Curb your enthusiasm. Last time we were invited to this tourny, the USSF turned down the invite. So this could be worthless.

I read somewhere that the US looked down on Copa America, and weren't willing to play in Peru in 2004.

damnit Caponedawg, i was gonna post this. :( :p

But anyway, hopefully the Kings of CONCACAF do as well as they did in 2001. Maybe now we'll be able to see a USA vs Mexico final :brow:

The only teams in South America right now that are clearly better than USA and Mexico are Brazil and Argentina. Of course we're gonna get killed by Brazil and Argentina. But as for our chances vs. the rest of the teams, I think both Mexico and USA will prove to be worthy opponents.

Now that I think about it though, Mexico DID Lose 3-1 to Peru... so I dunno... :p :D

I wouldn't look past Uruguay, maybe Ecuador (on a good day give you some trouble), Colombia (if they feel like playing), Paraguay, Chile (tied Argentina at home for the WCQ), heck why not even Peru (reasons stated above.)

They'll be there. There were afraid to go because of the situation in Colombia. Many teams did not take their best players, hell Argentina pulled out of the tournament. All the teams will bring all their top players and I believe the US will accept the invitation.

Stunna, aren't we automatic invites into the tournament?

It was a friendly match. I'm not trying to take anything away from Peru's victory. They did well but we've done very well to hold our own in the Copa America. We'll be alright.

Yeah, South America has a lot of quality national teams which would be tough opposition. Paraguay and Urugually especially. Colombia, like you said, 'if they feel like playing'. But they're not teams we would get killed by, as footballhell77 suggested.

For the record, USA has defeated Ecuador, Uruguay and Parguay within the last two years. Granted, those were all friendlies and they don't really count but at least they tell you something about where the teams are at. I'm really looking forward to this tournament (if USSF accepts the invitation). And it better be televised in the US or some heads are gonna roll. :f***:

Some coaches will get fired. ;)

But seriously, if Mexico or the US wins it that means a CONCACAF team won a CONMEBOL tournament. That is obviously an impossible statement and it will create a paradox, which will then cause the entire universe to collapse.

That's my theory. :mrpimp:

If the US or Mexico happens to win the tournament, they win. But as to who will represent South America in the Confederations Cup, if the 2nd place team is from South America, they will represent the region as the US and Mexico are invitees. Is that what you meant?

I just hope so. :D

i hope both USA and Mexico accept the invitation;it will be nice to have them in the cup again;although the copa America lately has been losing interest,in the last copa Argentina didnt participate and some teams like Paraguay take the young players to prepare them for the future whci is not bad but takes some emotion away

I hope the USA accepts the invite. The more games they play, the more experience they get. Plus, I would love to see Mexico get beat again by the US. You Mexico fans really need to get over the fact that the US has owned Mexico for 3 years now. Sure, they didn't win the Gold Cup, but Mexico didn't even have to travel one minute for their games. That tournament setup was bogus and clearly set up to benefit Mexico.

But otherwise, I think the USA would handle itself just fine in the tourny.

Obviously, but we've been either 2nd or 3rd the past couple of tournaments (mostly 3rd :crazyboy: ). Don't count us out. ;)

Same goes for the US. We are basically at the same level so no one should underestimate them.

Here is an idea, how bout since USA turned it down, how bout inviting Australia, since we never get to compete in an actual respectable confederation tournament, it would be prefect to get ready for WC qualifies, and bring closer links to the confederations

Because inviting a team from Oceania makes soooo much more sense, than inviting one from CONCACAF.

It's not our fault the Aussies are stuck in a **** confederation. :D

But if the Americans arent goin to accept, there is still room for wildcard entry, and ideal for maybe an Australian invite. I remember watchin all those times on the 'On the World Game' with Johnny Warren saying Australia needs to participate more in other federations competitions, through wildcard entries, such as Asian Cup or CONCAF Gold Cup (The previous few have had Brazilian U23 and South Korea, right?). Like COPA America always invites teams from CONCAF, so maybe if the Americans arent goin to accept, it would be good to look at the Australians. Like the last one, Hondurus, Costa Rica, mexico all played, with the exception of Mexico, i think Australia is about the level of those countries, if not better, it could boast the competition level and give a new experience for Australia

Well US fan if you guys can afford your own US stadium then you would not be complaining right? Did you guys get STUNNED when you didn't make it to the finals in the Gold Cup? I would say the same thing to you. Your Gold Cup chances were set when your 100%Immigrant team played in US territory but your excuse is because why? Oh yeah cuz you had to travel from stadium to stadium Good excuse Loser! Viva Mexico Cabrones!!!!!!!!

i guess i did get ahead of myself by saying USA would be in the final. :p

But Mexico has already been to 2 finals, and we would have won the 2001 Copa America if we wouldnt have been cheated. 3 of our starters were sent off in the semifinal game (c'mon, we're not even that dirty).

