View Full Version : FIFA2000.....DISAPPOINTING...staying w/ FIFA99

I just got my copy of FIFA2000...now this is the only game I would ever buy without first trying a demo. I've always trusted EASports to deliver and they've never disappointed me too much...except now...

I liked the intro movie and the interface screens and the music rocked....but that was where it ended...

Going through the leagues to play in the Brazilian one I was disappointed to find that I had to set it up myself in the custom league option as well as the MLS league. I thought "okay...thats just me" so I started a game b'w Arsenal (yeah man!) and Man U (booo!). I was soooo disappointed firstly at the speed of the game (way way too fast for normal) and the player models and then the lack of attacking tactics I've gotten used to in F'99. The game was just stupidly fast. I resorted to pin ball soccer again. The capture of running was just not the right one. At least in F'99 there wasn't a stamp of a unique running style that f'2000 has now. Now everyone runs like Sol Campbell and to tell you the truth its bloody annoying and ugly..especially the transition from sprint to jogging. Then there is the haphazard angle changing sprints of the players. They move too fast when turning any angle more than 90 degrees. i'm surprised there weren't injuries for that when it happened.

Then there are the player models. Too cartoonish and too thin. Unlike my more fleshy f'99 models (who also sprinted decently and slowed considerable when turning an angle of any sort). I didn't much like NBA Live because of the player models and these guys this year have made them appear in f'2000. Why? When f'99s were the build up of f'98 and wcup'98? And they looked so good.

Maybe its just me (you're saying "yeah it is just you, punk") but i thought it was disappointing when these little things which are probably not too important can ruin the game for a few. Its just not realistic enough. Fifa99 slowed down enough was good for me. The AI is no where near as good as f'2000, which is a real plus for f'2000. Replay screens are awesome as well. But the fakish models backed up with even more fake unrealistic player movement when running just ranks this game, for me, a few notches below f'99. I'm selling off f'2000 and sticking w/ f'99 and then wait for the next FIFA installment in a years time. Hopefully enough complaints about these little things from others can make it a better game

PS Fifa2000 AI into Fifa99 would make my ideal footy game.

spooky eh? 5 minutes after posting my f2000 topic, along comes another with the same gripes.
I totally agree with Tarzan, for me it's the cartoon like players that really kill the game.

Sorry, I cant understand why people like fifa 99 so much. To me it was a joke, frantic high speed ping pong, not football. Fifa 99 never ever came anywhere close to feeling like a soccer match. I traded my copy of it after only a couple of months. You guys can keep all your flowery stuff, I want a game that feels like a football game not some arcade ping pong ball thrash session.

That's exactly my thoughts about fifa2000, unrealistic arcade game. I mean, take a look at the box shot of Sol Campbell and then look at the player in the game, it's a joke.

And the stadium, it has no feel (atmosphere) about it at all. Check out the stadiums in Fifa 99 and compare.

I do think the seasons are better though, with league, cup and relegations included.

My Ideal footy game (for what it's worth) would be.

looks and atmosphere - Fifa '99
AI and gameplay (a bit slower though) - Fifa 2000
Transfers/Seasons - Sensible World of Soccer.
This game had just the right balance of transfers and realistic injurys (sometimes a player could be injured for the rest of the season). And you could play for about 10 or 20 years in the carear mode (not real time of course:-).

Anyway, how sad are we? grown men moaning about a computer simulated football game !

Tony, you wanna know what sad is, Im 36 and am addicted to my footy games. }=). I would love the speed of Road to the world cup, the atmosphere and shirt detail of World cup 98, the look of Fifa 99 , the international options of Road to the World cup, the consecutive seasons of Fifa 2000, replays of Fifa 2000, special moves and tactical control of Fifa 99 and an endless list of stuff from other games. i need a life

I totally agree. One other thing, coming from a soccer player, is that they pass/cross way to slow. They take their time. Heck I can cross a ball faster than they can. It's like they are taking their time which you can't do in soccer. Another thing is that if you do pass to another player, they run away from the ball and the defender runs to the ball. HOW THE HECK ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO PASS THE BALL AROUND?!

ZZUB, you have just described the perfect footie game. And what's more, I don't think
this would be impossible to make if EA would
for once just listen to our friggin' feedback. The players in Fifa 2k belong in a Roger Rabbit movie, and so does the speed at which the game is played. I've lost all hope that Fifa 2001 will be better, but hopefully
the other companies will start providing some
stiff competition.

Hi guys,

If you don't like the FIFA 2000 speed, why not try the Speed Patch at http://www.fifa2000.net/downloads/patches.html ?

Whats going on with the speed patch. I mean it slows the game down but why does it make teams like Man utd crap? As for the game. I think it is one of the best. With the speed of the game, I find that it depends on your system. Playing it on my friends p2 330 with 128mb of Ram and 8mb 3dfx it is perfect apart for the colors of the jumpers being too bright. When I play it on my computer p100 64 ram and 4mb video card (no 3dfx http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/frown.gif, I find it a bit too fast(same with fifa99) but the passing of the ball is perect speed.
Love the goal keepers, they still do stupid things but like them better than any other fifa game.. What can I say a 9 out of 10 from me !!!!!!!

