away plus5points
home plus3 points
draw
1 point
lost-
away minus 1 point
home minus 3points

in this way the leagues would be more fun.
just think.for eg.. a club like man utd. would be top of epl at around 30 games played with a lead of around 15.it would be basically impossible to clinch the trophy from them at that stage.so in the subsequent matches they would play all there reserve players as a practice match even if they lose.if negative poits would be there then they would play right till the end with determination and making the title race intresting and thereby not killing the league early.this happens in the bundesliga when fc bayern win the league with many matches to go.

First, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Second your system isn't an improvement:

Adding or substracting pts is of no use, so combing them, making it relative makes:
Away win = Away win (5pts) vs Away Loss (-1 pts) = 4 pts
Home win = Home win (3pts) vs Home Loss (-3 pts) = 0 pts
Draw = 1 pt

Combining the two types of win and deviding them (because you'll always play a team home and away) gets you 2pts for a game you won. That's just like the old system, the 3pts per win system proved to be much more entertaining.

English FA once proposed an extra point for team score more than 4 goals in a matich during th initial EPL,,If I m not mistaken,,It did not turn out,, But current system is the best so far

So, an away win would cause an EIGHT point turnaround, since the away winner would collect 5 points, and the home loser would lose 3 more.

In addition, a home win would cause a four point turnaround, since you're taking a point away from the away loser. A team shouldn't lose four points in the standings for dropping a game away from home.

I wouldn't change anything, but if you must do something, maybe you could throw a bonus point for scoring four goals, like they do in the Rugby World Cup (i personally hate this rule, but it's something...).

Since i have some free time, i am willing to apply this "points system" to last year's standings. At the end of each line is the position in which they finished last year.

Manchester United - 94 Pts 1st
Arsenal - 84 Pts 2nd
Chelsea - 68 Pts 4th
Liverpool - 68 Pts 5th
Newcastle - 66 Pts 3rd <--ends up with fewer points under this system
Blackburn - 58 Pts 6th <--ends up with fewer points
