I've been having this argument with a mate of mine about whether the English League is better than all the rest.. He is for and i'm against but i thought i'd bring it into the forum to see what you guys think...

I don't believe that the English league is the best in the world (apart from popularity wise)... The Spanish and Italian Leagues all have several quality teams which could easily compete with the English ones (if not defeat them)... My mate claims that ManU and Chelsea are the best two teams in the world at the moment :| so what do you guys have to say about this matter?

Argh yes The argument continues eh Alistair. well yeh i think its a kinda fair argument that the EPL is best league in the World. But ManU and Chelski are best teams in the World IMHO. I must admit Italians and Spanish teams have the flair and class. What bout u guys???

in my opinion, la liga and seria a are better leagues than the premiership. and i don't think united and chelsea are the two best teams in the world. possibly two of the best, but not the best.

At the time they aren't even the best in England.

I'd say the league as a whole is the best, with the nationwide and everything.

I'd say overall, La Liga is better than EPL tho.

Europe is always are great indicater for where the worlds leagues are at. I think Italy is the best league in at the moment, take a look at it they have the best teams in the world or atleast 3 in the top10. Juve, Milan, and Inter perhaps? And Roma nad Lazio and Parma are no pushovers and can beat anyone on there day. England you have Arsenal and Man Utd? Chelsea are still unproven. And Spain you have Barca? Madrid? Deportivo and Valencia?

All the teams are class but I think Italy is the best in the world because at the moment, Italian Style Football is the way to win big tourneys.

As for your mate who thinks Chelsea and Man Utd are the best in the world? Bitch Slap him for me.

EDIT : Just adding to before, the gap bewteen top and bottom in England I think is much less compared to La Liga or Serie A on some counts.

It's tight.

I think the Spanish League might just be the best. At least it seems that teams even on the bottom half of the table can take lots of points away from the top sides. For as long as I can remember there's been a pretty clear division in Italy into world class teams and others who occasionally drop into Serie B, while in England it seems that teams who are not at the very top don't seem to do that well in Europe, for instance in the UEFA Cup. The German League is class too and shouldn't be forgotten. The French League also procudes some good football so I have to at least mention it here, getting a little away from the subject.

I think the fact that La Liga is tough and the smaller teams seem very competent makes it my number one.

Spain has the best league IMO, the teams are very even

I'd have to agree with emo_kivinen. Like he said, teams that are at the bottom of the barrel are keen to take away points from the top teams. The Italian Serie A and La Liga are better leagues then the EPL, the teams are also better. In the Champions League, Italian and Spanish teams always seem to be the ones that are in the semi-finals.

English will say his league is the best, italians will say Calcio is the best league, and spaniards will say La liga is the best league :p

i think is close between that 3 leagues and maybe we could add tooo the german league

Your mate needs to check himself into a mental institution. Saying that ManUtd and Chelsea are the best two teams in the world is BS. Chelsea shouldn't be there anyway, and even if you think ManUtd is up there then at least also name Real Madrid, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Arsenal Fight Club

Give me a break.

Look at what English teams do in Europe... nothing.

La Liga is the best league in the world in terms of skill, quality of football and equality amongst the teams. Serie A, however, is extremely boring but it gets the job done and they win the big tournaments.

Personally, I'll prefer to watch La Liga as there is alot of freedom to move around and the good players can all demonstrate their skills.

why are we always quick to write off Chelsea?
I assume the guy meant this season, so it doesn't matter what any team did last year.

I think it would be fair given the matches played thus far and the squad they have to say that Madrid, Roma and Chelsea are playing the best football.

I think the spanish league is the best of the bunch, because of the eveness of the teams and the playing style..

i agreed that spanish league should be the best league in the world right now... whereas, EPL is the most famous and popular around the world...

IMO the spanish and italian league are a class above the EPL.
But about chealse being/not being one of the worlds best clubs,
I wouldn't give my opinion yet, mostly because they clearly have
a great potential. But on the other hand half the team is bought
players transferred in this summer. But as for the worlds best
leagues, I say 6 of 8 teams in the quarter finals of champions
league where from spain and italy... 4 of 4 in semi's... So if the
italian and spanish teams didn't didn't bribe anyone :o :o :o
then those numbers speak for themself!

EPL is the most popular one...but Liga and Serie A are better....but you wont find better technical players outside of Italy

Man utd- Juventus- Real Madrid
Arsenal- Roma- Deportivo
Chelsea- Milan- Sociadad
Newcastle- Inter- Barcelona
Liverpool- Lazio- Valencia

i think column 2 in the best out of the bunch....but thats just me...but Chelsea are doing big things so they will make a big difference sooner or later

supp doggs....

after watching the match between arsenal n man u... i think that the epl has fallen a bit behind other leagues... the attacking for both teams was lackluster...featuring only 1 or 2 bright spots... but overall i think that earlier years showed stronger sides which can outperform other great european teams..... i think it is more of a rebuilding and recruiting new young prospects...a new decade will have to take over what was left of the last... welps... in 2 or 3 years the epl will again be a top league ...thank you... thank you very much...peace

I'd say La Liga, but lets not forget about the Argentine league. Lets not forget it cuz its the best Latin American league, and because its so good it creates really good players. And these good players are then shipped off all over the world. I doubt any of the major leagues have not had an impact by an Argentine player.

