Well, I finally have a reason for going to see an MLS game: Iran's Azizi is coming to San Jose (? I think that's the team)! I saw him at the Rose Bowl when Iran tied US 1 - 1 and he's truly an impact player.

Not only that, but the San Jose Earthquakes home opener against the visiting New York/New Jersey MetroStars on April 8th will have a World Cup '98 rematch between Khodadad Azizi (playing with the Earthquakes) and Lothar Matthäus (playing with the MetroStars).

Both those guys played against each other when Iran and Germany met in the World Cup two years ago.

Yes, but the NewYork/NewJersey/Connecticut/Pennsylvania/Delaware MeTroStArS are still awful and Lothar is about 80 years old.

Good. Then the chances for the Earthquakes to win is even better! http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/wink.gif

That's true, they did. That must have been their problem last season.

A MeTrOStArS note: The English football (soccer) magazine "4-4-2" runs a monthly column recommending how to go to a match at various places overseas. Last year, one month they featured the 'Stars at Giants Stadium if you're going to New York City. I wrote to them, "Why?" I asked.

They didn't publish my letter. Darn.

Did they write that if you go to the stadium by bus, on the way back you might have to wait for almost 2 hours to get on the bus to NYC? that's what happend to me and hundred of others when I went to Gotham Cup.

Also if you come from England, I really recommend you go catch a Yankees game instead.

Actually, for the first four years of MLS (1996-1999), they were the San Jose Clash. As of last October, though, the name was officially changed to the San Jose Earthquakes, the same name that the old NASL team in San Jose had (who played against the likes of the New York Cosmos, among others http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif ). The emblem, kits, colors, etc. all changed as well.

Unlike how EA screwed up most of the MLS teams (in terms of rosters, kits, etc.), the recent MLS2000 patch that came out yesterday is an excellent resource for the current rosters, kits, etc.

I'm not sure if you were interested in playing as an MLS club or not, but I just thought you should know. http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif
