View Full Version : FIFA doesn't reward true football skills.....
Solo Inter 23-12-2003, 12:54:AM I have found, playing online, that to be good you really don't have to be able to play a beautiful or even pretty game, as long as you get the shooting down (couple of yard outside the box, rip it past the keeper, ball goes so fast he doesn't even react) and play good defence, then you can win pretty easily.
When I'm playing, I am doing all kinds of awesome moves; sending guys down the lines, through balls over and on the ground, give and gos, crosses, beating players 1 v 1 using skill moves, it goes on and on......
Sadly, this often doesn't result in goals. Other guys I've played (some ranked really high) just kick the ball up front waiting for that break, or when they find themselves in front of the box...well you know whats coming next.
Often games will end with my posession over 70 percent, but with only 2 or 3 shots on goal. The opposition player will have like 15 shots with hardly any posession. Part of it is me not wanting to adapt to shooting from far out the whole game, its urealistic and unsatisfying. I refuse to play this way.
My sad conclusion, like many other previous FIFA's, you don't really need to understand dik about football to be good at FIFA. In a way, it makes the game harder the more you know about football (the more you try to implement real football into FIFA).
This is SOOOOOOOOOOO fustrating, anyone else finding this to be true?
:( :(
pennington10 23-12-2003, 01:06:AM I could not agree with you more. The games is about who can tackle each other quicker and not about passing or building up an attack. It is very untolerable to play on line because I like playing a realistic style and most people just care about winning online. Either on PS2 or PC. You are so right on this.
santino 23-12-2003, 01:31:AM what u guys dont understand is that its a GAME....
G-A-M-E!!!!.........its not going to be realistic becuz its a VIDEO GAME and all ppl care about is winning..............cmon guys.......think about what u post......
A GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes, your right...but basically they are saying its NOT a GOOD GAME..which it isnt
Beitarist 23-12-2003, 01:48:AM I agree ... I only played 2 games Online, it's not fun like playing against the CPU .....

I'm backing you up in this man... this is a sad reality :(
And Santino, thx for reminding us but we all here know dat this is a "only" a video game. Saying dat "its not going to be realistic becuz its a VIDEO GAME and all ppl care about is winning" is a very pessimistic, not so intelligent thought and we'll have none of it...
THeBh0y 23-12-2003, 02:35:AM Yeah i agree, I like to play real football as much as i canwith nice passing but it reaaly pisses me off when i play pople who do nothing but tap the shoot button all game?, worst of all they actualy think there good.
If i want to play against someone like that i will give my 2 year old niece a control pad and watch her her tap the buttons.
They skill-less people who use it could say that teams use long ball in real life...yeah but not like that and in real life your team could play with a sweeper at the back to "sweep" up the long balls, in this game you cant, so yeah i agree, whoever uses it is rubbish at fifa and wouldnt last 2min if they played the way it was ment to be played.
santino 23-12-2003, 02:46:AM i know what u guys are sayin, but u gotta realize not every1 here wants to play a "real" soccer game, i would want to too but i know there's ppl qho will pull out all the stops for a win............. all i can say is if u guys wanna play ppl who will play it "real", then u guys should play eachother. u all seem to agree on it.

