David Beckham has been voted the sexiest man on the planet with one in five people globally rating the football star as their number one hunk.

The Real Madrid star and England captain beat strong competition in the form of Hollywood actors George Clooney and Ben Affleck to take the title.


But it seems his popularity varies markedly around the world. Twenty per cent of respondents to the Durex poll picked Beckham as the sexiest man alive and while 55% of Vietnamese nominated the star, that figure dropped to just 2% in the US.

Clooney scored 15% of the vote and was most popular with Italians, while Ben Affleck, with 13% of the total vote, was a big hit in Germany.
