Hey I saw the new Red Henry Mercurials today and 'wow' they're spectacular, I also saw the newish darky/red colour, they're really nice and shiny, lovely. Anyway I've noticed that Nike have assigned the new mercurials to a couple of players, Red to Henry and Blue to Ronaldo, Who'se Black goin to??? But what i'd like to know is will there be an R9 on the inside of the new blue mercurial tongue..... I hope not!

It's ok but kinda off putting for me. If im gonna spend the money to get the best boots, I love them to be like all the other mercurials, with both ticks on each side, i'll probably end up getting them even if they have the R9 but I was just wondering

I thought they looked stupid! The blue didin't go with the Real white.

Yeah SOLO, weird eh, you would of thought Nike would of given Ronaldo first choice in the colour (maybe they did) but they could of offered more colours to him, like a metallic silver/black/white to go nicely with Real's kit, it looks lile they've done this for Henry, the reds go perfectly with Arsenal's kit, maybe because Arsenal's kit is Nike and Real's is Adidas, hmmm

the r9 is just ronaldo's line of shoes. i dunno if the blue ones are his line.

and as for the colors and players, i doubt their given first choice, second choice. i'm sure it works just like for basketball players. nike/adidas/puma/etc reps. just show them a bunch of shoes and they pick whatever they want or like or feel like wearing for that game.

I can't wait to see Ronaldo wearing those boots with the away kit. Those stripes and the boots have almost the same shade of blue.(H)

Still think they should of made a specific colour for Ronaldo.. But what also annoys me is that Nike advertise all their things by their players right, and some players are sponsored and get paid like Ronaldinho etc and I think some just get free gear, but whats so annoying is that you cant buy the stuff! I donno bout us but not here! I went to the nike shop down here, nothing, just fake mercurials, I go to a shop in town and they have a few different colours, but no blades, damn nike how do they make money if they dont sell their stuff? Oh btw I found a finger sleeve (previous henri camara topic) their in shops :p

Well i saw the silver ones Ronaldo used to wear before the blue mercurials, if they werent the one he used, it was pretty much like it. Here in Brazil it costs 528 R$...:f***: It would cost a little more than 100 Dollars i guess.

almost all athletes that endorse a brand get free ish. man, they get to come to niketown and grab whatever they want.

as for not being able to buy the stuff, i think a lot of the newer shoes haven't been released yet. and sometimes, they're just player exclusive. nike, adidas, etc will still sell their ish.

But why not make them available to the whole uk and release then when the players first wear them, that's what sells eh.

taht's just how they do things. it's the same with basketball shoes. you see jordan wearing his shoes but they won't be available til a few months later.

they need time to market the product. let henry or whoever wear the shoes. create an awareness and anticipation for it. then they need to mass produce them, package them, and send them to retailers and wholesalers. and there's the buzz on shoes being limited and "player exclusives."

simple marketing, really...

I suppose Jedi but, why not market them etc etc and get it sorted before Henry even wears them, and then let him wear em for a couple of matches then release them?

trust me dude. for my marketing class, i wrote a term paper on sports endorsements.

well..i'm sure they've started the marketing plans before henry wore them. was the inter match the first time he wore those red ones? see when you want to show off a shoe for the first time you want to show it off with a bang. unexpected. if you see it in ads for the first time, yea it's cool. but if you see a player actually wear it and it's the first time you've seen it, it's like daym. it creates a buzz. that's why you see basketball players showing off their new shoes or colorways for the first time during allstar weekend. remember cwebb's chrome dadas?

anyways...i'm sure they've started the marketing plans way ahead. but who knows. maybe they wanted to launch the marketing after they've shown it off first. or maybe they wanted to see people's judgement or see what they thought about it first. i mean, i dunno. i could be totally wrong. that's how it's worked with bball shoes. i'm sure nike knows what they're doing, and i know they've done the other method, which was what you said. peace.
