So the DVD version has more scenes in it and is longer because of that? THat's bad, movi-makers just want people to watch a movie and then buy it agian for dvd:kader:

Hakeem
20-12-2003, 05:53:AM
yeah, just like the other 2.

its not his entire fault, the studio just wont release a 4hrs plus movie. only true fans would go. so they make him cut scenes and then he can put those in the dvd.

Mauricio
20-12-2003, 05:57:AM
if they added that part they would need like 40 extra mins. and maybe some people would get bored(not me), i read the trilogy 2 times and a very good adaptation , few details i hated like 20 minutes of crying but i give an A+ to this movie. And the guy that made the role of Sam he was great!!

Ive heard some critics like they skip some "impotant" details, but i think you go to the movies to relax not to get confused, very dificult to make a movie of any book but spetially LOTR

And every one that hated when always Aragorn,Gandalf,Sam,etc. "saved the day" and all the main characters finish the quest alive, read the book ;)

Hakeem
20-12-2003, 08:42:AM
Ive just started reading RotK and for Ive heard, the part with sarumans death in the shire is important, but I think that if it'd be in the movie, it would've been kind of consfusing, cause it happens after the climax of the battle and aragorn's crowning, and make another fight after that would've been too much.

I think the theatre's cut is great. they also missed eowen and faramir hooking up but its ok. the relashionship that mattered was aragorn's and arwen's.

Lord of The rings (I do count it as a whole movie) is now my favorite of all times :rockman:

Help?
20-12-2003, 11:19:AM
I haven't seen it yet and i already know that it's gonna be atleast the best movie of the decade. And btw from now on, i am getting a DVD version for all 3 movies.
Just one question, there is a special DVD player needed for it or not? Or i can just insert the CD into my computer and enjoy?

I saw this yesterday and i have to say it was a very good movie... I've only read FOTR and TTT so it was a bit weird seeing the Shelob scene like half way thru this but i guess it was the best way to portray the story for the film. The visual effects were amazing and the acting was good. Generally a good film all round:)

longest 3 hours of my life... extremely disappointed

maybe it's because I watched it at 10pm and it finished at 1:30am and I was just tired and cranky, but I hated this movie.. 75% of it was put in slow motion, and if it wasnt, the movie would probably be about 2 hours

it took FOREVER to end... every time you think it's over, a new scene pops up, that happened for 15 minutes.. 90% slow motion :kader:

and is it just me or does anyone else ****in HATE Frodo? :|

what a waste of $14... I could've been at home sleeping or something

yes i agree with you. for all the freakin hype this damn movie got it SUCKED:kader: . That was 3 and a half hours of utter crap lets just say. The story was so predicatable, it was slow as you have said, and it never ended:f***: omg i as just about to leave the theater at the end because it took so freakin long to end. I only liked the special effects and those ghots where freakin tight:mrpimp: ( they raped that one big ass elephant lol ). But over all i give it 2.5 out of 5 starts. For anyone that is about to watch it ... dont it aint worth your money just wait for 1 dollar theater to watch it or till it comes out on movies.

Overall this movie was a dissapointment:( i would tell everyone not to waste there movie on this movie.

Also that damn Smegal or watever was so freakin anoyying somone should of capped his ass:| dman anoyying little basterd. And yes Frodo is stupid as well

So to sum it up this movie was CRAP.

you guys are crazy. first of all, it would be predictable only if you had read the book and knew what was coming.
and the pace was the same as in previuos movies, so maybe if you didnt like the others then why watch this one, after all, its just one whole big movie.

and about the endings, its all nessesary, in fact, more endings have to be added in the extended edition, as you still dont know what happens to gimli and legolas (they end up going on adventures together in the book) and also eowen andfaramir (they end up romaticaly together) and also with aragorn and arwen after they're established as king and queen. not to mention the end of saruman.

so, if dont want to know all those things, then it means that you didnt care for the story, so why go see it? to see the effects. go see matrix again for that.

LotR is about the story and its one of the best of all times. Im just sad that after having news and rumours about the movie and lotr stuff for almost 5 years, now its over :( :( :(

ps: in fact it'll be over or 'paused' in between the release of the extended DVD and when peter jackson gets to make The Hobbitt :rockman:

Help?
23-12-2003, 03:23:AM
I liked the first movie on special effects. The second one was kind of boring for me, but after i decided to read all 3 books and read them before ROTK, then i liked it. I think the problem for you guys is that you don't really understand the plot and why something happens and where does something appear form, that makes a movie really boring.

Hakeem
23-12-2003, 03:29:AM
nah, that scripting the books was a really hard (alomost impossible to make it good) job, but they did it excellently.

if you check their interviews in the dvds, you understand the changes they made from the book, even if you didnt like them.
the story ended up extremly well with minor cuts from the books and that's what matters. plus with the extended editions you get to see all the other stuff thats missing.

as I said, it was the same pacing in the 3 movies, so you must've noticed the sometimes slow motion in the other movies too.

and for the ending, if you read what I wrote, its all about ending the story for all the different characters. and more werent shown.
you didnt care for them, so you didnt like the multiple endings.

but hey, im not gonna change your mind so whatever, I know I loved it. peace :)

The problem is that, those who didn't read the book, didn't know when the movie will end and will think that it was boring, but those that read the book knew perfectly when it will end, so it was a great movie for them

Joe
27-12-2003, 08:01:AM
Well, I read the books and didn't know exactly HOW they were going to end it. So it was kind of suspensful when they would fade out those three times not knowing if it was how they would end it. I thought they might have left a few things out but was happy they put it in at the end. I think the whole Scouring the Shire chapter would have ruined the effect the movie created once Sauron was defeated and the ring destroyed.

