ISTANBUL, April 20 (Reuters) - Three men identifying themselves as
supporters of Turkish soccer team Galatasaray sliced off the ear of a rival
Fenerbahce fan after abducting him off the street, the Sabah newspaper said
on Thursday.
The incident came on the eve of the second leg of a UEFA Cup semifinal
match between Galatasaray and Leeds United which has been overshadowed by
the deaths of two English fans who were stabbed to death in Istanbul two
weeks ago.
Sabah said Fenerbahce fan Okan Guler, a well-known cheerleader for the
Istanbul side nicknamed "Rambo", was bundled into a car on the Asian side of
the city and taken to a local picnic area.
"When I saw the Galatasaray flag in the car, I started to panic," the
paper quoted him as saying. "Then they cut my ears with a razor saying 'feed
these to Fenerbahce'."
Guler's left ear was completely sliced off in the incident.
An intense rivalry exists between Turkish league champions Galatasaray
and their cross-town rivals Fenerbahce, frequently leading to violence.
Even if i wasn't the Fenerbahces fan i would still be really mad, so i don't want anybody saying you posted it only because you are a Fenerbahce fan.
