Chelsea bid for Henry rejected

Arsenal have turned down a formal bid from Chelsea for striker Thierry Henry.
Billionaire Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich made the offer at Highbury on Wednesday night, according to Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein.

"Henry is not for sale at any price - not to Real Madrid, not to Chelsea, not to any club," Dein told the Spanish sports newspaper As.

"Money is only good if you can buy another player as good as Thierry, but there is no-one in the world like him."

The offer was reported to be between ?0-50m by British newspapers on Sunday.

Dein added: "We know that Real Madrid are interested in our player and we know that Chelsea also want him because last week Roman Abramovich himself came to Highbury to present a formal offer for him.

"But we said the same thing we will say to Real Madrid if they present an offer, or to any other club for that matter, and that is that Henry is not for sale.

"He is the best. Henry is irreplaceable in every sense. If we sold him, we would weaken our team, strengthen the opposition and demoralise our manager, coaching staff and the rest of the team."

Henry, who was recently nominated for Fifa World Player of the Year, signed a new four-year deal with the Gunners at the end of last season.

Abramovich has already financed Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri's ?11m spending spree in a bid to bring the title to Stamford Bridge.

Players of the calibre of Hernan Crespo, Juan Sebastian Veron, Adrian Mutu and Damien Duff have already made an impact at the club.

However, Abramovich is planning more spending when the transfer window opens next month.

Earlier in the week, the agent of Juventus' Pavel Nedved revealed that Chelsea are tracking the Czech international midfielder.

Reports also suggest that Roma captain and Italy international Francesco Totti could be set for a move to London.

Well, that should scare off Real Madrid unless they'd like to pay 200 million for him.

yeah he and RVN are not going to leave. I think Real will end up getting Owen, if Liverpool dont make it to the CL there is a 70% chance he will leave, but at Real he will be under a ton of pressure to score.....

Well Real have Roberto Carlos but that's about it really, whereas Chelsea have quite a few good defenders, such as the likes of Terry, Gallas etc, but if chelsea are to buy more players they should try to invest in defense in my opinion...

yeah, i dont know why people say that terry played badly because he scored an own goal, its like saying gilberto playing badly for brazil for scoring an own goal, it was just an unlucky deflection off terry's boot and past the hapless cudicini, to put it short, it was not a deliberate own goal or an own goal that is not what you think

for Henry at this moment there is no price. selling him would mean finding a replacement-and that is currently IMPOSSIBLE;) . Just like Man U could never sell RVN

I don't understand why they would even bid...Chelsea have enough forwards, hell, Eidur would start anywhere else in EPL and is like 5th at Chelsea.

Yes exactly, so why people get pissed off with abramovich really baffles me :| You wouldn't mind if he bought your club and bought a few players, so the only thing that explains your anger is that you people are jealous:p Many other clubs would love to buy many world class players, its just that they don't have the finances to do that, whereas abramovich does...

And even then Roberto Carlos is a pretty bad defender. Real need a young, centerback. They should give it up already. As for Chelsea, it wasn't too long ago when even the players said that there was no need to buy anymore. Is Abramovic listening? :f***: :kader:

"I hate Roman" Quotes like that piss me off.

If Roman was at your club, doing the same thing, you wouldn't be complaining. Your just letting your jealousy talk. Your lieing if you said you would be agianist it if it happened at your club.

Theres nothing wrong with spending big money, I cant and neither should other Manchester United or Liverpool supporters complain about it.

I wouldn't be against it if he brought Ronaldo, Raul, Del Piero etc to the Premiership, as this would make The Premiership the best league in the world again.

But you should care when your best player who is arguably the best player in the world, is wanted by a billionaire, who would not hesitate to offer £100m for him I bet, also it would not surprise me to see him go for Ruud van Nistelrooy next.

Roman is only showing how weak Chelsea are upfront, otherwise there wouldn't be any need for another striker.

Spending big is absolutely fine, nothing wrong there, but he is trying to turn the English Premiership into a real-life game of monopoly by trying to get the likes of Henry if you know what I mean.

He'll try and go for Owen and Ruud next, I'm almost certain of it.

i agree, i'd do the same. just don't wanna see leagues becoming a monopoly. but, i think that's enough of the spending now-even the players have said so. i guess you are right, parma would feel the same.

Chelsea should do us a favour and send him our way. It's not like he's going to start a game for Chelsea anyway.

I do not have a problem with anything he does. It his money to spend. I would actually like to see Cheleski buy players because they are not in debt and can do so. Look at some of the other debt striken teams in the EPL. It is good that an owner can do this because if he doesn't bring new players to the EPL than who will. It is the domino effect. Chelesa buy a player so then they decide to sell or loan one of their players. Then the team who gets that player will loan or sell another player to another team. Him spending money helps all teams.

I really really hope Henry stays at Arsenal.

Abramovic has a lot of money and he thinks that he can do everything now.Well ,he can't.I think that no amount of money can take Henry away from the Gunners.
