Managerzone (http://www.managerzone.com) and Hattrick (http://www.hattrick.org) are the two biggest online managergames in the world. Managerzone just went above 200,000. Hattrick has 170,000.

I am playing Managerzone for 10 months and Hattrick 21 months. Let's see wich one is better in the end.

Managerzone begun in 2001 and is available in 40 countries. They made quite some financial efforts. Real sponors, real names etc. etc. Hattrick seems a lot smaller when were talking about the commercial site of the game. Hattrick started in 1997 and had a lot of time to improve the game... It's available in 52 countries.

Paying for playing -

Both games are free and both have some extra's when you pay for the game:

Managerzone - When you pay for managerzone, you can play in cups and play against the top teams. You'll get MZ live and some extra's

Hattrick - The HT-Supporter function provides stats, press announcements, shirt designing, logo's and more.

Managerzone:

Graphics - 8
Gameplay - 6
Gamedepth - 7
Match Engine - 7,5
Community - 7
Addiction - 6

+ Real names, real sponsors..
+ Easy to learn, hard to master
- They really want to make to much money on their game
- No in game stats on 1 player

Hattrick :

Graphics - 6
Gameplay - 8
Gamedepth - 9
Match Engine - 6,5
Community - 9
Addiction - 8

+ National teams
+ Match ratings and reports
- Server speed is often slow (has improved lately)
- Paying to make a logo and shirts

Overall:

Managerzone is a great game and has lot's of potential. It's a pity that you have to pay for allmost everything you do. Even challenging big teams. But don't let that spoil you fun. I am still missing the match ratings. There is no way that I can see how well 1 player did in a particular game.

Hattrick has a great addiction level. The community seems to be a bit more alive. The game has more depth then MZ. For instance, nowadays the World Cup Under- 20 is being played (in Romania). The training system seems a bit better and the national cups are a real succes! Every game you play is free and paying supportes have 0% advantage wich is a good thing!

Conclusion:

Hattrick seems to overpower MZ. It's much more experienced so it has a huge advantage. MZ is still gaining on Hattrick but is has a long way to go.

And the winner is:::

HATTRICK!

"Hattrick - The HT-Supporter function provides stats, press announcements, shirt designing, logo's and more."

You have to pay just to change your kit... right...

"MZ: Match Engine - 7,5
HT: Match Engine - 6,5"

I don't agree with some of the others but this one was way out even though you went in MZ's favour. MZ has a real match simulator, the players actually play like real life. With Hattrick they just have a program that simulates a few moves and gets text commentary from it, there's no actual match being played like with MZ.

"Easy to learn, hard to master"

Wouldn't say that MZ is hard to master, they're about equal.

"They really want to make to much money on their game"

And Hattrick don't want to break even or make a profit either? They need to cover their expenses and pay wages for living costs etc. or there won't be a game...

"National teams"

Coming to MZ soon.

"Match ratings and reports"

There's been match reports in MZ since 2001...

I tried Hattrick but didn't really like it... just the player ratings for example, solid, passable, weak, etc... easier to compare in MZ with balls as you can quickly see rather than take a long look.

Do you have to pay to use the forums on Hattrick among some of the other extras? And there was something about the tactics I didn't like either, not as advanced as MZ and the same with training.

I prefer MZ as you can probably tell and if MZ started around the same time as Hattrick then I reckon MZ would be far enough ahead that we wouldn't have these comparisons. ;)

No all forums are free :) The tactics were introduced this season :hump:

How can you give MZ addiction 6 out of 10? I would have given it 8 at least..

Oh right, well I couldn't find any forums, least not what I can remember. And for challenging top teams, that's optional, you can always challenge to a normal friendly for free, just like in Hattrick... although from what I remember, you could only have one friendly a week in Hattrick?

Hat-trick definatelly doesn't deserve graphics - 6...the graphics are too simple while in MZ you got even a MZ live which shows your own match...MZ is better by far. (What else did you expect of me to say while you're writing on MZ forums? :S)

I did try to get into Hattrick but I don't like the way training works, the way tactics work, the way player stats are viewed and the way the games actually play.

I haven't played it like I've played MZ but from what I have played on it for the addiction just wasn't there. I could easily go weeks and months without logging onto Hattrick (infact I did and got my team deleted :( ) whereas I've logged onto MZ almost everyday since I started playing it.

MZ wins hands down for me.

when I played hat-trick, the stats weren't in balls (like mz) they were in words like "good" :kader:

I have played both games and I think that ManagerZone is better.

It looks better, Its better Graphics and has more features. Also you dont have to buy anything to get all the features of the game. Also the staff at MZ are far better then Hattrick.

I joined Hattrick and so did my brother(live in the same house use the same computer) and they kicked me off saying I had a double account.

MZ RULES!!

Another thing about MZ thats better then Hattrick is that MZ doesn't even have a waiting list like Hattrick does and MZ has more members!

Next time i'll post this on a Hattrick forum :crazyboy:

I guess playing them both is the only correct answer to this :rockman: , but Hattrick is way better.

I don't see national teams, Under 20 teams, experience, national cup, leadership, youth squads, a complete staff, fanclubs, 100 stats, a forum for each league, nation etc, a world cup, 52 countries on managerzone... now do i?

I could make the list a bit bigger, but i won't =)

"I guess playing them both is the only correct answer to this :rockman:"

Not if you don't like one of the games. ;)

"but Hattrick is way better."

Opinion, not fact. :p

"I don't see national teams... <snip>"

Features like that are being added, as I said, and I still feel that MZ is better. Who cares about these extra features if the main one, the match simulator, isn't actually a proper simulator in Hattrick and in MZ it is.

Have you seen the demo for MZ Live and the Analyser?

National Teams - Are coming, Chris already set up a site ages ago and now it contains all countries
Under-20 Teams - Hat-trick is boring and long winded with poor graphics. It bored me to death setting up all the extra squads
Experience - Hmmm...in what way. Mz has experience and so do the players :p
National Cup - Now you see why servers are so slow on hat-trick
Leadership - Both mz and players have leadership sigh...
Youth Squads - Uh...you just make a youth squad up from your youths and the C tactic :crazyboy:
A Complete Staff - Mz does have a complete staff, the game has many assistants and the teams have all the staff you need. Coach and players.
Fanclubs - Lol, I can just imagine them "go virutal team..."
100 Stats - I'm lost...but that sounds way to many stats
Forum for each league, nation - Yet again slow servers
World Cup -In development
52 Countries on mz - Quality is far greater than quantity, fool.

Overall rating - Broodrooster Stinks and lies! Managerzone is by far the more popular game. I don't see 200,000 members in Hattrick...now do I? I don't see two sports in Hat-trick...now do I?
My list could go on as well matey.

Also, the reason Mz charges for so much is because it is value for money because of the quality and the expenditure. Playing top teams on mz, compared to playing top teams on hat-trick. Mz has a massive gap over Hat-trick on this. Your servers also stink while ours do not. Why? Because Mz use our money to buy new servers and keep the others running. You are also bias. You have been playing Hat-trick for 21 months and mz for 10 months. What are you taking about? Hat-trick being around longer than mz. What does it matter to you? You could have joined both at the same time!

You cant really compare mz and hattrick. Hattrick has a huge advantage with their 6 years in the market. But mz is catching up (in features etc).

Ive tried hattrick once, didnt understand anything so i went back to mz :P

MartinWarnett

... in a poll on a forum dedicated to MZ?

That in itself would automatically bias a poll.

There are things in MZ I like, things in MZ I don't like.
There are things in HT I like, things in HT I don't like.

I play both, and enjoy both.

Both are online management footy management games, the way they go about it is different. Each to their own.

What I would say puts HT above MZ for me is that there's a greater sense of community on HT with the conferences, partly because of National teams, obviously MZ will hopefully catch up on that score. Also, I don't see the HT servers being taken down as often as the MZ servers, don't see games being delayed etc.

That's just my view, I'm sure I'll get slated by fanboys who believe you have to love one / hate one, but c'est la vie.

Ash
06-10-2003, 12:32:AM
why would you get slated. If you can enjoy both then good for you. I wish I could, but for some reason I just can't get into Hattrick. I couldnt even find the forums to ask for help so that was out of the question. Eventually I lost interest.

Did you start playing MZ or HT first Martin?

It's under Conferences...

Both around the same time, within a week of each other IIRC.

There are times when I concentrate on one more than the other, but it tends to even out.

Is that due to server downtime and maintenance? ;)