Hakeem
27-12-2003, 10:19:AM
they should.

cold mountain is the only other movie capable of getting the award but I think that both the movie and peter jackson will be rewarded this year. its the end, its a whole big movie and it has to be rewarded having in mind that its a massive worldwide success, has made new standards for movies in terms of effects, and they havent rewarded it yet (and jackson didnt even get nominated last year).

so for me, it has to win the best picture (though I have yet to see cold mountain) and best director.

Seen all three of them at the movie marathon sunday night... went for 10 hours and was apparently the longest in history according to the cinema manager... haha..

The first one was alright, bit boring, the second was good, the third was great.

They seemed to get better, the fight parts in all the movies were excellent. I liked the war in the second movie the best, how the wizard comes up over the hill with all the others and the claim victory (H) really awesome.

And when the wizard uses his power (he should have done this more) while riding his horse to get rid of the the flying dragon thingies is also cool (H)

The war in the third movies is really good, when they are fighting for the city and the pirate ghosts come and invade and win it for them. Really awesome. :)

I thought it was weird how it had about 5 different endings at end of the third movie though... It was like they got in about 5 different alternative endings then chucked them all in together lol. But I guess thats just the way it goes in the books and all, so it was sorta good. But I havent read the books so I dont know, but I still enjoyed the movies.

Good movie none the less, not the GREATEST EVER, some parts were boring, but the action parts were fantastic. :)

I was surprised I stayed awake throughout all the movies though... I slept all day and night monday though :p :)

Got to see it last night with one of my best friends. He had never read or seen either the Hobbit or the first two parts of the triology. He was lost and kept bugging me with questions. Anyways I'd have to say that this was probably the second best in the triology. I liked the Two Towers better. Best part for me is when Pippen sang the song and it flashed to Faromir leading his meager forces into battle. The Minos Tirith battle didn't compare to Helms Deep for me. However, I still loved the movie even with my annoying friend bugging me.

Help?

That sucks i have only seen the Two Towers in the theatre once and i remember almost nothing form it. I can badly remeber the battle in there, that's why i can't compare the those two battles. Yeah when Pippin sang a song it was pretty good moment, but i should say that the best for me was when the those 3 went to the Paths of The Dead and met those dead ppl there.

this is the only one ive seen but it was excellent.

The last 30 minutes werent really needed.

The bit when they all bowed to the hobbits, was the best bit. Brought a tear to my eye

I was there the day after Boxing Day (was at the cricket on Boxing Day) and the service was crappy, took half an hour to get a small popcorn, priced at $5.00!!!! It's small for bloody sake.

As for Samwise Gamgee... he's the man! His character went through the biggest changes from the first film.

As for the long ending, well the 3 films are meant to be one, a half hour ending is quite short for 8 hours+ of film.

One thing that bugged the crap out of me.... why doesn't Legolas run out of arrows?

Hakeem

he actually did run oput of arrows in Two Towers and then he used his little swords for a while before collecting more arrows.
didnt happen in this one but show it again? I guess it was ok.

Overall, I think the 3 movies are very good, the last is my favorite one, I just saw it and the battles are amazing. The ending is way too happy, but I guess that's how the book ends but I would have been cool if Frodo died or something like that.

Great movie and Legolas is da man!!:rockman: (although is a Link ripoff)

Ok, so I watched it this tuesday and still think about it all the time.

I'm a late LOTR fan; I remember everybody going to the theaters for the first two episodes of the saga and not really understanding the excitement, and my friends talking about dwarfs and orcs and thinking they lost their minds somehow. What's up with them, I thought? Kind of expected it to be a grown up version of Harry Potter, since I didn't even know the books.
I finally saw TFOR 3 months ago, on DVD, but fell asleep midway through it. I said to myself I was right all along. Eventually, a friend of mine lent me the extended DVD one week later. I gave it another chance, but first saw the making of included in the aforementioned dvd, which allowed me to understand where Tolkien was coming from and what he intended to do with his story. Strangely, the film seemed much more interesting in this second showing, and I felt anxious to watch the second movie.
The same friend gave me a VHS copy of ttt the next week. I went out that day, spent all night with friends, and the feeling that I had to see this movie started kicking in. Drove home at 1am and saw the entire thing. One of the best movie experiences in my life. I don't know if that night really changed me, but certainly turned me into a LOTR inconditional fan!

Where was I? Oh, so the Return of The King. I'll only say that we're very fortunate to have watched the best movie saga of all time in our youth! These 3 are the movies of our lifes. In 20 years time they'll still be admired and looked upon as a landmark. Perhaps like the Lucas' Jedi trilogy, but better in every aspect we can think of (except talking robots...)

Oh well, now I'll have to wait for the 3 films DVD box. I'm sure they'll release one sooner or later.

Sorry for the long and boring post. Take care!

Hugo
