...are given way too fast I think. Is there any way to reduce the speed of which red cards are given (maybe some of the referees are more leniant then others)?
Don't get me wrong, I like to have a red card when one is due, not as in FIFA where you can kick someones teeth back in his mouth and get away with it. But in the heat of a soccer game one tends to make a professional foul in midfield, just a minor tackle to hold up play - and all of a sudden you get send of for it...
for everything else: I love this game (been a fifa follower since '95 but with the buying of a PS2 I'm now DEVOTED to the soccer realism of PES3) :)

I've noticed this in the PC demo. Alot of dodgy decisions. And some tackles which are blatantly red cards only get yellows. Having not played the full version of the game, i have no idea if this option can be tweaked, although i'm sure you can turn off bookings altogether.
I've also noticed that the ref gives advantage, when there clearly is no advantage! On several occassions i have hacked a player down, got the ball myself, yet the ref has given an advantage! Doesn't make sense.

Hell guys I think that just adds to the realism of the game!
U watch ManU vs. Rangers today? Ref was blind!!!!!!!!!
Bad calls are part of football. Unless every call is bad that is...
just don't slide tackle as the refs give out red cards randomly....but usually just ignores it if the AI blatantly slide tackle you
refs in PES3 are the most biased towards the AI side that I've seen in a footy game...realistic my arse

Isnt it so youre just playing all the time with the same ref in the demo? This particuliar ref might be just a bad one.

The advantage rule isnt flawless but apart from that i think the referees act pretty much like thier real life counterparts. You simply cant tackle from behind in pes3

you could be right about that :)
since it was like that in pes2 on ps2 in some matches i would get lot's of cards then other i wouldnt get any.. so ye think konami made the game like that :)

I read that some refs in the game are more lenient than others. I've had a few players sent off, imo it's because I'm trying to learn how to time the slide tackles well and when I've been red carded it's generally because I've got it completely wrong on a last ditch effort.
With some blatent fouls not being given, I've had them against me as well as for me. It's part of football. Gets you shouting at the tv as well, doesn't it. :)
I noticed that in the ps2 demo that was released before the game, sometimes the advantage rule would be poor, can't say I've had a poor advantage decision for or against me in the full version, yet.
The other thing about the demo was that handball seemed random. Its very well implemented in the full version.

Well i think the handball rule should have been left out as its totally outwith the players control and most of the time ur left staring blankly at the tv. Never had one yet in the pc demo so heres hoping everything remains sweet. Ive had the odd dodgy advantage decision in pes3 but as u say this could be part of the game. Some of the fouls ive mistimed and got away with are scandalous but then again the com has done the same to me. The game is spot on in my opinion and even the flaws leave u thinking "did they mean to do that" .

the handball rule is kinda disturbing I think, but the advantage implementation works superb for me in every match I play. A very nice tweak from Konami.
I think it's cool to get red cards for tackles from behind, but sometimes side tackles are punished the same way and that's simply annyoing. Don't give me that realism crap because most of the fouls you see on TV that just get a yellow card are far worse than some minor tackles I got a red card for in-game.
Nobody got an idea which refs are less likely to give a heavy sanction?
other than that: I have the game for a week now and I'm getting the hang of it... damn this is addicting like hell!

How do you know when you make a handball? Maybe i have not had one, but i've had a few random free kicks that look that's all they could have been, as there appeared to be no foul. I would have thought you'd get a symbol and a replay if you handballed it.

in full version listen for the commentators (bad for ur health i know but youll hear trevor brooking say "is that a handball") full commentary not in pc demo tho ;)
