Can you post pictures of what you think is a beautiful kit. Not kits that everyone has seen (kits for teams like Man Utd, Real etc.) but more kind of a "hidden treasure". Hope you'll send some pictures...

Hey you got any pics of Icelandic teams, or even the Iceland national team's kit? It's been years since I've seen what any of them look like..

I am really happy with those asking for the Icelandic kit. It is nice and it makes me proud of being Icelandic. The only bad thing is that it is not made by icelandic producer. By the way, many of us think that our strip is the best one so from now on posting pics of your favourite team's shirt is banned unless it is not that famous.

There are some pictures of the kit over there

The Icelandic people are descendants from Vikings and they kept track of people by recognizing who was their father, as in "Helgi son of Ólafur the Brave, son of Leifur the Lucky" (not an actual example!). Thus was born the tradition of naming children after their father's first name.

So the way it works in Iceland is that boys are given first names and then their father's first name + "son" as a "surname". Girls on the other hand are given first names and then their father's first name + "dóttir" (as in "daughter") as a "surname".

Let me give you an hypothetical example:
Father = Ragnar Helgason
Mother = Inga Bjarnadóttir
Their son = Leifur Ragnarsson
Their daughter = Anna Ragnarsdóttir

;)

OK, no rules without exception: A limited number of Icelanders do have family names.

for instance,some changed the surname Stefánsson to Stephensen. ditto gudjohnsen

The thing with the familynames has been explained but the thing is that vikings named their sons after themselfes for example Jón (icelandic name) would name his son Jón and the boy would become Jón Jónsson. When this people went around the world and maybe every boy child in the family had been named Jón Jónsson maybe another child was born. That child would become Helgi (another icelandic name) but since everybody has forgotten the old rules his child would be named Otto (some name) Jónsson.
So Jónsson becomes Johnson and that is the story of the Johnson family name.

Concerning the old kit. I have it at home and will post pictures of it. Actually I was going to post pictures of the white Utd kit in some other thread but forgot the pictures. Anyway...
