On Saturday the Metrostars will be playing their first game of the season against San Jose. I'm just curious if you guys think that NY/NJ will be able to make have a turnaround season with the German here.

Here in the US I haven't gotten the chance to really see him play since I don't have Fox Sports World (which I desperately want).

The MetroStars as a whole received a face lift, so you can't really say that because of Matthaus the MetroStars will improve. However, I do acknowledge that the play of Matthaus is essential for the MetroStars to have a good defense, if they decide to play him in the back (the MetroStars are loaded with defender).
I like San Jose's strikers (Cerritos/Azizi) and I can't wait to see the game. I think I'll go for San Jose, although I like both teams

I think it is ironic that you guys both are mentioning the two worst teams in the MLS as being interesting or good. The Metrostars have a good defense, but that's it, I looked at their roster and they have almost no one else who is any good and Tab Ramos is coming back from injury. San Jose is even worse. Those two strikers may do alright, but no one else on the team looks like they are any good. The best teams besides stupid DC, that I have seen are Chicago, Columbus, and Colorado(the big C's). (Ironically, these teams lost last weekend)

I thought the first game was vs. Miami? I do think Matthaus(he'll probably be playing central mid/playmaker role) will help only if the people playing up front(Valencia/Chung) can score the goals. Otherwise it will be just like it was when Donadoni was here, which was dreadful.
He will not as much of a difference as Stoichkov, who is both younger, and plays the goal-scoring position.

What is true is that he will upgrade the American League

Still, both he and the other recent transfer, Adolfo Valencia are both 35++. Valencia used to play for PAOK in the beginning of the season, but he was NOTHING like the Colombian super star he was 10 years ago.

Valencia is only 31. And I think he'll do well in MLS..

The Metrostars' first game is against Miami, and it is on Sunday, not Saturday. I'm not really looking forward to this game. The game I want to see is the Galaxy vs. DC United. I can finally enjoy a game between these two teams because the Galaxy isn't in the central conference with the Fire, so I don't have to worry about the result.

Wow, you're right Firefan. I got some bad info about the date. Sorry.

Anyway, the DC vs Galaxy game is about to start on ABC (wooo). Great to see a big channel like this supporting soccer considering the low opinion of it by the general public. Can't wait though, and hopefully this will be the breakout year.

THERE IS NO DOUBT IN MY MIND THAT MATTHAUS WILL MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE FOR THE METRO STARS!!!...The real question is whether his absence from Bayern will make as big a difference for them.

despite his age he's still effing good.

Unless the heat gets to him he should do well.
