View Full Version : PLAYER OF THE YEAR IN ENGLAND!
PhilWalsh 27-04-2000, 08:31:PM it will be anaunced soon i think...but who will it be and who deserves it.
paulo di canio?
thiery henry??
my vot goes to roy keane he has been defenately the most impressive player this season(he has scored 5!! goals in the CL from defensive role)
i know people will say yeah but he has a bad temper and is very aggresive well my answer to that is that if he wouldn'd be like this he would not be half the player he is.
he is not my vote because i am a manutd fan but because of his commitment.
although i must say paulo di canio and henry have been very impressive.
oh i nearly forgot gerard houllier is my manager of the year because he has made liverpool tilte contenders again.what do u think???
Drinky UKSN 27-04-2000, 08:43:PM List of nominees must read as follows:
Kevin Phillips
Paolo Di Canio
Sami Hyypia
Thierry Henry
Paul Scholes
I don't rate Keane enough - as a motivator he is superb, but as a player he is not as good as Scholes.
kramer81usf 27-04-2000, 10:36:PM kevin phillips no doubt
antithesis 27-04-2000, 11:51:PM I agree with the author of the post. I personally believe Keane is the only exceptional player in the premiership. I also think that Vieira, Desailly, and DeGoey have had a pretty good season. Phillips probably deserves mention but he doesn't impress me as the season's dominant player. That's why I vote for Keane. Someone needs to comment about that Scholes is better than Keane thought. I am tired of so doing.

PhilWalsh 28-04-2000, 02:01:PM I must agree that paul scholes is a great playerof which u might say he deserves more respect but i still think keane this year has been superb.although scholes is a tuff little nut too but he just hasn't played as welln as keane has.
the thing about philips is his consistant performance.lets see next year if he scores so many goals again although i must say he is a very good player but alot of credit must go to quinn who makes phillips a good sriker like yorke does with cole...
steve-e-o 28-04-2000, 10:15:PM Top 5 (In ascending order....)
5. Freddy Ljungberg (Great buy for Arsenal)
4. David Beckham (I don't like him, but he never stops working)
3. Shaka Hislop ('keeper of the year 'til his leg broke)
2. Kevin Phillips (damn)
1. Alan Shearer
Not one other person has mentioned the man who is Britain's top scorer, even after being on the wrong side of a certain derranged Dutch gentleman last summer.
I have resisted the temptation to enter Nobby Solano and Keiron Dyer, who are certainly in the top 10
blink182 29-04-2000, 11:56:AM Here's my top 5:
5. T Henry
4. R Keane
3. A Shearer
2. D Beckham
1. K Phillips
Canoe 29-04-2000, 01:38:PM Excuse me, but I've already seen a shortlist of Player of the year, and here it is
Shortlist for the PFA Player of the Year:
Harry Kewell (Leeds United)
Roy Keane (Manchester United)
Andy Cole (Manchester United)
Kevin Phillips (Sunderland)
Alan Shearer (Newcastle United)
Sami Hyppia (Liverpool)
Shortlist for the PFA Young Player of the Year:
Harry Kewell (Leeds United)
Michael Bridges (Leeds United)
Lee Bowyer (Leeds United)
Robbie Keane (Coventry City)
Joe Cole (West Ham United)
Steven Gerrard (Liverpool)
My vote for the 123 will go as follow
Player of the year - Keane(1),Phillips(2), Kewell(3)
Young Player of the year - Kewell(1), Gerrard(2), Bridges(3)
Antithesis, did I not tell you that Scholes is better than Keane ??Hehehe, you know the argument, I'm not gonna bring it up again.
I'm sorry Philwalsh, there are many good striker partnerships but don't credit Quinn for making Phillips good. It's like trying to say that Ferguson makes Shearer good. They form a good strike partnership but Shearer is good, as is Phillips, as is Cole. Maybe you should rather credit Phillips for blending in well with Quinn and forming a good partnership.
antithesis 29-04-2000, 03:39:PM Now that I am living in Tobago! I have changed my opinion. Player of the year
Yorke

Keane
Young player of the year http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/frown.gif2001)

Kewell the Jewell 30-04-2000, 04:47:AM Umm....canoe has brought some sense into this post...
No one had even mentioned Kewell and Hyypia??????????
what going on here!?!?!?!?!??!
PhilWalsh 30-04-2000, 06:43:AM I would just like to confirm that keane has been anounced as FOOTBALL WRITERS PLAYER OF THE YEAR the PFA Award will be anounced soon but keane is also hot favourite to win that one too....
Canoe 01-05-2000, 11:04:AM Damn, three out of three for me then, just got the youngsters a bit mixed up.
PhilWalsh 01-05-2000, 07:47:PM Yippie keano has won both awards (PFA & FWA)
i think that he really deserves it.
Kewell won the young player of the year award and I think that he is a superb player(e.g. watch the goal against sheffield wed. and u know what I mean)
Its just a pity that he isn't english im sure he would solve englands left sided problems....
Kewell the Jewell 02-05-2000, 02:20:PM Hehe hes an auusie!!!!!!
woooohoooooooooo!!!!!!!!
PhilWalsh 03-05-2000, 08:07:AM can anyone tell me where i can download the goal by harry kewell against sheff. wed.???
thanx in advance
phil
Sella 05-05-2000, 10:59:PM Are you guys kidding me?
There was no doubt Keane was going to get it; and he damned well deserved it.
First, the ECC (yes, I know it's not about it, but still) : Keane pretty much single handedly pulled United to the quarterfinals...how many goals did he score? 6? 7? Jesus...And one game without him (R. Madrid, 2nd) and United collapse.
Keane is the heart and soul of (the best team in England this year) Manchetser United, not to mention the best player. WIthout him, as I've said, Manchester pretty much collapses...
It's no surprise that the Players and the JOurnalists BOTH picked him...
There's only one Keano!
PAOK F.C. Fan 06-05-2000, 09:23:PM Umm, excuse me, Sella, but you seem to have got some things wrong. Keane single footedly pulled United OUT OF the semifinals...
