Hello well im just wondering what you guys think about american sporting final events vs any top soccer final. Well for example this years world series no one really cares about it cuz they wanted to see the 2 underdogs play and also in the last nba finals no one cared becuz of the 2 teams that were in it. But in soccer's last world cup im sure no one didnt wanna see 2 underdog teams in the world cup final becuz it would be a very disappointed world cup to most people. So why is this, becuz in soccer now matter whos in the final of a big tournament most of the people would care to watch but its different in american sports. Can anyone explain?

what i don't understand is why americans tell that NBA or NFL champions are "World Champions"...

months ago i thought about starting a thread about that, but i forgot about it. But to be honest, in American football they would be world champions. I want to know if they called the LA Galaxy "World Champions" when they won the MLS championship. :p

Also there is a good point in saying that becuz they could beat other teams in the sport and no other team play then they can call themselves world champions. But im sure when modern day football started in england and a team won their division or whatever they had back then i dont think they said they were world soccer champions. and another thing i dont see college teams who play american football calling themselves world champions they say national champions eventho they are the only ones who play too so its really the same in some ways. you're wrong. these leagues are played just with american and some canadian teams... so they aren't world champions... they are just NORTH-AMERICAN champions because they doesn't play with teams of other countries.
why NBA have the right to call "World Champion". the real world champions are from FIBA competitions. the international basket federation. NBA is just an american league.

Go ahead and find a team outside of the U.S that can beat the San Antonio Spurs. You wont be able to. San Antonio Spurs are the best team in the NBA, therefore the best team in the world, therefore World Champions.

Edit: The best prospects from all over the world come to the US to play their sport. NBA,NHL,MLB,NFL are the premier leagues for their sport.

you don't get it? i know that it's very difficult a rest of world team beat the spurs (not impossible) but it's only an opinion... if they want to be world champions they have to play with teams of other parts of the world... do you get it now?

as for this year's world series, nobody's interested in it because once again, it's the yankees. unless you're a yankees fan, everyone else is sick and tired of watching the yankees win year after year. most people wanted to see boston vs. chicago b/c those clubs not only have huge followings, but haven't been in the world series in so long. something like 95 years for the cubs. and just as long for the red sox, since they've won one.

for basketball, nobody cares about the finals because the west is so much better than the east. whether it's the lakers or spurs or kings or whoever, they're just better than the eastern teams. so the real "finals" are in the western conference finals.

and for the world cup, it's different because you're dealing with whole nations and countries. not just local professional teams. and soccer is the world's most popular sport. whoever was in the final, millions of people will probably watch regardless.

now..as far as your other 27 posts, i think it's retarded too how they call it the "world champions" and stuff. but, in reality the best basketball league and baseball leagues and american football leagues are in america. players from all over the world come to play here, not like soccer, where player flock to different top level leagues in several countries. so in a sense, they are the "world champions." as for college, top college sports are governed by the ncaa (national collegiate athletic association), and thus, they are national champions...since they're champions of colleges and universities in the nation/country.

when i said america cant beat the world at its own game i meant soccer as the worlds own game not soccer as america's game. Ok what did i complained and said about the MLS? everyone says it sucks and they all bash it and well its an ok league but its boring to watch thats all i said about that mls league. I lived in Chicago for a year, and yes, people around there are ignorant of what happens outside of the US. You don't know how hard it was for me to find any info on what happened outside of the US. Thank god for BBC America.

I agree with the points made about the NBA and NFL champions being declared world champions but I DO know why the championship of North American baseball is called the World Series.

The reason is that when there was a baseball championship at first it was sponsored by a US newspaper called The New York World and therefore it was named the World's Series. The name stuck but became more commonly known since then as the World Series.