But i hope USA and Mexico get far so people can start giving CONCACAF a little more credit than they currently do.

Believe it or not it wasnt them, it was (though u might not know them) Aspe, De Nigris and amoeother player that i cant remember.

But it could have been Borgetti, but none of the Uruguayan defenders were pushing him around like the Brazilian defenders in the Gold Cup. :p

Kansas City Wizards 2-0 Santos Laguna

Oh yeah you also forgot to mention the CONCACAF Cup is scheduled in a way which is screwing over USA teams. It starts early so Mexican teams, which are well into their season face American teams which are in pre-season. That's really a fair way to compare two leagues.

IMO the US should definately go since this is a perfect warmup for the Worldcup, since there is a bigger supply of harder teams in Conmebol...

thats true, thats why Mexico hates playing in CONCACAF tournaments, club wise and with national teams.

The reason why USA/Mexico is always a big game is because of the rivalry and the fact they're the only two "good" teams in NA.

whats a longer time span, cuz i'm not sure. 3 years or from the beginning of soccer up until 3 years ago? So dont base your "owned" statement on 1 WC match and a few pointless friendlies. When USA has done as much as Mexico then u can talk.

Sorry man, but I don't care about "past" history. That is because it is in the PAST. And the US did win in the world cup which matters the most. I know Mexico had a good team in the past and dominated CONCACAF, but that just isn't the case anymore, you need to realize it.

I hardly consider Miami "home." And they did have to travel to that game, unlike Mexico who just sat in Mexico City. It wasn't a fair way to organize the tournament. I think they should do it in one place, or close to one place so that the teams have a fair advantage.

Do you know anything about Miami? It's not a place for American soccer fans, let's put it that way. I actually don't know where home for the US is. Anywhere that isn't on the coast I would assume.

But Mexico didn't have to play the US so it is a tainted victory as it relates to this discussion. And really, what was more important? Getting beat at the World Cup 2 - 0 or winning the Gold Cup while not having to play the US? Come on now, just admit it...

its a continental tournament, its not Mexico's fault USA wasnt able to beat Brazil. We beat the best team in the final *best considering they eliminated USA in the cup)

I don't care what Mexico did when Hugo Sanchez played. I care what they have done recently, and what they have done is consistently gotten their asses kicked by the United States.

Also, you should support your own country. I doubt any of the Mexico fans here are actually from Mexico. You don't see people in other countries rooting for the USA, so why do we have these idiots here who root for other countries? It is just pathetic.

And that one loss came in Mexico city during World Cup qualifying. But if I remember right most of those games were shutouts for the USA, but 2-0 most of the time.

and what they have done is consistently gotten their asses kicked by the United States.

And that is why the Mexico fans are so disturbed and lash out by calling people idiots and losers.

Because most of the immigrants to this country don't give a rats ass about it and just come here for the opportunities. I don't know if there is anything wrong with that, but supporting the country in which you live might be nice once in awhile.

Just read what I wrote here ---> I don't know if there is anything wrong with that from my previous post. I don't care what teams you support, but it seems to me that most Mexican fans are so belligerant towards anything other than their home team and can't face the fact that the USA has dominated them recently. anyhow, i'm not very familiar with mexico's younger generation of internationals. but it will indeed be interesting, as the us team is starting their transition phase to a younger generation. it will be interesting to see how youngsters like donovan, beasley, convey, bocanegra, twellman, buddle, gibbs, martino, etc. do, as well as how the rivalry will continue to fold. one.

I think the younger US players are just going to get better. Gibbs, as far as I am concerned should be in the back with Bocanegra, Berhalter (maybe) Convey, and Cherundelo. With 3 of those guys already playing in Germany, that is a good sign. I think Convey and Boca will be in europe by next year.

Twellmen hasn't showed anything to me yet, Beasley will be in europe next year, and Donovan should try to go back. The German league is a very tough league and can maybe turn our players into some hard nose guys.

Don't know much about the Mexican national team, so someone inform us on the younger players.

I am the son of an Immigrant. Does that make me an immigrant? Technically your definition is wrong. Considering that man wasn't conceived in America, but more likely in Africa somewhere, I guess the indians were once immigrants also. The first generation who comes to settle in another country is the immigrant.

By your definition, Mexicans may also be immigrants and should root for Spain instead of mexico. Why don't the Brazilian fans root for Portugal? The point is, it doesn't matter.

