Yesterday I wrote a review about my views on FIFA where I said that the game was as far from simulation as it could be.

Today I played PES3 demo released by Konami and my views changed. FIFA is not as far from simulation as it could be, PES3 IS!

I mean, the whole feel about PES3 is so arcadish! It reminds me of Virtua Striker on the SEGA console and in the arcade.

After few excrushiating matches on PES3, I gave up. FIFA is so much more fun! Both games are far from simulation, but FIFA is much more closer than PES is at the moment.

I sat around with my friend and laughed at PES3 just at the thought that this game was supposed to rival FIFA in realism.

Final verdict: Both games are far from football simulation, but FIFA is miles closer than PES3 at this stage.

PES3 == ISS3 - They are about the same game. Good arcade fun.

I dont hate fifa I do like it but PES is also a good game!

i do like both games. but pes is better for me..

plus, pes has handballs and headers that do not make contact, and u gotta play with another human player to bring out the best of PES..

What kind of crap talk are you saying ????? Pes 1 is 20 times better than FIFA 2004, Pes2 is 40 times better than FIFA 2004 and PES 3 is a 100 times better than FIFA 2004...and i think that FIFA 2004 had a HUGE progress regarding last editions of the game , but EA Sports will take about 10 years to equalize PES 1,
20 to equalize PES2 and about 50 years to even come close to PES 3...in all aspects of the game ( except in the licences issue...but KONAMI is making an HUGE effort to adquire those licenses to the next WE8/PES4 edition, who will blow, definitly, FIFA!!!!!:mrpimp:

I dont give a **** about the liscences. Yes, it would be better with liscences, but i sure can live without them.

Im not a person who gets attracted by nice colours, brands and celebrities in a game, Fifa has authentic liscnece, but pes has authentic gameplay, and thats what counts for me.

i think i agree somewhat with the last post...

i think winning eleven is much deeper in gameplay and value than fifa...

fifa has loads of licenses but the replay value is loads of bull...

i like playing both...each one with its advantages...

i hope EA corrected its mistakes in 2004...we'll jus have to wait n c...

anyways...i'll be gettin fifa 2004 for its online capabilities... and desperately waiting for winning eleven 7 here in the states...

They point of theis guys thread was not to debate over what was the better game but what gme is more simulation and what is more arcade..FIFA2004 is far more of a simulation than PES3.
However PES£ might play ..eh smoother so to speak..more fluid gameplay,,but its still more arcadeish compared to fifa.
SO it makes me laugh when people come on here and show how little they know about things when they say stuff like PES is far more of a simulation..lol then they go on about "oh i played football for 7 years","i watch football on the telly"..well guess what..join the rest of the entire male population of europe then pal.

I'm interested to hear your exact arguments on why you think FIFA is more of a simulation than PES. The reason I ask is because I've only heard one or two other people ever say something like this, but they've never actually broken it down gameplay-wise point by point. I'd like to hear some specific gameplay reasons why you think FIFA is a more realistic interpretation of football...

Let me tell you something pal ive been playing fifa and ISS since before you sprouted your first pube. and for me iss 3 was the best game ever made in the history of mankind.
However since that game , EA has made bigger leaps in imroving there game and i for 1 dont have the brain of a intoxicated gerbil like yourself so i can apreciate when i see a good game and when i dont ..and fifa 2004 is a good football game. And the fact that you cant crasp this is to your detriment.
I cant wait to have a look at the full game of pes3 when its release cos the demo is just ugly man. but i will be hoping the full game works fine. However there is no online play for PES and for me this gives fifa 2004 a massive advantage when it comes to overall value of the game.

When your talking about what ones the more acurate simulation and i like the polite guy asked ill give my opinion on why i think fifa is more of a simulation and PES is more arcadish.

Well frankly it has been this way since th very beggining with these 2 games, When ISS first came out all those years ago it played very arcady,, like set lines the players had to move along when running, the ball always going to certain spots, passing and such was just not made to be like real life in order to make the game fun.
Fifa was much better at this time and had more freedom of movement and slicker passing when playing. not to mention the graphics where better withc added to the overall feel of the game.

