'O Globo', Brazilian newspaper, asserted on Tuesday that Juventus is going to sign a new defender: Athirson Mazolli de Oliveira, 23 years old left side from Flamengo. According what reported on the paper there are just few details to agree before to confirm the purchase as official, thing which should be announced to the press in next days. Juventus should pay Flamengo 20 USD million.

Athirson is one of the most promising player in Brazil and voices say that he should replace Roberto Carlos as left side in the Seleçao within a year. Actually he plays for the Olympic team, and with it he will take part at Sydney 2000 Olympics Games.

The chairman of Flamengo Edmundo Santos Silva denied this negotiation and said that Athirson isn't for sale. But the general manager of the Brazilian club, Renè Simoes, fixed a meeting with the player and his agent to see if there are some chances to keep the player. The same Flamengo could have an advantage to sell the player nowadays since next year, for the 'Pelè Law', Athirson will be able to leave the club and Flamengo won't have the right to receive any indemnity