About Tugar and Emerton. He doesn't realize that they play for Blackburn Rovers and thinks they are Americans just because the US guy listed them.

Blanco150

INDIANS were the first people who ever lived in US territory before anybody else came.
Mexicans always lived in Mexico but Spainiards came to our country trying to take over but we refused to let ourselves and got back what we had. So Spainiards are trying to be like us.
It does not matter you are TECHNICALLY still immigrant if your parents came from somewhere else. I consider myself Mexican immigrant but I was born in California USA (Used to be MEXICAN territory). But because US law says if you are born in US your US citizen. Thats fine with me. It gives me all the benifits. In Mexico I get all the benefits just by having Mexican born parents thats what the Mexican law says. So if your INDIAN your a true US Citizen TECHNICALLY SPEAKING. But the law will say different cuz the white man wrote the law.;)

Bravo, I hate to be the one to tell you, but you really have no idea what you are talking about.

Just look up the defenition. And I really don't think the Spaniards wanted to be like Mexicans. I think they wanted your riches, and then wanted mexicans to be like Spaniards.

And sorry, but California is part of the USA, not Mexico. Therefore you are not an immigrant. Since I was also born in California, I guess I am mexican by your standards.

And how do you know the indians were the first to ever live in US territory? Maybe it was bigfoot.

anyways, blanco, please don't get into the whole "white man law" ish. and your parents may be immigrants and you might be from an immigrant family, but you're just as american as the next person. there's no such thing as a true us citizen anymore.

I could tell you the whole history of MEXICO Amigo but Im here to talk about SOCCER so I will skip you question and let me just tell this. Spainiards fell in love with MEXICO and chose to stay here that is why some of us are called "Mestizos" cus some Spainiards married our Great great great great great great GRANDMOTHERS.
Also in Mid 1800's California, Arizona, New Mexico and some other northern states belonged to Mexico but our Stupid ass President back in those days decided to sell it to USA. Adios Amigo!

So, do you guys think we will see great upsets in this new version? I'm basing this after the first games of qualifying, Chile tied Argentina at home, Uruguay won their first game lost second, Bolivia spanked Colombia:( , Brazil barely won against Ecuador. Of course, all this if all the teams field their full squads, Brazil will probably continue their long tradition of u-23 selecaos, or I'm I getting to far ahead of myself here, and we still have a long time till July...:kader:

He was the only player that was playing outside of Uruguay at the time. And he didn't play all that well either.

I seriously doubt Brazil will not use their U-23 squad. Argentina and Uruguay will probably use only local players AGAIN, and I don't see the rest of the sides calling up their Euro based players. No one takes the cup seriously any more... :(

I think they should make it every 4 years instead, and bump it up to 16 teams.

I think you're right, and we will see a trend forming, that only the host country will take it seriously and have a slighty stronger squad than the rest with their domestic teams. But on the point of bumping it to 16 teams, i don't want to see that happening, the tradition will be lost.

Mexicans in this board, this is the reason Mexico will always be the best in CONCACAF. Americans, Guatemalans, Salvadoreans, Hondurans, etc.. will always celebrate victory's over us like they've just won the World Cup. But anyways they could celebrate their wins while we win Cups.

Really. Those are good numbers. No one is denying that Mehico was better than the USA. Well now, now things have changed. Our national team has just recently even had pro players. Since then, we have undeniably progressed faster than most could have ever imagined, and really there is no sign of regression in the near future. So you Mehicanos can do the math.

Heres the bottom line:

USA currently does have Mexicos number.

-The world cup is the highest stage. In 2002, Mexico and the US met in the second round. Both teams had a fair chance to win, both teams had time to prepare. US beat Mexico 2-0. We took the early lead, and like most teams in the world, began to defend. Mexico put on the pressure, we had a counterattack and Donovan scored. We won 2-0 fair and square. Therefore, US is up on Mexico. You always hear people saying, when can Mexico get their revenge on the US? The gold cup means ****. None of the top teams had their A team, and Mexico and the US never played, so the US is still up on Mexico. ----This is all true, and i stand by this 100%

The Mexican fans on this board just can't admit that other countries in the region are becoming as good, or better than they are. You never hear them talking about how Costa Rica beat them in Mexico City 2 years ago.

Mexico, in my opinion, is not progressing as a nation soccer wise. The US and many of the other countries are very quickly and Mexico had better watch out before it's too late. How many coaches has Mexico had lately? How many different players? We all kno wyou won the Gold Cup, whcih was rigged in your favor, but you still didn't play the US in that tournament. The US lost to Brazil, what a surprise! They never win against Brazil. But what is not suprising is that the Mexican team can't can't beat the US anymore.

End of story, now go cry in your nachos.

About the handball... That is just the way the ball bounces. While it maybe should have been called, the handball in the USA - Germany game was so blatently obvious and really did stop a goal from going in, it should have been called. So the calls were even in the end.

Mexico is in the top ten best Leagues in the world, how is that not progressing? You would say that in 1995 and people would laugh at you. Now as for coaches i agree, most of them have been ****ing crap at choosing the right players. For example Meza called alot of Toluca players who were all ****in crap with the national team. Aguirre called alot of Pachuca players. And now Ricardo Lavolpe is calling alot of Atlas and Toluca players. Its not that our coaches are bad but their player choices are ****in moronic. Either way if the Gold Cup was rigged its not Mexicos fault the US was eliminated by a Brazilian youth-23 team 2:1 which BTW should've been 4:1 if it wasnt for the ****in refs dissallowing 2 legit goals.

Pope instead of Bocanegra. And I say this as a Fire fan.

A year or two from now, Bocanegra will probably be better. But right now, Pope is our best central defender.

they have been like a leaky faucet. but Freidel did get burned by 2 goals against Man City. At least Kellerhas 3 clean sheets in a row now.

@Elder - Well you pick the your keeper, and ill pick the best keeper.

@RunDmb - I swear, it came down to a flip of a coin(mentally, i didnt actually get out a coin and flip it.:) ). I really do think Boca is THAT good. Not only did he play magnificent in the back this year, he had 4 goals and 3 assists this year.

Haha... I was hoping it was that close of a decision.

Here's what I think:

if we're talking just about defensive abilities, Pope wins. He and Bocanegra have very similar abilities when it comes to defending, but Pope has twice as much experience, which makes him the better defender. Because he's less experienced, Boca is more prone to making mistakes.

offensively, I would say Bocanegra delivers a little more than Pope; four goals this year certainly is impressive, but if Pope hadn't missed most of the NT matches, I could guarantee it would have been something like 2 for Boca, 2 for Pope. Boca is slightly better on set pieces though. When it comes to passing I would say the same thing. Bocanegra is better at passing the ball.

So the question really is what do you look for in a defender. If you want a guy you can always rely on defensively, Pope is better. If you want someone who is more likely to add to the offense, it's Bocanegra.

I'm just hoping we're gonna have them together during World Cup qualifying. :)

ROTFLMAO!

So if Brazil played the Mexico U-23 and torched them 6-0 you'd count that as if they beat the Mexican national team 6-0.

Hey everyone, I had to post this on another thread because Blanco has been lying. Here are the REAL stats for the past 13 years of USA vs Mexico games.

Actually Blanco, I decided to do some of my own research and found out that you LIED on your statisctics. It doesn't surprise me, but I will now giveyou the real stats from the past 13 years!!

3/12/91 -- USA 2-2 Mexico TIE
7/5/91 -- USA 2-0 Mexico WIN
7/25/93 -- USA 0-4 Mexico LOSS
10/13/93 -- USA 1-1 Mexico TIE
6/4/94 -- USA 1-0 Mexico WIN
6/18/95 -- USA 4-0 Mexico WIN
7/17/95 -- USA 0-0 Mexico (4-2 Pens)WIN
6/16/96 -- USA 2-2 Mexico TIE
1/19/97 -- USA 0-2 Mexico LOSS
4/20/97 -- USA 2-2 Mexico TIE
11/2/97 -- USA 0-0 Mexico TIE
2/15/98 -- USA 0-1 Mexico LOSS
3/13/99 -- USA 1-2 Mexico LOSS
8/1/99 -- USA 0-1 Mexico LOSS
6/11/00 -- USA 3-0 Mexico WIN
10/25/00 -- USA 2-0 Mexico WIN
2/28/01 -- USA 2-0 Mexico WIN
7/1/01 -- USA 0-1 Mexico LOSS
4/3/02 -- USA 1-0 Mexico WIN
6/17/02 -- USA 2-0 Mexico WIN WC
5/8/03 -- USA 0-0 Mexico TIE

So to sum it up for you Mexican fans, especially the ones who lie here is how it break down. Since 1991 the totals are...

Wins: USA - 9
Mexico - 6

Ties - 6

Total goals scored: USA - 25
Mexico - 18

USA Shutouts: 11
Mexico Shutouts: 8[B]

USA Losses Since 2000 - 1
Mxico Losses Since 2000 - 5

Now then, judging by these results, Mexico fans can now shut the hell up about their dominance over the USA National Team.

Good luck trying to argue these stats. I noticed how you switched around some of these scores to favor mexico in your post. NICE TRY

Now that we all know Blanco is a liar, let us please ignore all of his posts.