now you're talkin'..... :clapwap:
champdave 23-12-2003, 04:37:AM OK but if it is a simulation of football surely it is supposed to have a degree of realism? It isn't an arcade game. :p
santino 23-12-2003, 05:02:AM yes i know, but that's not my problem, that's EA's.
theCRO 23-12-2003, 05:49:AM I hear you Solo, there is a game out there which rewards real football, the beautiful game...and if you play it real you will have an advantage...actually it forces you to play real...
pennington10 23-12-2003, 05:49:AM But FIFA can be realistic but players who press speed boost durning all the game are not smart. I mean if you guys want an arcade soccer game tell EA to make a 5 on 5 version of NBA Jam but just put a soccer ball in there.
Voltaic Borusse 23-12-2003, 06:11:AM Speaking of possesion of the ball, I usually get 70% posession and the other CPU team gets 30% . . .
but I was playing with Numancia a couple of hours ago and the posession differential was very close. Almost 50-50 for some reason.
DeTrimenTaL09 23-12-2003, 07:25:AM there is no such thing as a "lucky break" when u play people who do nothing but Kick the ball over and over and over hoping for it. You can simply stop this by doing 1 of 2 things... that is playing with a 5-4-1 Defensive to MAKE SURE they dont get by with Defense on "contain"
or..
u can quit the game :)
DeTrimenTaL09 23-12-2003, 07:30:AM oh.. and yes it does reward true football skills :) u just need to play better people in order to learn how to deal with noobs who kickball :)
HellsideUltras 23-12-2003, 07:59:AM i am guilty of playing kick ball style football in fifa against my friendsm i dont play online though. But thats because theres nothing better to do, the game is so repetitive that i decide to be repetitive in my playing style:kader: :kader:

kickin_kyle 26-12-2003, 08:13:AM FIFA doesn't reward true football skills.....
if you have true football skills you should be getting rewarded by a real team, true skills do not exist in video games
pronewbie 26-12-2003, 02:25:PM Pro Evolution Soccer 3 - Only if you have a good PC

I do and I am thanks!
Thanks for stating something that a 5 year old could figure out.:kader:
Idiot!
I'm to the point of not taking any sh*t here so any dumbf*ck comments like the one above gets f* all!:D
pennington10 26-12-2003, 07:57:PM You know the team with the most goals after 90 minutes is declared the winner or that is how I believe it works.
Terminator X 26-12-2003, 08:01:PM I totally agree with what your saying their solo inter, i always try to play nice football but its sooo hard to get in the box with it, my tip is to get to an atacking midfielder and bring it up with him, send a player on a run and play the through ball. another thing is that the computers defence always stays back way inside their own half so its impossible to break, fifa have got the wrong idea into their heads about what football is, build play this, build up play that, what a load of shat, all the best teams play counter atacking using their pace and ability to take people on, arsenal and real especially are great at this, and the brazilians.
Why cant ea realize this?
Though it is true that if you wanna play footy you should do it on grass/sand/etc.., not a screen!

:funpost:
Also, 3 pts. is awarded to that winner, and the team with the most points after a certin number of games is declared the champions.
NerazZurRo 26-12-2003, 10:36:PM That's why PES3 multiplayer is so much better. Too bad it doesn't have online play.
As for FIFA, yea my style of play hugely depends on passing, one-twos, triangles, skill moves etc... it's very satisfying when you're running circles around your opponent with all the one touch passing :mrpimp:
I also end up having only a few shots on goal but fortunately my defence is not bad, the key is to prevent your opponent from shooting once he's just outside your penalty box (because that's what most players depend on anyway)
This leads to me having lots of 0-0 and 1-1 draws, but i don't mind - if you don't concede goals - you can't lose ;)
Rodrigo_RJ 27-12-2003, 04:19:AM play pes3 and see the close reality
Solo Inter 27-12-2003, 04:26:AM Thanks guys, but I've played WE, yeah its light years ahead of FIFA as far as gameplay, but they need to get with it and go online next year.
When this happens, I will NEVER EVER consider buying FIFA again!;)
pantlessjim 27-12-2003, 08:55:AM many times when i play online (pc) and i am playing a person who is like this, the more i keep posession, the worse off they are. when they can't get posession, they get frustirated, and start commiting bad fouls, pretty close to the penalty area, which gives me numerous freekick/penalties per game. if you have more posession, and take quality chances, and play the offsides trap, you will be ok.
theworldgame 27-12-2003, 10:19:AM gameplay too repetitive
even with all these patches, the game, although there are some good improvements on last year, still is unrealistic and no real fun
why can't EA make the game in Europe or South America, where the people making and testing the game are actually those who play and watch the game in real life
the game is made to have more goals and be more entertaining to american audiences, so they make it direct on goal, with long range shots and fancy replays - just get the game to be made by brazilians and it will be alright
