View Full Version : How good does CM 03/04 run for you + Specs thread
shokz 23-11-2003, 03:26:AM Just out of curiousity.
Athlon XP 1.8ghz
512 DDR
(CM does not require a Graphics Card)
Small DB - Faster than a Cristiano Ronaldo dive, just like the Demo(Which was Small DB)
Medium DB - Ok, good enough for me(Surprisingly)
Large DB - Worser(Unsurprisingly)
I might upgrade soon anyway, cpu's are going dead cheap these days. :ewan:
marc_angelus 23-11-2003, 03:43:AM spec:
athlon xp 2800+ (2.1ghz/333mhz)
1gb ddr400 dual channel (800mhz)
i'm using Large database (still no Freddy Adu though :( ) with 10 nations, 20 leagues, but only 1 league on full detail (England)
i started playing about tea time today, and now about 4-5 hours later, ive still not made it into August! The game is so damn slow, and there aren't even very many matches for it to process during june and july, so i think it may be unplayable when the seasons start!
shokz 23-11-2003, 03:51:AM :funny: @ Readme file.
The recommended system requirements are as follows:
CPU:
P3 1000 (or higher)
RAM:
256 Mb (or higher)
:funny:
It should be miles higher than that.
I have less than 1 Gig of Processor speed, like 833 or something
192 RAM
5.56 GB capacity hard drive
I only run one, two or three (max) leagues on full database and it runs reasonbly well, I am a slow player as well, no seasons in one night for me more like 6 months.
NOTE: This is from Cm4, I take it, 0304 is a tad faster?
champdave 23-11-2003, 04:01:AM We updated our comp: (bear in mind we can put loads in, there are 2 processor bays, lots of bays for ram, cd-r etc)
Processor - 2x Intel P4 3ghz
RAM - 2056mb DDR Ram at 266mhz
Hard Drives: C:/ 20gb
D:/ 20gb
E:/ 100gb :o
CD Drives: F:/ Sony DWU14A DVD/CD R/RW ROM drive
:rockman:
G:/ Systemax 16x DVD Drive
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 128mb w/TV Out
Sound Card: Creative Soundblaster Audgy 6.1
etc.etc. (what a computer (H) )
I play on maximum database w/10 leagues and it is very fast. If there are no matches on a day, the day will pass in about 5 - 10 seconds.
On our laptop:
Processor: Intel Pentium III, 1.3ghz
RAM: 240mb :$
Hard Drives: 20gb, 10gb and 10gb
CD Drives: Systemax DVD/CD-RW combo (not DVD-R)
I run the 10 leagues and max database (as I copy the game down here to play on it at night as my brother sleeps in the other computer room :kader: ) and it is quite slow, perhaps if there is a week of no matches it will take 5-10 minutes to pass.
The demo runs prety fast, only when it simulates games it takes a long time. But thats becoz full detail is on for the english quickstart.
My Pc... 2.5 years old(supposed to be a "supercomputer" back then) the best Mobo Asus could offfer back then, a P4 1.7 cpu (slightly overclocked now) RAM PC2100 640MB, SCSI HDD, Sb Live 5.1, and a Gf2 Ti card. I can play CM4 with reasonable(satisfying) speed using full database and 3 or 4 leagues selected

indeed.. you should buy a decent gfx card, then it would be fecking awesome! that fx 5200 must be a serious bottleneck for a dual 3ghz pentium 4 with 2gig ram!
PaPaGeorGeo 23-11-2003, 09:01:AM Hmm
1.3 Ghz Duron
256meg Ram DDR
Runs 3 Leagues for me fine on Medium Database
ralfwiggum 23-11-2003, 09:48:AM tips on how to make cm03/04 run a little more smoothly taken from SI's site....................
(1) Select fewer leagues
Each league you select requires processing to update, selecting fewer will make the game faster.
(2) Don't have active leagues are 'full detail'
Full Detail leagues take much longer to process matches then non-full detail leagues.
The only visible difference to a user between the two is the fact that you can't watch matches from non-full detail leagues in 2D.
NB. If your main league is non-full detail then all competitions your team is active within will still be simulated in 'full detail', however competitions your team isn't active within won't.
(3) Drop the database size down
The more players active in the game the slower it is, hence dropping the database size will increase the game speed considerably.
The largest effect for this is when you drop down from 'large' database size - as this has around 3-4x more players than the medium database size setting.
(4) Turning off virus checkers
Some virus checkers analyse files when they are modified this can slow down game processing considerably.
NB. You can normally just ask the virus checker to ignore specific directories (ie. the CM one) rather than turn it off totally, this is recommended.
Ripping of Marc Duffy, that is low.:hump:

No, it's a good card, but it's the one that came with the computer. We have ordered a "ATI Radeon 9800 Pro AGP8X 128MB DDR with TV-Out + DVI" (exact name from the site for you :) )

ah that's better. personally i would go with an FX 5950 but the Radeon 9800 pro is proven to be on a par with the top end Geforce FX cards.
Out of interest, is this a home pc? From the spec it sounds like a midrange server, and must have cost an absolute fortune!
PS Sorry for going off topic, can't help being a computer geek sometimes..
ATIs 9xxx series are proven to be much better than Nvidias Fx series cards. The best card (performance/cost) is Ati 9600XT
champdave 24-11-2003, 02:28:AM It is a desktop PC, but with a lot of bays and extra storage space. It is an NEC computer. (the best!)
.::John::. 24-11-2003, 03:33:AM How much did it cost? (if you don't mind telling us that is)
Sky Reloaded 24-11-2003, 12:36:PM P3 800ghz
256 SD-Ram
20 GB HD, 1.5GB free space
Running 1 League, Small database, no probs. Next time I will try 3-4 Leagues, Medium database.
Only thing thats annoying, is the damn data editor takes 5 minutes to load and save database, but everyone has this problem
champdave 29-11-2003, 03:16:AM Our comp cost £1K three years ago. Extra parts add up to about £700. (we get them on the cheap as Dad works for NEC in France :p )
