View Full Version : Changing from Fifa to PES on the PC
Punizhur 30-08-2003, 11:20:PM After hearing all the problems about fifa 2004 I thought to myself, why not buy this PES3 I've been hearing about so much.. Can you guys give me some differences between PES series and the FIFA series (good and bad).. or some URL's would be nice :)
Oh and when is PES3 being released.. december? (on the pc)
ps. should this go in the help forum or something?
gameplay:
on fifa you can go easily right throught opponent`s deffense and score a goal, on we7/pes3 you have to find the way to broke their deffense and score;)
cinematics:
on fifa is always the same, a nice panoramic view of the stadium, players going to the pitch, and the beginning of the game, on we7/pes3 you will see how players prepare to go out the field, but first flags of the 2 countries appear, then the teams received by a fantastic crowd, very realistic;)
player attributes:
on fifa what they always improve is their faces, their kits, etc..., on we7/pes improves their kicking way,(eg: Beckham use to throw free kicks as he does on reality), their physical aptitudes, and all the little details that makes you think about the best football game ;)
and many more points...
videos: www.soccered.com
release date: i think about december, dont really know
sorry about my english and i hope this helped you:)
charles 31-08-2003, 06:11:AM there are so many benefits... just for example:
You'll have to adjust your style of play to the team you're facing. In FIFA, all teams play the same style with the same AI but in WE / PES they don't. You'll have a hard time taking the ball off of a Spanish team, for instance, while the English teams are much more direct and speed-oriented.
The control of players is superior once you get used to it and you can really feel the difference between a quality player and a second-stringer in the way they receive the ball and react to your commands. You won't have the long-time FIFA problem of struggling to control your player because he's in the middle of an animation, but at the same time they won't make impossible moves and you'll have to learn each player's capabilities.
It will be a tough transition but it's so worth it.
Ian84 31-08-2003, 07:28:AM pes3 or we7(the one im playing) is football game
fifa tends to hockey game
:crazyboy:
theredface 31-08-2003, 07:48:AM I've never played PES even once in my life, but have followed FiFA series from 96 till 03. And the thing is from a big fan of EA Sport's FIFA series game, I've become so sicked of this game. Frankly, it does improved on graphic on every new series; but in terms of gameplay......nah, they never seem to get it right. The more I play the most recent release FIFA 2003, the more I doubt the football knowledge of the designing team.....perhaps they are americans, lack of passion about football (or soccer they call)......if you play FIFA 2002, you should've found out that they can't even get it right on the fixture, where you might play your group opponent in the 1st knockout stage in the Champions League.
Well, I am giving up on FIFA, this's for sure. Whether getting into PES, that depends on my financial status then....need money to buy PS2 unless it will be released on GC..:D Hail Konami, who doesn't call football "soccer"!!
flamehawk 31-08-2003, 08:10:AM Actually, itz the Canadian team in Charge of FIFA, so that explains the Hockey, they also develop NHL series. Disgrace to Canada :kader: and I am Canadian

Dude, few points:
(1) Konami call the European version of their Winning Eleven series "Pro Evolution Soccer".
(2) Americans on the whole on these boards hate FIFA 2003. You'll find most of the FIFA fans tend to be European. It doesn't matter what country you're from, you either recognise a good football/soccer game or not. Many of the people on these boards, including myself, are American and I can assure you I like Winning Eleven because it's closer to the real game. FIFA isn't representative of any variation of the beautiful game played anywhere in the world.
(3) Don't come on here with an anti-American bias. There's enough of that on the FIFA boards. It will gain you enemies straight away.
kochman 31-08-2003, 09:21:AM i live in the US too, and I prefer WE7...it is just better, and now that they've added the transfer option, in addition to adding the team strategy editor....the game is just so much better than EA's offering...
1st) Gameplay kick asses!!!
2nd i saw some diting from pes3 and i love it! U can add sun glasess masks and many more things.
I prefer pes 3 graphics than fifa 03 but the only thing i don't like is that Konami doesn't buy liscenes.
Does we 7 have the option with the 1 player role??? If yes is it good?
i tell you the difference:
WE series are footballgames
FIFA series are tech demos with 5% playability.
in FIFA the goals are ALWAYS the same, after 10 goals you dont get happy any more when scoring ..
but in WE the goals are always different you fight for scoring a goal and if you score this makes you really "happy"...
and so in FIFA it is possible also for newbies to score 10 goals in 5 minutes .. even in worldclass -mode ... thats not realistic.. thats not football!!!
buy WE and forget FIFA until EA makes his homeworks.. .
nickclubman 31-08-2003, 01:57:PM PES is more realistic then FIFA. And I'm a FIFA player, lol. :crazyboy:
I love PES, I just want to see EA make a good FIFA game, but now I can buy PES3 for PC and THAT IS WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT! :rockman:
I want FIFA 2004 if it's much better, so far though things aren't looking as good as expected, but isn't it always?
EA just can't hack it.
Punizhur 31-08-2003, 02:30:PM Just watched the 9 minute gameplay video from Soccered.com.. there's a lot of features i liked but one thing i didn't take kind to was the fact the play was broken up every 5-10 seconds.. i suppose I could get around this by just keeping the ball and whatever..
question: Can you curl the ball?
Punzz, I don't know what movie that is. I hope you did not download the ISS3 movies, because ISS3 is far inferior to PES3/WE7.
I also don't exactly know what you mean by "the fact the play was broken up every 5-10 seconds"; Maybe ball out of play?
Your question: Yes, you can curll the ball :)
Maybe you can give the URL from that movie? Then it is easier to get into this subject....
I don't worry for nothing. Konami knows to create a real game.
Also the difference with few words is that PES is a real football and Fifa is not only like hockey but it's ****ty hockey. And ea always lies! They said on fifa 2003 they will re-write the whole gameplay then the 60 % then they made fifa 2003 which looks like tweaked world cup.
Punizhur 31-08-2003, 05:25:PM http://soccered.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=998
download that, password is Soccered to extract the file
the 2nd movie on soccered is a lot better than the first
valioso 31-08-2003, 05:55:PM I downloaded 2 pes3 movies from ects from gamespot.. if anyone has a site to where I can upload them.. I can do that
sharkman 31-08-2003, 06:19:PM how big are the files.
and witch teams are playing
valioso 31-08-2003, 06:51:PM england vs brazil around 10mb each
Tom Green 01-09-2003, 01:49:AM There is absolutely no comparison, PES/WE owns fifa in every aspect known to man.
theCRO 01-09-2003, 04:38:AM you tell 'em the Wolf !! seems like every little while someone brings up the american argument. Despite America not giving two hoots about soccer as a whole, there are a number of people there who do enjoy it just as much as us ....
Punizhur 01-09-2003, 06:11:PM I can't see why us (british) don't make a decent footy game.. is Club Football a british made game?