I think these are basic principles that have carried over to this years games..PES3 animations look arcadish in there very nature and the movement still feels a bit like"go on the left line,turn 90degrees go down the right imaginary line".
this is all done to produce a more fun, and even tho it still feels arcadish you still get the good eb and flow of ia real football game..but its not quite a real football game its just the eb and flow of PES

Fifa on the other hand try and produce a game as close to the real thing as they can..the graphics,, the passing, the positioning, ..all of it adds up to a more simulated game than PES..i cant say exactly what makes it more of a simulation cos im not a computer proggramer.

But just playing the games it should certainly become aparent that PES3 is a very fun arcade football game
and fifa is a very fun football game that tries to represent the buitifull game as closely as it can
Perhaps is fifa focused on the fun aspect insted of the reality aspect then they would have a better game..perhaps not,,

So tho i have not said what game i think is better you all assume its fifa cos i think fifa is more of a simulation,, but this is not just an opinion of a fifa fan,, its a fact of ******* life

that might have been the dumbest post I've ever read. You try to argue against the world that FIFA is more of a "simulation" while pretending to have played PES. You offer no argument whatsoever, which leads me to be suspicious of your integrity.

I would conclude one of three things

a: you are a poor player and you have never watched 90 minutes of football (or you're 9 years old)

b: you've never played PES

c: you work for EA

there's no way a knowledgable football fan would come to your conclusions...when a real fan looks at both games, there isn't a doubt as to which one os more realistic and which one is the simulation...

What are you talking about? The players on rails feel has always been one of FIFA's weakest points and FIFA04 is no different. Why do you think they emphasize OTB so much? Simple, because the players never make diagonal runs. How often do you see a central midfielder in fifa04 move out to the wing? Never. On the very rare occasion one of your striker's moves out wide, watch the other striker, he will always be standing completely still on the edge of the area.


I thought net play may have made FIFA04 worth buying this year but with static players, robotic animations and the AI of the other players being so pathetic it'll just be a weird 1on1 online game that kind of looks like football.

Stats are great, especially when they're made up on the spot. Again, demo hasn't been officially announced or released and if you're trying to play the latest games on a direcxt7 card, expect problems.

No, I mean FIFA is an average game & average games aren't worth playing online or offline..Imagine if in online BF there were only 2 RL ppl playing and the rest were really shoddily programmed bots, then you could compare the online experience of BF to FIFA04 online.

I'd love to play online football against ppl from round the world, that has nothing to do with not wanting to play FIFA04 online.
I defintiely wouldn't pay a subscription fee to play FIFA04 online, that would be ridiculous (this is if the rumours are true, which seems likely as there's no direct ip support) .

ok, no I still don't know what you mean. If you mean ISS PE2 then yeah that game is a classic, miles ahead of anything else at the time. I played it not long ago and could see the similarities between it and WE7 but WE7 is better in almost every respect.

Not pessimism. For me, the game has too much wrong with it to be fun, simple as that. We disagree about fifa being a fun game, online or offline, I can deal with that.

Do you get a year for free? I've heard the US do but for Europe it's only 1 or 2 months. People really shouldn't be happy with EA asking them to pay full price for the game and then a monthly fee to provide what is essentially a lobby service.

Agreed, I hate EA and their money grabbing as much as the next person, doesn't stop me playing BF 1942 (if they introduced pay to play, then I'd be pissed).

Defintion of a computer game simulation? Recreating real life events realistically. In this the aesthetics take a back seat to the mechanics.
So for a football sim then, the most important things are how the players move(animations and off the ball running), how the ball reacts and how much control or involvement I feel when this is going on. Kits and licenses are nice but are not important in recreating 22 players chasing a ball round a park(though PES3 patched will look amazing :) ).
Under this defintion, IMO PES3 is a far better simulation than FIFA04.

However i still feel that the vast majority of people would see it like i do.

and nah you dont have to pay for the english online lobbies, well at least after a year, and all you have to do to get 60 extra days was fill in a quick form on the ea website.

This year however it will be the same as madden,ect with a game time card, just type your code in when you install the game and you will get a free year.

However i do think paying for games like fifa for an online lobby stinks, its ok for other games that are made for online and that WILL get improved with patches and stuff.

maybe i mis-understand you but from this sentence, (you put it alone) meaning this year is free not next year. So like if next year the product is not as good as this year, we might have to pay for the 04 lobby. Lobby is good for getting matches up (IMO)
