What I know it is possible to curve the shots...but I don't know how.

I have an Microsoft Sidewinder Freestyle Pro.

Hope someone knows...

PS. It is possible too manage without them ( curve shots)but it maybe would increase the chances of scoring long rang shots..

To curve your shots, you must press left or right direction once you shoot. For freekicks use for skill keys to add ball spin in either direction. Hope this helps you.
