View Full Version : Wouldn't it be cool if...
Sir Calumn 27-10-2003, 09:37:PM ... you could be a Player/Manager. Ie, not only manage the club you select, but play for them aswell. You could determine your player stats either in an SGFC style 'pick 'em' theme (to a total max) or they could be totally random. I think this would be a nice addition.

IT would be a good idea, but i need lotta work in coding make it actualy be good/fun to play. Just adding this to the game doesnt mean it's goin to be good
Sir Calumn 27-10-2003, 09:58:PM Even if it only played a small part, like you simply being another player on the team sheet and being able to pic yourself, it would still be cool. Also, this way it would be easier for them to get in a feauture of clubs offering you contracts much better which I always thought would be a great addition.

PSVFOREVER 27-10-2003, 10:06:PM I played a game where you are a player. You get a girlfriend etc, and play matches: just tekst. After 10 games you had to pay $5 tho:( I'll look if I still have it...............can't find it, but it was fun, bit difficlut tho, always ratings like 4 and lower
Sir Calumn 27-10-2003, 10:12:PM What do you mean you had to pay $5? Was it an online game or something?

PSVFOREVER 27-10-2003, 10:15:PM yeah, it was from some weird site. I found it on a forum. You could easily crack it tho:p

.::John::. 28-10-2003, 12:17:AM Well you could always just edit yourself in  I see what you mean tho :)
willem 28-10-2003, 02:13:AM It might be cool at first, but I think it could get boring after some time:(
mlsmanager2002 28-10-2003, 03:06:AM New Star Soccer. http:\\www.newstarsoccer.com\ quite fun, and he's coming out with NSS2.
Anyways, there's another one, Andreas Osswald's Championship Soccer, sort of like Sensible World of Soccer where you can be a player and a manager but the teams are all like Bolton Vanderers, etc. http://www.championshipsoccer.net
yeah i think thats a great idea calumn, but like a few have said, the problems come about when you have to decide how good you are. and how old you are.
TROD.

TROD. I didnt think of that, currently in CM the youngest you can be as a manager is 34 which is about as old as a player could be. They'd have to lower it to 25 I think if they introduced player managers. But isn't Chris Coleman younger than 34 in real life?

Ebonix 28-10-2003, 06:42:PM I agree it would be a good idea, but realistically player/managers only play for about 3 seasons, so I can't see programmers working for weeks on a new game interface, controls etc just for the sake of you playing player/manager for a maximum of 3 seasons. I would love the idea and playing it would be superb but it ain't gonna happen with SI
I have read something about a game similar to this for the PS2 mind. I'm sure you've all heard of Pro Evolution Soccer? Well the Japanese version is very different, I have seen pictures of a game which has managing capabilities but you can also play (So like a player/manager game) with the game interface being that of PES3.
rpvankasteren 28-10-2003, 07:45:PM There is a lot of fiddling in the tactics possible in the PES3 demo. And you can select to be just in charge of tactics, and not play.
is there a demo for PC? I'll just might want to try this game ;)
rpvankasteren 28-10-2003, 08:00:PM Soccered.com (http://www.soccered.com/downloads/files.php?func=selectfolder&id=54)
thanx, but It looks too big for me. :(
rpvankasteren 28-10-2003, 08:12:PM I was afraid that might be the case, at 242 Mb, but it's a hell of a cool game. :) :p :mrpimp: :D
And I'm a 56ker (not even 64k anymore)
rpvankasteren 28-10-2003, 08:52:PM That's just under ten hours of dl-ing :)

yeah, newstarsoccer is the one I ment.
Sir Calumn 28-10-2003, 10:40:PM I think it would be worth it, even for 3 seasons. I only take one in five of my games beyond 3 seasons anyway, and as the player, it would be your descision when to retire and as manager you could play yourself every match so in theory you could be 50 years old and still be a player/manager cos there would be no-one to stop you but you.

I think it would be a shame when you die of a heart attack on the football field though

no, suppose you're right, though my broadband is still not as fast as it should be. I blame it all on Windows98

Believe me Windows 98 is the spurn of a hell of a lot of problems with PCs
PSVFOREVER 01-11-2003, 08:01:PM I love Windows98(H) Always after your PC crashed and yu started it again you got that blue screen. I miss that in XP:(
You should try win2000, if u think XP is too "heavy" for your system
Ebonix 01-11-2003, 08:23:PM Windows 2000 isn't bad. The only problem is it was built on NT technology which means allot of games aren't designed to run on it. I have windows 2000 pro on my system at Uni. It runs surprisingly quick for a 900 p3 processor
PSVFOREVER 01-11-2003, 09:09:PM I don't think XP is too heavy, but it:
1) almost never crashes:f***: ;)
2) If it crashes I want to get that ''awesome'' blue screen. I liked it a lot:p :D
Actualy, I find Win2000 better. XP is alctualy based on the NT kernel. But if someone wants more speed for game, win2000 is the way to go. And most pre-win2000 games work. (Using win2000 3 years now + XP the last 7-8 months + linux the last 5 years :crazyboy: )
Sir Calumn 02-11-2003, 02:28:PM Back on topic please guys...

Thanks...good to see that someone besides me isn't limited to the big name games!
CM'll never do it, or in the very least release it as a separate game. You'll have to look elsewhere.
Sukur54 03-11-2003, 08:15:AM you know what would be cool if you can buy a team and start to run the whole team that would be ******* phat.
