View Full Version : Wrong Foot

I'm a naturally Right-Footed player, and I play in midfield all the time, and the wings. Recently, I've been liking the Left Wing role, and my coach has been playing me there too. Thing is, I can't use my left foot at all (and I mean at all). I've just been doing what Harry Kewell has been doing, just on a different side. But I really need to be able to use my left foot, I know it'll be really hard trying to use it, but I was wondering if any1 could help. All comments appreciated.

yeah
practice practice practice
and then some more practice
training the weaker side just takes time

what sort of practices though? Cos whenever I do training (personal training) I mainly do it with my right foot, and I do everything (ball control, passing, crosssing, shooting etc), so should I just do the same, but with my left?

I can dribble with either foot, but I can't pass or shoot with my left. The only time I can get some power on the ball with my left is when the ball comes right to my foot from the opposite direction, if you know what I mean.

I don't think it's coz my left leg is weaker coz it isn't, so I think it's all about flexibility and technique. So in my case I think that even just practicing the shooting motion with my left would help, without a ball. I can't direct my left leg the way I can my right. You know, just directing my left to go the way I want. Same as when you try to write with your left when you're right handed. It's just awkward holding a pen with your left hand, same thing when you try to hit a football.

After all the injuries to my right peg I'm now both footed :p

The best thing to do with passing/crossing is to build it up gradually. For example, aim for a target 3 yards away and keep trying to curl it with your left onto the target, and until you can do this 3 times in a row move the target back a couple of yards, and then keep doing this until whatever distance you want. I doubt I could hit it very accurately with my left long range but I could cross a ball onto somebody's head from the wing on my left and would be quite happy to shoot from 25 yards in on my left. :) I ain't great hitting it with the outside of my left but I haven't really practised doing that.

Kader's right about the awkwardness part. The only way you can get rid of that is to practise like hell. Once you get the hang of it it will be like second nature, trust me (H)

im right footed, but i can pass and dribble with my left but cant shoot accurately with my left. Yea it does feel weird shooting with my left i feel like a girl when i shoot with the lefty lol, But i guess im gonna have to work on that but im not worried. As long as i can dribble and pass with the left im fine. Good luck tho man

I used to have this problem, I had it excercised out of me at Villa when I was 8 (H)

Kick a tennis ball against a wall for 2-3 hours a day using both feet. You get the technique from your strong foot (e.g. with me my right foot) and at the start, left foot technique is bad, which is why people find it tricky. After a while it improves noticeable, and you find that your learning curve increases after a while.

I scored a hat trick with my right foot and a hat trick with my left foot on Friday in out 7-1 win! (H) Including a 25 yard free kick on both sides. Different foot, same result. :lui:

I dribble with my right foot, and shoot from play with it. But recently i've taken a liking to taking freekicks and PKs with the left.

Do that, like go to a park, and just shoot freekicks with it for awhile.

Also train it like the others said.

Well I used to be really **** with my left, but then I got a operation on my right foot and couldnt kick the ball with it, so i practiced fks with my elft foot and improved alooott!! Although i stopped using it and now it sucks again :(

Help?

I can't do much with my right aswell, as you can't with your left. I can only kick it out straight and hard with my right and that's it.

BTW playing as a central defender in my last school game, i intercepted a ball at the half way line, got past three players and without ever looking at the net (only after i shooted) i scored a great bottom right corner goal just outside of the box:rockman: :rockman: :hump: . Now that was the best football moment i had! Plus it was our winning goal and definetly the best of the season so far!

they say that for left footers its more difficult to shoot with their right foot than for right footed to shoot with their left

I went to a gym for a couple months and built up some muscle in both legs, then whenever I go to a park near my houes I shoot with my left......the muscle I gained in my left leg is helping a lot, so just work out a bit..and practice shooting.....whenever u take a shot..use your left foot..me and my friends do it and now we're both footed.

I was told at the age of 11 that I could be playing first team football at 18 years old (for Villa, as I went to that youth acadamy) but I tore my ligaments above and below the knee and it left me out for 2 years. Then playing badminton (I used to play for my county before I moved to France) I tore my bicep muscle in my right arm, again removing me from football, so injuries have spoiled any hope I had of a football career. At least I have the ability skill for out school team! :rockman:

My fellow striker is left footed and NEVER plays with his right. If someone releases him for a one time right foot cross he'll always go inside

I'll try to get a header hattrick next time, I should really as I am 6'3" and everyone else is about 5'9". I always seem to try to volley instead of heading it though.

Thats my 2 (thousand) cents (H) ;)

I know how that feel mate :(

At 11 I broke both my right tibia and fibula, all I'll say is never shirk out of a challenge! :p

And just this summer (after a couple of EPL clubs taking an interest in me) I tore 2 ligaments the first kickabout I played in on holiday! :p

I know I have the talent to be a player (some of my footballing mates are coming close to breaking into their respective first teams) and when I was on form I would often outshine them (honest!) but I just lack the very strict discipline required to be a footballer. Oh and I'm as fit as Bernard Manning! :D
