Who thinks that a World Club Cup tournament would be great to have? Just like the World Cup but with club champions from all over the world including Europe, S. America as well as the U.S. Mexico, Africa, Asia and others. It could be played every 2 years inbetween and around the World Cup and other tournaments. It would be a great event in between the World Cup years. What do you think?

Do it right after the season in Europe is over. Single game elimination tournament with only the champions from each league taking part. Invite the champion teams from best leagues from rest of the world to take part, but limit the whole tournament to only 64 teams. If they want to play every three days the whole tournament would only take 2 weeks.

They should take the champions from the top 100 or so leagues each team would represent thier country only league champions would get in (meaning no England,Italy, ect. 2nd or 3rd place teams)these league champs would go through a few qualifying stages till it was broken down to 32 teams, the rest would be exactly like the world cup.

Coincidently I just read about this on the FIFA website...

Club World Championship in Brazil
Who will make history?

For the first time in FIFA history a Club World Championship is on the calendar - from 5 to 14 January 2000 in Brazil. Eight teams and dozens of the world's football stars will be competing in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo for the title of Club World Champions - and many experts see Manchester United as the hot favourites.

Manchester United (winners of the UEFA Champions League), Real Madrid (winners of the 1998 Toyota Cup), Necaxa (winners of the CONCACAF Champions Cup), Al-Nassr (winners of the Asian Super Cup), South Melbourne SC (winners of the Oceania club championship), Vasco da Gama (winners of the Copa Libertadores), Corinthians (champions of the host country), plus the champions of the African Confederation (which will only be decided in December) - these will be the eight teams taking part in the FIFA Club World Championship.

Brazil has been designated as host country for the first FIFA Club World Championship in the new millennium to be held from 5th - 14th January 2000.

The FIFA Club World Championship match format will be two groups of four teams with the group winners playing the final and the runners-up playing off for third place (all games played as Doubleheaders). The foreseen stadiums are the Maracanã Stadium (capacity: 100'578) in Rio de Janeiro and the Morumbi Stadium (capacity: 80'000) in São Paulo.

Sounds cool but not quite as exciting as what we are talking about here. And there's that AL Nassr team! Ahhh they're from Saudi Arabia (So I guess that means EA put 5 teams from Saudi Arabia on 2K!) If you had Necaxa, South Melbourne and the African team you could recreate this on FIFA 2K...

This should be a great tournament during the domestic league break, guesses on the final and the winner anyone?

Corinthians over Man U.
(homefield advantage!)

I think that a world club league would be great. It would make world football much more interesting. That world competition in Brazil sounds good, but including more countries' clubs and more groups [therefore more games http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif ] would really do the trick.
The problem, is fitting that into other competitions.

Manchester, or eeeer... Real (I wonder what coach they'll have then), should be able to win that Club Championship, IF they play well and have luck. It wasn't that easy for ManUnited to beat Palmeiras. So I wouldn't be surprised either if the winner is one the Americans (SOUTH Americans, of course). I hope Vasco can win that championship.

[as for Al Nasser: I think that if Portuguese, Czech and others want to see their teams in Fifa 2001... well we will just have to try to find some oil or pipe gas in our countries. It can't be that difficult, and I think that should satisfy those EA Sports people.]

Great idea, but there should be only 1 Club from each country and they should be put into random groups until you get down to 32 then play it like the WC finals.

The good thing is with FIFA having this World Club Championship this year they're moving closer to what we're talking about here. Maybe we'll see a World Club Cup in a few years. It will give S. American clubs (as well as others) a chance to prove themselves against European clubs. And maybe it will shut up some of the Italian fans http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif

I think that European teams won't be able to win this Cup because in January it's summer in Brazil and it's really hot. I don't think they will deal with that very well.
