If there's any coach on the North American continent that could take Canada to World Cup 2006, it's Yallop.
Also, the Quakes are screwed :)

pennington10 18-12-2003, 12:10:AM Unless Yallop plays then Canada is still not going anywhere fast. Last time I checked the Canadian National team had such great players as Tomas Radzinki and well just Tomas Radzinki. Oh wait I am fogeting the worlds best super star Emelio Bottiglieri. Pehaps the greatest canadian soccer player ever.
USA Supporter 18-12-2003, 12:30:AM Good move by Canada, but they still aren't going anywhere. :)
::shinji:: 18-12-2003, 05:08:AM some of you US fans are pretty cocky now, I'm old enough to remember when Canada used to mop the field with the USA in Soccer back in the early 80's. It's easy to make fun, but we do have a chance of making the WC. Obviously, the USA, Mexico, and Costa Rica are the favourites, but there's no reason why we wouldn't challenge for the third spot if we played well.
We also have other good players besides Radzinski....like Paul Stalteri (Werder Bremen) , Pat Onstad (one of the best GK's in MLS, no?) Dwayne De Rosario, and others who play in the English division one, which surely is a more competetive league than the central american one's.
We'll see..
PScott 18-12-2003, 05:11:AM Canada could very well be good. Shinji named some good players that could help, and they also have Guzman who plays for Bundesliga side Hannover.

Nice job living in the past. I remember this big war with England and France and Russia and the US. Boy was that something. Come on is the fourth spot from COMCOF still an automatic bid? If it is not you will lose in a play off aginst any other team from a stronger region or maybe the aussies
::shinji:: 18-12-2003, 06:26:AM shut up retard, nobody's living in the past. It was just a simple comment for f*ck's sake

Dont forget when we burned down the White House, that was ace. (H) :crazyboy:
Anyways Yallop was on the radio here and said he will go to all the player personally and ask them to help him get to the WC. Also the head office and a new training centre will be in Vancouver now. And he hinted at a new stadium soon at UBC. (H)
::shinji:: 18-12-2003, 06:36:AM There was alot of talk about a new soccer-only facilitybeing built in Hamilton as well. Personally, I like it when the NT plays in Edmonton, great crowd support and we always seem to have our best results there.
Shinji ...... Did you see that kid that plays for the U-20 team ? Hume ? man that kid is going to be good for Canada (H)
::shinji:: 18-12-2003, 06:39:AM yeah, Ian Hume! see the goal he scored against Spain?? what a cannon shot!
northstar 18-12-2003, 06:45:AM And hit the bar with free kick that could have sent us through. :(
rony31 18-12-2003, 06:49:AM ya, Iain Hume is gonna be something... as long as he doesnt move to England and play for them like a certain Bayern player

Yeah, Owen Hargreaves made a huge mistake by playing for England. If he played for Canada, he would be their best player. Hargreaves isn't even a starter for England. If Hargreaves played for Canada, I think their chances of qualifying for a WC would be a lot better. It isn't that hard to qualify out of CONCACAF, if they had Hargreaves they would have a small chance.
Run DMB 18-12-2003, 07:34:AM I sincerely doubt Canada can finish in the top 3 of World Cup qualifying. However, considering the suckiness (as of late) of Jamaica I could definitely see the Canucks sneak in an grab the fourth place. Then it will be a two-leg playoff for them and who knows what could happen there.
Like others before me pointed out Canada have other talented players than Radzinski like DeRosario who's an underrated forward in MLS and Onstad who's one of the two top goalkeepers in MLS. Those players combined with Canada's European-based contingent and under Yallop's management could make for a pretty decent team. I'll be anxious to see how this all works out.

He already lives in England; he plays for Tranmere Rovers.
I don't hold anything against Hargreaves for his choice. Canada is a joke of a soccer nation, especially in men's, and if I had a chance to play for England at the highest international level, then I'd do it, too.
Things are on the rise, though, a little, since we've gotten rid of Oseick and his horrible negative soccer. Colin Miller did a great job in the short time he was in there, having us actually play attacking, attractive soccer, instead of that bull**** Holger was preaching. We gave Finland a good run -- anyone see that game? -- and have attracted some of our better players back; i.e. Radzinski, Stalteri.
Yallop sounds like a decent coach. We'll see what he can do. THe problem in Canada is the development system, though; I know from first hand experience -- coach and player. It's utterly useless. I could write a book about it...I probably will.
I'm happy to see that they are basing both national teams and the youth teams in BC, though. Next to Quebec, we always have the best provincial youth teams, and it would be nice, with such a big country, to have a center which kept the teams interconnected through the years.

Yallop is more than a decent coach. I don't know if you're familiar with the San Jose Earthquakes but that team would be up sh*t creek without a paddle if it wasn't for him. Instead they've won two MLS titles in the three years he's been in charge. It's amazing how he turned around the Quakes and I believe he can do it for Canada as well.

Soccercentral has been saying great things about him and how he has made the team a top contender, by the way they talk about him ....... he should be a really good coach and he should definetaly help Canada to grasp or get close to grasping a WC spot from CONCACAF
northstar 18-12-2003, 11:14:AM Its just good to have a local person as the coach, rather than out of touch European coach. Especially one that is old school style of coach, yelling a lot and whatnot. That crap doesnt work anymore on people who grow up in Canada.

I know about the Earthquakes and their success under him. I've only ever seen a part of a couple of their games, though, and don't know very much about his abilities -- outside of results.
I know he'll be an improvement on Oseick, so there we go. I couldn't have cared less about any Canadian National Team the past . . . years of my life, but after seeing them play nice soccer under Miller, I'm prepared to get behind my country for once (in soccer).

yeah, the CSA has never really been wise in choosing a coach, and even less-wise when it's time to let them go. Osieck was a waste of time and money, Lenarduzzi (I give him lots of respect as a player) did nothing even though he was there for ages.

Agreed. They need to choose a coach based on coaching talent and abillity, instead of the thickness of their accent, or their one-time playing ability.
