I think he is right to quit. He's 29. Most players aren't in top form anymore at that age. Becides, England have some good strikers, Owen,Heskey, and Cole. It's very nice that Shearer is giving them a chance too by quiting after euro 2000.

Shearer has produced a no lose situation by announcing his retirement. If he performs in EURO 2000 then he will retire one of England's great strikers. If he has a poor tournament it saves him the indignity of being dropped by Keegan. Personally I rate Shearer and I am sad to see him retire. At least he will be able to focus his energies on Newcastle and hopeful restore former glory to the TOON.
I am encouraged to see Heskey at Liverpool though. It will be interesting to see a system that includes Fowler, Heskey and Owen in the same side. A possible future front line for England?

Shearers instincts have told him to retire from the International scene, it's time for him to move over and let the younger players have a go....He has been one of Englands best strikers during his International career, so let's all respect his descision to play his days out at Premier Club level...
