For real though. Why the ageless wonder over Donovan? Did Preki win the golden boot?

I think he would be against Donovan being the MVP because he missed a lot of games due to national team duty. However, I do think Donovan is the MVP of the league. I agree with most of Run DMB's picks though. Ralph for Rookie of the Year is a no-brainer.

MVP: Landon Donovan

Coach of the Year: Dave Sarachan

Defender of the Year: Eddie Pope

Goalkeeper of the Year: Pat Onstad

Comeback Player of the Year: Chris Armas

Rookie of the Year: Damani Ralph

If you've watched enough Earthquakes games this season, you'll know that Donovan has been completely invisible in half of those games. Yeah, he gets a lot of attention from defenders. But guess what? Thats something all stars have to deal with, not just Donovan.

I know, I know - he does "the little things" that nobody notices. Fine. He's a superstar - and when you're a superstar you have to make your presence felt. You can't be a star and get five or six touches on the ball per game.

He missed games due to national team duty. Fine, let's look at the stats on a per-game basis:

POINTS PER GAME this season:

1.Taylor Twellman - 1.55
2.Preki - 1.37
3.Donovan - 1.36

If you have one player who's been doing a great job 2/3 of the season, and one player who's been doing a great job ALL season, you give the award to the guy who's been there for all 30 games.

Preki is more important to the Wizards then Donovan is to the Quakes. Where would the Wizards be without Preki? Up sh*t creek without a paddle, that's where. On the other hand if you'll remember, the Quakes did quite nicely without Donovan earlier in the season.

Don't get me wrong - Donovan has had a very good season, even by his standards. He's certainly been one of the top players in the league. He's probably the best player in the league. But the MVP he's not.

Preki has recorded 17 assists this season. That's 6 more than the closest player. He won the overall scoring title with 41 points - 6 more than the next closest player. The MVP award is not supposed to be just about scoring, but when you've done so much it's hard to ignore it.

In the end, Preki has been spectacular all year. He's my MVP. And by the way, there's nobody who hates the Kansas City Fairies more than I do. But you gotta give credit where credit is due. If Donovan wins it, it would be the result of a popularity contest.

The first half of the seaon i definately thought Carlos Ruiz would be the MVP. But then he kind of trailed off. Ante Razov should probably be a candidate for all the big goals he had this season. Other than that, i just cant see Preki winning the MVP at age 49.

What does age have to do with this? So what if Preki is 57, he's still been the MVP this season. ;)

He's been establishing dominance all season.

BTW, I forgot some awards:

12th Man of the Year: John Wolyniec

Best XI:

coming soon

too tired right now

hahah. there we go.

I didnt mean it as an insult, he truly does deserve it. But its still hard to believe that this man is still playing soccer. I remember watching the 98 MLS allstar game and thinking, this guy will probably retire at the end of the season. And Im also kind of dissapointed that Landon, Bryan Mcbride, Clint Mathis etc. didnt have better seasons (statistics wise). I hoped that one of them would be getting the MVP.