Although I voted for EPL a while ago before the new season started, in that voting thread on which league was the best, but I'm very well convinced now that Spanish La Liga is the best.

26-09-2003, 01:27:AM
It depends what u mean by best.

The best quality throughout the league is in the Spanish League.

The best league to watch(and also the best coverage) on TV is the English Premiership!

Spanish Primera and Serie A. I like the serie A more, coz there are so many world class clubs (used to be much more a few years back). Serie was in early-mid 90s somethin like the NBA for basketball. All the best players in one league

definately la liga

there are more british people an this read so they will say the epl

IMO Serie A is the best league in the world, and definately the hardest to win, since it is such a tight league, with like 5 Scudetto Competitors, and like 4 other very good teams its always tight in the league...

IMO EPL is the most entertainment league. Maybe Serie A or La Liga are more balanced (Wolves *cough*), but I like watching fast and exciting football games with crazy fans in the background.

Of course my home league is my favourite though.

English league is not the best it's good but not the best. I rate it behind La Liga, and on OCCASIONS Serie A. But not even the EPL is as boring as Serie A...

northstar
26-09-2003, 07:04:AM
I watch 4 Serie A and 4 EPL matches a week and I dont see much difference as to if one league is more 'boring' than the other. Crap matches in both leagues, and you see the same number of goals per match in the top 3 leagues. So far this year Serie A has been more entertaining but there is still a lot of time to play. I dont mention La Liga because only just now will I get to see matches often so I cant compare it to the other leagues just yet.
Essentially the football is pretty much equal quality, with boring and exciting teams in all leagues.

One problem English people should have with the EPL though is the number of foreign players. There are far too many compared to Italy and Spain's league and this is why I think you wont see the England NT do very well. English players just do not get the chance to play enough so depth in the NT is lacking.

i reckon EPL isn't that best becasue there is always 2 team winin it manu or arsenal....:rockman:

the korean k-league is the best league in the world. :mrpimp:

actually, between the three, i prefer the premier league more, simply because it's more exciting to watch, its faster, more free flowing.

not to say that the primera liga or the seria a aren't lacking in talent either.

ability-wise, the players in the la liga and serie a are superior than in the epl.

26-09-2003, 09:01:PM
Well, I find English Premiereleague the most exciting, because of the speed and such. I think this is probably why it is most popular, but I must disagree with it being the best in terms of skills. But despite, spanish/italian teams being better I dunno I always found spnish/italian football slightly boring./

Um the best league in the world is .........the spanish national league

I don't know if I would say the English league is the "best" league in the world, but it is the most exciting. It's always full blast and the crowds are great. La Liga, when I was able to watch it (ESPN cancelled coverage a couple years back in the US), was the most fun to watch technically, but only when the big teams were playing each other. My favorite at the moment is the Deustche Bundesliga. They are scoring a massive amount of goals so far this season, and it sure beats Italy and the French league. SNOOOOOOOZ, 1 - 0 games every week.

MAN HOLD UP! you guys talking about league and whats better, Well personally the english league isnt the best but its the most fun to watch cuz like you all said it was fast and more entertianing than boring ass italian defensive football SNOORE!!! but other than that i think the ARGENTINE LEAGUE is more entertaining than english league without a doubt becuz its fast just like the english league BUT! they got more skills and you see alot more dribbles and skill moves wchich makes it alot better and of course their goals are great and the commentator screams GOOOOAAALLL!! and the fans fight and riot and they sing the whole game now thats what is called PURE FOOTBALL. ANd by the way if all the south american players stayed in south america their league would be alot better than europe when it comes to great football games and not money wise so dont bring that up please football aint about money its about skill

personaly, I think the class of Real madrid makes people overestimate the Spanish La Liga. I don't think you could find a league in the word that has six teams that could match Juve, Milan, Inter, lazio, Roma and parma.

I think its hard for anyone to argue that the best two leagues aren't Seria A and la Liga. Which one is best will probaly depend on personal bias. I don't really feel the La Liga top clubs are a match for the Serie A's top clubs, other than Real Madrid. The La Liga's clubs are probaly the best attacking clubs in the world, whilst the Serie A are without a doubt the best defensive teams in the world.

Without goals you can't win, but if you don't get scored aginst you can't loose.

The argentinian league isnt the best, but the argentinian fans rule, i have to admit it. I remember watching Velez get thrashed by some brazilian team 5-0 and the fans were jumping and singing all the game. I think the most exciting must be EPL, too bad i dont get games for it here in brazil. Serie A is kinda boring sometimes because of defensive minded teams. So for me it's between EPL and La Liga.

JeffBoy15
28-09-2003, 09:11:AM
Yeah, I never had much on the EPL.

La Liga and Serie A have always been my favorite leagues. Serie A is a little unbalanced... you know the "Famous Five?" But is there really any way to prove one league better than the next? Isnt it just all based on opinnion?

I guess you could base it on wins in the CL or which league has the most trophies....

Just my opinnion...
