Hahahahaha lol :D
PortoMarco 04-10-2003, 11:17:PM RFO is supposed to carry them because of St.Pierre et Miquelon (spelling). Those two islands are on "Canadian Waters" but are french property.
There is a satellite broadcasting French TV over North America because of St.Pierre. I saw the Marseille-Partizan game this past Wednsday cause of that!

Why show the Real Madrid match when Chelsea-Lazio is on?!
and then later they shuld be showing Ajax-Milan
bunch of wankers.
STML1 05-10-2003, 02:12:AM itll be boring to see Real whoop on small teams   ............they should show somethin better
mister 05-10-2003, 04:35:AM How can they not show Lazio-Chelsea?????!?!?!?!?!?!? ive been looking forward to that game more than any other game, even more than inter-arsenal. two quality exciting well coached teams against eachother. I cant stand watch real play anymore, theyre not even flashy like they used to be, im TOO mad. Im a die hard soccer fan, but i have NO INTEREST in the real-partizan game. WOW.
SB9Dragon 05-10-2003, 05:51:AM Thank goodness we have Arsenal in our group... if not I would never see an Inter game
ko_Totti 05-10-2003, 06:03:AM There is lot of stupid glory hunters in America thats why they show so many Real games, because they get crowd.
I say no one watch the Real game.
Elder 05-10-2003, 11:05:AM i get so bored watching Real Madrid all the time. Who gives a damn? This season will be the last for ESPN2 to carry these games and then there will be nothing. Why couldn't we even get just one Bayern - Celtic game?? Inter - arsenal? snooooz. Real - Porto? double snoooooooooooooz
I hate ESPN. they have really turned to crap. just show the games at 2 am so we fans can tape them!!

it's not about glory hunters. it's about real madrid being one of the more recognizable teams...thus, giving higher ratings.
now, if we boycott matches because we don't like the teams playing, espn will just decide not to air anymore matches next season if the ratings are low. i'd rather watch any teams than have nothing at all.

PScott 05-10-2003, 11:27:AM I love ESPN. Id watch if they were showing Real Madrid versus FC Ghduogofhuho Bay.
I find it funny to those of you who are Canadian or American calling all americans glory hunters. Im sure you all are actually from Rome, or London, or torino, etc. jerkoffs.

When you learn not to rely on ESPN for soccer, im sure that you will find life a lot less stressful.

Sorry, but ESPN is already cancelling it's coverage of the games after the first round this year. They are shifting it to ESPN Deportes, and if you are lucky to even get this channel, you will get to see some games. IN SPANISH. For those of you on this board who only speak english, oh well for us right? It pisses me off because if you have ESPN as part of your cable package you pay a lot of money for it, yet they don't cater to what ALL fans want. Just to what sports they decide to show.

I don't think so. There just isn't the audience for soccer in this country. Especially not at 2:30 in the afternoon when people are at school or working. I wish they would just show a delayed broadcast in the early mornings because ratings are not taken at that point and it wouldn't matter. Considering they already own the rights to the games, it wouldn't hurt to show them.

well, you can't expect espn to cater to every fan's needs right? i'm not defending espn, because i was hoping to see the chelsea/lazio and juventus/real sociedad matches too. but at the end of the day, espn are going to look after their own interests first...and that means higher ratings. since real madrid and manchester united are the two biggest names in soccer, they'll naturally have more fans and more viewers as well as the average soccer fan who's heard of the team and might sit and watch.
i know this sucks..it reminded me of when tnt or nbc would only show washington wizards and lakers games. but like i said, especially now since espn won't show coverage of CL anymore, i'd rather have any matches than none at all.

If more people in general watched the CL then ESPN would have to trouble showing the games on TV.
Elder 05-10-2003, 11:58:AM well, you can't expect espn to cater to every fan's needs right? i'm not defending espn, because i was hoping to see the chelsea/lazio and juventus/real sociedad matches too. but at the end of the day, espn are going to look after their own interests first...and that means higher ratings. since real madrid and manchester united are the two biggest names in soccer, they'll naturally have more fans and more viewers as well as the average soccer fan who's heard of the team and might sit and watch.
I agree with you here. But the point is, no matter if they showed Real or Manchester, they are still cancelling the games. So the ratings sucked no matter who they were showing. I also understand where their interests are, but if enough people get together to lobby or petition them to show certain things, I bet they would do it. BUT, i have written them countless times and never, ever receive a reply in return. They are huge, don't care, and will do what they want.
But since they are huge, if they actually tried to promote the game, they could help make it just as big. How often do you se advertisements for soccer on ESPN? But during the soccer games, you sure see a lot of advertising for their other shows. Oh well, I give up and won't get to see any games come the new year.
PScott 05-10-2003, 12:00:PM and it does hurt ESPN to show the CL games. Less stopages=less commercials=less ad time=less revenue for ESPN.
and about the start time. I consider it a favor that they show the games live. Where i live, the games come on at 8:30 in the morning. that means that i have to ditch school just to watch. my view though is; "hey at least its live."
Jedi Mind Trick 05-10-2003, 12:02:PM oh yea i agree with you. and i do wish that a huge company like espn could help market and promote the sport.

this is very true. i was gonna bring this up. networks thrive on commercials, and soccer doesn't have any commercial breaks. i'm just grateful that i'm getting live matches at all. like someone said earlier, it's bad timing for ratings for the network, since most people are at work or school. they lose out on advertisement money anyways. but i'm just grateful that i get to see some matches live. i mean i could watch any two random teams and it'll be all gravy for me.
mark77 05-10-2003, 08:07:PM note: on TSN's site: insted of Real Madrid-Partizan on oct.22 there's Rangers-ManU.
no bayern..
i thought that cuz RDS got the rights to show CL, RFO lost it. thats what some guy from WSvision told me.

Better than before, but still Chelsea-Lazio is the better matchup.
I think Man U will pound Rangers. Celtic were no where near their class in the preseason friendly. But who knows I guess.
Elder 08-10-2003, 08:44:AM Hey Bayern fans, since ESPN won't show any of the Bayern games this season, the Bayern website has set up a pretty nice video archive. It costs a very small amount of money, and has all the highlights and FULL games from Bayern. Bundeslgia, Champions League, Cup games, interviews, specials on German TV etc.
These are in English as well as German, so go check it out! I just recently signed up because I am quite pissed about ESPN not showing even the Celtic games!

Wednesday October 22nd Real-Madrid vs Partizan Belgrad LIVE (Spanish Language)
bizjer 20-10-2003, 10:42:PM if you want to watch CL games in the USA you should go to an Irish bar that has Setanta Sports.Check out their website at www.setanta.com, they have a huge list of games that they are going to show. If you need to find if there is a bar near your go to this page http://www.nafcsc.com , you may have to pay to get in to the bar but if you want to see your team play then theres always a price to pay. You'll be guaranteed a quality time though as Celtic and Rangers fan bars are known for their warm welcomes.Unless you support one of the two and you go in in teh wrong colours of course:rolleyes: , hope this helps
antithesis 20-10-2003, 11:38:PM lets be honest, Chelsea vs Lazio is no glamour tie.
Lazio were embarassed against Porto, who got their tails fed to them by Madrid, and Chelsea has like one good CL season in ten years.
If you are a Chelsea or Lazio fan, then fair go, you are disappointed, but the neutrals who want to see that game are few and far between.
I want to see Arsenal, Real, Bayern and Juventus, the others can wait for the semifinals for telly coverage......if they get there...
very good news for that TLN coverage ;)
Elder is right, that FCB champions section is great, give it a try!
