London Hit by Power Cuts
Thu August 28, 2003 02:21 PM ET
LONDON (Reuters) - Power cuts hit transport services across London on Thursday, causing travel chaos for thousands who had to abandon trains and take to the streets.
Street lights went out in scenes reminiscent of the blackout that hit North America earlier this month.

A British Transport Police spokesman said some of London's mainline stations were closed.

"Waterloo, Victoria, Charing Cross, London Bridge are all closed because there are no trains and no power."

"There are trains trapped in Underground tunnels. But we have police at most locations."

No injuries have been reported so far. "It's obviously a wider problem than a local power problem."

A spokesman for the London underground railway system told Reuters: "It appears to be affecting the majority of the London underground.

"Trains in stations are being evacuated. We're trying to get alternative power sources started," he added. He said a majority of the network was affected and blamed a National Grid power failure.

But a spokesman for London Energy, which supplies the British capital, said: "We have no information about this at the moment."

Earlier this month, one of the largest power outages in North American history blacked out New York and other major U.S. and Canadian cities overnight, disrupting life for millions of people and trapping thousands in lifts and on crowded subways.

There's a lot of things i hate more than the blackout and Bob Saget standup is one of them. The difference between here (canada) and Iraq, is was only a few days here. It's a dangerous Iraq out there; Saddam, Bombimg, Killing, no electricity, deadly chemicals and Apes.

I demand to know about the Apes in Baghdad! Has the UN been informed? Are they armed? Do they have links to Al Queda? 9/11? Are they hiding Saddam? Are they removing WMD from Iraq as we speak? Are they a distraction, planted by the CIA? Are they sabotaging the oil pipelines? Does Rupert Murdoch know anything about these Apes? Is there a new twist about to be seen, are the APES PLANNING A TAKEOVER?!? Are we about to become the Planet of the Apes? Does life mimic art? Or B-grade movies? Has the War on Terror inadvertantly opened a new front? Has evolutionary science found a new subject matter? Are they civilised? Are they terrorists? Are they gorillas, chimpanzees, or orangutans? Have they been 'sexed up'? Or is the claim based on false evidence? Did Bush deliberately leave them out of his State of the Union address? Are they the REAL reason the US invaded Iraq? Are there any confimed sightings in Afghanistan? Does Bush look suspiciously like an Ape to anyone else? Is this the unravelling of the REAL conspiracy?

Most importantly, WHOSE SIDE ARE THE APES ON???

You should mostly thank Ohio, the 11th province of canada. It all hapend cuz of terrists and the worst of their kind, Apes from Iraq (country) sent to kill Pres. Bush (moron). These Apes weren't your ordinairy Ape, they were Apes that spoke english like brit (people) and Mongolian like an Austrian (???). Instead of these apes killing Bush, they went cuckoo and killed 80 employees at a powerplant. Since nobody was alive, all the powerplants supply of energy had vanished. Aww screw this, I'm out of here.