I agree with the earlier posting that if EA's competitors were producing some better stuff, then perhaps thet would stretch EA. So come on gremlin, where's Actua 4 ?

definitely agree with most of you guys... the cartoonish look almost gave me a heart attack when i started my first match...i quit it instantly to check on my 3dfx settings..

in spite of the amazing speed of the game, theres still:=

the crowd which was too colourful but their movement was an improvement.

this could be just me, but i find myself depending endlessly on the spin move, its the only way i get past players sometimes, and its the only special move that actually works well.

im surprised no one noticed that when you have a player run into the penalty box after leaving your marker stranded the other defenders never close in on you fast enough..in fact, they actually retreat from your direction at first...this might be due to the man to man marking system set by the team management but i havent tested it out yet...

anyway im positive there are still many things that can be done to improve this game...cya

And what about the actual stadiums, there only seems to be one, or are there any buried deep in the options somewhere?

Anyone have any ideas?

I agree with all of you who think that FIFA2000 is a stinker. In my opinion, it has only one good feature, and that is being able to play consecutive seasons. The software is full of bugs. I had a heck of a time getting it to run. It wouldn't run on my 24X CD-ROM, but it runs on a slower, older one I borrowed from work. The graphics stunned me, they are horrible. No choice of stadiums, very few camera angles, terrible commentary (why aren't Mark Lawrenson and John Motson on the US version?), and the jerseys suck, not to mention the numbers are screwed up...just a hugely disappointing game. I waited all year for this one, my small hometown club was included and I had looked forward to playing them. I even ordered it in advance. I'm planning on returning my copy today. FIFA99 is head-and-shoulders above this poor excuse for a game.

I just read some other postings saying that the games speed slows down to a
more realistic speed w/ a faster cpu. Mine is only P200MMX w/ 32meg Ram.
Whats yours? If this is true then this could be whats causing erratic speed
with players and ball. Have you noticed that sometimes the players can run
faster than a passed ball, enough to intercept it? This could be a serious
issue if CPU speed is really affecting this game. Thanks for your replies : )
going to ask a friend if he could possibly strip and replace code from Fifa2000 to Fifa99....

Alright I'll take a shot at Fifa 2000 as well while I'm here. People this is the scenario I see with the game:

1) I bet anyone $10,000 that if you play the game at World Class level, there is not ONE SINGLE REAL FOOTBALL MATCH IN THE WHOLE WORLD THAT PLAYS THE SAME. What am I talking about? The speed of the game is absolutely too fast. It has become a game of counter attack after counter attack. The possession tactic that you can employ in the IMG IS ABSOLUTELY USELESS!

2) The only way I can win at World Class level is to use the 360 degree spin and hurdle (the alt and control buttons) to get past the last defender. In truth there are probably only 2 players in the world who can pull off this move (Denilson, Ronaldo). People this is the wrong way to win matches

3) I find it almost impossible to keep a clean sheet at World Class level against the good teams. Any team better than Olympiakos I find it a REAL STRUGGLE to keep a clean sheet. Jesus in my last match against Chelsea, I only managed to scrape home 6-5!!

4) Too many of the opposition's goals come from headers! Against good teams, it is almost impossible to defend crosses even though my defenders have a heading statisitc of 6! In my 6-5 match against Chelsea, all the goals conceded were headers. C'mon even ZOLA OUT HEADED MALDINI! This is totally wrong.

5) To make point 4 even worse, YOUR CROSSING is pointless. Somehow the opposition clears headers without probelms.

6) I can't scroll down the list on the transfer list.

7) Its too much like an arcade. This ain't football simulation!

8) Due to the above points, I really find the game repetitve. After playing one cup and one league, I usually wipe the game out.

Lets face it people, despite what people have said, the Fifa series is by no way close to a good football simulation. I think Fifa 98 was the best, with a huge improvement on 97, but ever since then it has slipped. Fifa 98 was probably as close as it got.

Hold on people!!!!!!

i played f'2000 on my friend's PIII 500MHz
128meg ram, 32meg TnT2 g/card, 72krpm HDD and its speed was TOTALLY different from my poor P200MMX w/o accelerator card on NORMAL. basically, it ran at a slower more realistic speed than it did on a lower end machine (by todays standards). This was something mentioned b4 by others but noone caught on to it. Why this happens I don't really know but my thoughts is that the engine is a bit chunkier now with all those extra player crowd animations that the cpu can't keep everything running at the same speed or proportion and so different things things run fast than others outside of the main action. For example players running around the field can make a crossed or passed ball slower and the plyers faster and vice versa. This might be a serious problem for us who are the majority of the fifa game market and who own lower end machines. i thought EA said they were making this game accomodating the knowledge that the majority of the PC home owner had a lower end machine. This just sucks. I played f'99 (here we go again, you say) last night and then f'2000. the latter was just stupidly faster on NORMAL gameplay. Anyone else?

i haf a way to make the characters look better n passing n tackling more accurate....jus customise yur ingame camera to minimum height n maximum zoom...in that way i think it looks much better