It is strange actually. I would have expected some software company in the UK to have been the leader in soccer games to be honest. In the mid-90's there were a bunch of good British soccer titles but then there just seemed to be no more. Kick Off 2002 cam out last year but that was pretty bad really, not much progress over the original versions (but great for flashbacks!).
For all the American bashing, nobody but the Japanese seem to have their finger on the pulse and we all know what a historically great soccer nation they are!!! It seems that history of, and national success in theg ame means nothing otherwise we'd be looking to Brazil for all the great soccer games or France and Germany with the odd great soccer game produced by Argentina!!!
Oh well, I don't care as long as somebody makes something we can all play together. It ain't gonna be freaking FIFA though. The latest movies of FIFA show the defense and forwards running around like headless chickens facing the wrong way, marking the wrong side of players and generally never using the outsides of the field. It may be a pre-Alpha but what hope there is to derive from what's been seen so far (other than having a ton of leagues) is beyond me!
PES3 on the PC will hopefully kill off the lame FIFA series.

what a complete load of rubbish that is. The WE/Pro Evo games are far better to play than fifa and also play miles more realistically, but for presentation you cannot beat fifa and its something konami should do to make what would then be a perfect football game.
bananadude1 01-09-2003, 10:17:PM Yeah, i agree with that. If you combined the glitz, presentation and marketing of FIFA with the pure genius gameplay of PES, you'd have the ULTIMATE footie game that would sell by the bucketload!
Ian84 03-09-2003, 08:40:AM everybody shut up!!!! juz play your we7 ...:mrpimp:

Actually, the PES series outsells FIFA now in Europe.
hmm, i dont think i can believe that, as it tops the charts on xbox, gamecube, ps2, pc, gameboy....
borat 08-09-2003, 04:48:AM just so whoever hasnt played the recent ISS3 for PC, try not to get too excited about PES3, at least until a demo is released.
i stupidly got all worked up about the annouced release of ISS3 for PC. i was finally gonna be able to play some quality footy at home and not at my japanese friend's house ..... also i had heard nothing but rave reviews about the series and its PES and WE sisters. also, it was perfect timing cause i had gotten tired of the gameplay flaws in FIFA, the only other major soccer series on PC. try as i might, i just couldnt get over all the AI retardedness, as well as all the other things that were wrong with it...well, i couldnt have been more disappointed....
now i know the crap about iss3 has been gone over many times, so heres a short list:
- only resolution: 640x480 (hello! its not 1998 anymore!)
- only about 8 of the keys on the keyboard can be used for player actions (but you can configure those 8 keys any way you like!)
- only the cursor keys (not the numpad) can be used for directing players
- for some reason, z and x are used to navigate the menus.... z and x.....it took me 5 minutes to get past the first prompt in the game...
theres way more but i deleted the game before i had a chance to experience much of this filth
this game is so bad, not only is it the worst console port ever, its the most dated 'new' game ive ever seen, and has ripped the hearts out of pc football fans across the globe. i was so angry that i had wasted 2 perfectly good cdrs on that crap. i can only imagine the anguish of those who actually shelled out money for the game, expecting konami's usual football brilliance.
anyway, the point is, lets all wait until at least a demo is out before we get out of contol with this. i know iss3 is not representative of konami's usual work, and the fact that this title is fast on the heals of iss3 might suggest that theyre trying to fix what they have butchered. but you never know, just like we didnt know with iss3....
later
The Drovers Dog 08-09-2003, 07:44:AM Does we 7 have the option with the 1 player role??? If yes is it good?
Yes it does have that option, and yes it is good, it allows you to play any single free specific role on the pitch and adds a new and welcome dimension to the game..
And although you don't have 100% cantact with the ball as in full team control, you have to think like a single player when out there on the pitch, move at the right time, show yourself for support play etc etc, and when you do get the ball at your feet you can't afford to make any silly mistakes, like unloading stray passes or getting tackled and giving away posession etc etc. -- :hump:
.................................................. ..............
that must be fun. But for example can is elect nedved my friend del piero etc. ??
Salero 08-09-2003, 04:20:PM hmm.. Anyone know if the one-player option will be in pes?
MasterM 08-09-2003, 06:16:PM I definately gonna DOWNLOAD fifa2004 and BUY pes3:hump:

ISS is released under the name KONAMI. But a game developed by a totally different team unerd KONAMI.
I don't know how many times, this has been mentioned but, here it goes again..
ISS made by KCEO.
WE/PES madr by KCET.
Same company, different programing team. Don't be too worried about PES/WE ending up like ISS3. Maybe the console to PC conversion may not be smooth, but the actual game play won't change.
It's gonna pc like a pc game believe me!
Cozmo 09-09-2003, 12:37:AM heh good thing you guys stopped visiting the fifa forums, i remember 1-2 years ago it was unbearable, anyways it's always nice to see how protective you are of your game but the thing that always strikes me the most is that you're not willing to give any credit whatsoever to fifa. I mean one thing is to have a personal preference another thing is to be totally unreasonable and unrealistic about your view of fifa....It's like you guys are developing some kinda unified hatred of a game which is not half as bad as you make it up to be (fact is, many more people play the fifa series, which doesn't mean it's neccessarily better...however dont go saying they don't know nothing about the sport cos that's bang out of order, or you think you're the only ones who have a deeper understanding? i think that's the case and it only makes you seem like some kinda cult)
so anyway, just wanted to get this off my chest with the hope that your slanting of fifa will get a bit more realistic or may even cease one day and just let me add that on a fifa forum you'd never see ISS,etc being discussed or dissed cos people there have better things to do...
(of course i know ya'll will prolly not reply and try to ignore the argument, thus proving my point even further as you obviously wouldn't have a reasonable answer :rockman: )
Arraso 09-09-2003, 01:12:AM PES3/WE7 use Renderware engine. That is the same engine used by GTA3/VC and THPS 1/2/3/4.
ALL that games have excellents conversions for PC...
and my english is suck
valioso 09-09-2003, 02:21:AM i will be getting it, as long as they do a better job than the iss port.. and not iss wasnt ported by konami to pc.. and neither will be winning eleven.... I hope they will add online play on the near future..
bananadude1 09-09-2003, 02:43:AM In theory, yes, PES3 should run just fine by using the Renderware engine on the PC - but let us not forget the original GTA on the PC, and how much of a pain that was. The lessons were learnt by Rockstar for GTA-VC, but this will be Konami's first port on to the PC using this engine - so it still has the potential to go tits up...!

Arraso 09-09-2003, 08:37:AM Renderware is an "universal" engine. The games can be programmed in all of the systems - PC, GC, Xbox, PS2 -, or in just one (or 2, 3...).
Conversions are made in an easy way, since the code language is practically the same when a game is passed for another system.
And my english continues suck.
I could play vicey city on my 415 p2 ge force 2 mx 400 64 mb and 512 mb ram. On 1024x768 res
and all options on expect wide screen i think.

I'm sure I've read that they have dropped renderware for WE7/PES3 and are using an in house engine instead...hopefully its been written with platform conversion in mind.

OK, I can see you're trying to start an argument but there's not much of an argument here to reply to...
Credit for FIFA - you can take some pretty screenshots, Depth of leagues(face value anyway) and...nope think Ive covered it all.
I like football, I compare WE/PES and FIFA to football. To me WE/PES recreates the game far more realistically than FIFA does. End of Story.
Ok there's a few rabid fanboys (you know the ones who post flamebait completely unrelated to the topic...) but most of us want the best game of football available, to play when we have some time to spare.
Anyway, Thanks for stoppin by...

That's good to hear after playing ISS3 on the pc. Man that game was a bad conversion
Punizhur 09-09-2003, 01:42:PM Not trying to change the subject at all but does anyone know where i can get a cheap copy of PES2 for my friend.. he isn't convinced yet.. he's more interested in TIF2003/4 (which is a very good series).. 30 pound for a game thats nearly a year old is still pretty expensive.. If you have any sites please make sure they are American or british ones only please
update: nm i found some sites with the Platinum version (released in 17 days) with some decent cheap prices
