have ever seen. You also have to realise that the football lines on most stadiums are only painted on during the final 1/3 of the season.
Hopefully we wont have to worry about that in a few years when most of the teams in MLS will have soccer-specific stadiums.

god lets hope so, thats one of the major reasons that i dont enjoy it when im watching mls, that and the absence of a crowd

That's anoher thing soccer-specific stadiums will improve. It's much different seeing a 15,000 crowd on a giant 70,000-capacity stadium, and it looks and sounds completely different on a cozy 20,000-capacity stadium.

yes i kno they need to hurry up and build those soccer stadiums i cant wait.
Rochester Rhino 25-08-2003, 05:11:AM yeah the construction for a soccer specific stadium in Rochester begins in a couple of weeks. click the link in my sig for details
Punkt 25-08-2003, 05:32:AM i think MLS to became more interesting should have promotions and relegations to A-League.
:)
Voltaic Borusse 25-08-2003, 05:34:AM That what I was thinking, Punkt.
In all honesty, I think the WUSA is a lot more interesting then the MLS.
bjmenge 25-08-2003, 05:36:AM 1) The conference/playoff system is pretty American, so I'm used to it. As a soccer purist, I'd prefer the European system.
2) Definitely need to lose the goofy team logos on the shirts. I don't care if they put sponsors there or not, but no goofy team names. The Crew's used to be excellent, till they f*cked them up this year. Only a badge, and maybe a sponsor, belong on the front.
3) See Run's answer.
4) See Run's answer.
5) The only football field that really bothers me is Dragon Stadium. Just awful.

Wouldn't be feasible, because some A-League teams play in high school stadiums, that only seat 5,000 people.

Yeah, man. I watched earlier today. Very exciting performance by both teams. Wambach owns.

you and everyone else thinks that, unfortunately there are way too many complications and it couldn't be done for at least 10 years.

Yeah I thought Dragon stadium was pretty bad too, until last Friday's A-League game on FSW. The match was played on a baseball field on a surface which looked like carpet. All the bases were clearly visible as well.

How can you people actually prefer a sponsor on the front of the jerseys? I hate it on nascar drivers and i wouldnt like it on my MLS team. That crap has nothing to do with the game or the team, and all it does is put some companys name/logo on the shirt of my team. No Thanks. No matter how European it may be.
Seriously, why would you want HONDA written on the front of your Fire shirt instead of Fire?
I dont get it.
STML1 25-08-2003, 10:45:PM whats up with overtime in the mls? i though they had ties

yes that was my other question, MLS is not the freakin NBA or NFL or MLB theres no point for over time its a piece of crap y cant they just b the same like all the other leagues in the freakin world it makes me so madgr all these differences just keep it the same ppl.:kader: :kader: :kader:
1) The way it is now is fine with me. This is an American league so there is no need to imitate European leagues.
2) Again, the way it is now is fine. If there is no need to put a sponsor there, then why do it? I root for the MetroStars, not Pepsi or something like that. European teams haven't always been like that anyway. I'm pretty sure its a new thing relative to the history of professional soccer.
5) I can stand it but I don't like it. There is no alternative right now, stadiums don't just appear out of thin air.
RE: the overtime/tie situation
This is a mix of American and European sport. All American sports have overtimes if regulation ends in a tie. If the designated overtimes end, then it is considered a tie in some of the sports. Only in MLS they get points for the draw, where as they don't in some others. I'd rather they play till there is a winner or just have a draw in the regular season. But it could be worse.
All in all this is an American league and each league around the world should do its own thing. We are not part of UEFA so we shouldn't conform to their styles. There is no "proper" way for a soccer league to be run... every league in existence has been overhauled at some point in time. Just because it is different doesn't make it inferior.

And if you dont know now you know!
bjmenge 26-08-2003, 07:29:AM I think the MLS shirts should actually be sponsor-less, like Barcelona's.
Classic.
