LOL he's leaving Middlesborough by New Years to go to the MLS, most likely NY/NJ
I'm not making fun of the MLS. This is actually a very good thing assuming he gets his act straight. Too bad McAllister decided not to go. I had heard NY/NJ were going for him as well. They could actually build a semi decent team if they got all the players they were going for, Gazza, McAllister, and Matthaus.

That's only the half of it. If they gave their excess baggage their releases (Tab Ramos and Eduardo Hurtado), they might have a lot going for them.

yeah,
those would be great players to have if they where all 10 years younger. All 3 of them are done.

It will still be an improvement. Should make the games at least semi enjoyable to watch.

Strange thing. Whenever MLS is rumored to be after a player, it always seems to be the MetroStars that are after him. It's as if they're the only team in the league.
My guess is that it's very unlikely Gazza will go to the MetroStars. In MLS, there's a limit on the number of foreign players a team can put on the field. Today, the MetroStars had to cut Ecuador's Eduardo Hurtado because they were over the limit.
My guess is that Gazza will end up with the team in Columbus. Remember that Mo Johnston had much the same reputation before he joined Kansas City. While Johnston hasn't been much of an MLS player, it does look like he's straightened out his life.
McAllister said today that he would stay at Coventry for another year, so he won't be coming to MLS, either.

I wouldn't believe this story, it probably came from TeamTalk or Soccernet.com and I think we all know about those sites. Gazza might think about it but I wouldn't bet on this going through. Plus it's pure speculation right now, Gazza and MLS have not even talked.

I actually think he'll go. Unlike Matthaus and McAllister, Gasgoine isn't playing regularly. If he goes he will be in the starting 11 no question. He will be used as a marketing toy. "England's Top Midfielder Of The 90s Joins NY" or something of that nature.

I think it's pretty much a done deal. We've been hearing the Gascoigne thing for more than a year over in the States. Gazza's said he'd like to end his career in the US, and if Middlesbrough isn't going to use him, why not go now?
