Obviously EA have done a rather ragged job at answering the many thousands of complaints about their latest tier on the FIFA ladder. And as far as I can see not much can be done because most of these problems are very exotic and probably come down to the small irregularities in each user's computer. Anyway I have compiled a small list of possible culprits that may cause FIFA 2004 to crash while in the game. If anyone has this problem then this may help...

1. Are you running ATi drivers? A lot of the time disabling VPU recover from the ATi Advanced Display settings may solve the problem straight away. However do this with caution and only if you know what you are doing. If this helps then you can blame the latest ATi drivers.

2. If this does not help (or if you don't want to mess with VPU) then upgrade your ATi driver to catalyst 3.9.

3. If you are already on 3.9 then try re-installing the whole thing. Sometimes this clears it up. Then again it could be a waste of time - but it never hurts to try.

4. If 3 & 4 fail then it might be a good idea to revert back to your original drivers that you got with your card.

5. This is always a good idea. Scandisk all your drives then de-frag and then scan everything with Symantec or Norton AV03 with all the latest virus updates. If you have a virus then this will certainly fix the problem (if it is virus-related of course!).

6. If you have flashed your BIOS recently (or ever) then this has been know to cause some problems with ATi video cards. This is a long shot but if nothing else works and your just about ready to format then you might as well unflash your BIOS.

7. A lack of power to your 3D card can also cause it to lock up and get the following error message "VPU has reset your graphics accelerator..." You might need to get a 550W PS.

8. Get rid of fast-write in your BIOS. (or simply put it on optimization default).

If this list doesn't help or you have tried them already then it could be down to your computer hardware. Anyway, if you are desparate then format and If your computer still crashes buy a new video card or upgrade completely!
