Anyone here really think Roma have what it take to go all the way?

Capello is a great manager, and he has finally found a combination that works. The 3-4-1-2 has served Roma well so far. I hope I never see Juve with 3 at the back ever again.:kader: Totti is in form and I the defence are playing tight. Most importantly I am impressed with Mancini. He is a future legend. He can score, cross, defend.

I think one thing can pull Roma back from extended success, lack of $$$$$$$$

thats what causes 95% of clubs to lack of exteneded Success...thats why Milan and Juve have the most scudetto's obviously

I think Roma can win the Scudetto. They have a great team with some worldclass players - Samuel, Chivu; Emeron (underrated), Totti; Cassano.

And they are playing some entertaining football.

can they win the league title? i dunno...they're off to an unbelievable start. and unlike juventus or milan, they don't have to worry about the champions league and get to focus more on their league. but you can't expect any team to go on undefeated for the rest of the season.

one word - NO.

All of you are free to mark this post and rub it in if i'm wrong but Roma will fall hard.

Their first loss will mark the beginning of the end for them and after they start their downward decline, they are going to find it hard to finish in the top 3 even.

I hope they played in the CL this year instead of Inter or Lazio; At least we would have 3 strong Serie A sides.

They do have a great team and everything but for me, they are not capable of taking it. Milan are still Juve's main threat and vice versa.

Heres what will happen; Roma will lose right when they need it most; Sensi will start accusing the refs for helping Juve and there will be a controversial conclusion to the season with Roma being pipped right at the end.

they r gonna win

if they dont slip up totti and cassano can deliver

the defence is overall good

santino
23-12-2003, 07:48:AM
true, they probably will be defeated eventually, but they are playing amazing football, cassano has matured (a bit), totti is playing like he should be, the defence is unbelieveably solid, and mancini has been a great addition to this. Also, dacourt is probably having his best year, he is playing solid football........will they win the scudetto, hopefully......but u can only wait and see...........i could only imagine the praise capello would get if he was able to keep the unbeaten streak going.

Jedi Mind Trick
23-12-2003, 07:52:AM
that's very true. but i just don't know if they can keep this kind of pace all season long. they'll have to play nearly perfect to beat out juventus or milan, eventually when the season gets to an end.

yim87
23-12-2003, 07:59:AM
roma's defense is very solid.. 3-4-1-2 suits them very well.. they have a couple of midfielders who plays great defense in their squad.. tommasi, dacourt and emerson.. i will not be surprised if they can go all the way this season..

but **** sensi. as long as he's there roma's not gonna have any long-term success..

23-12-2003, 08:34:AM
i think they will win it becas their defense is i think one of the best in europe right now i mean they just dont get scored on like at all and totti is feeling it right now, i for one hope they do win it.

I think Roma will come in second behind Juve. If you saw the Milan vs. Udiese game on sunday you saw a team that did not want to play at all. Milan looks like they will just sleepwalk through the rest of the season. I think losing back to back against Celta Vigo and Boca in Japan took alot out of team and they will struggle to find their from again.

SB9Dragon
23-12-2003, 10:45:AM
Inter a weak side?? Ridiculous

Anywayz I don't think Roma can win it. Sure they may be cruising now, but its hard staying on top and going all the way. 1 mess up can cause catastrophe. Though I do believe they will qualify for the CL, so maybe a 2-3 or 4 finish....

My favorite to win?? Inter of course :mrpimp:

santino
23-12-2003, 11:11:AM
well inter have been struggling, whether u like it or not......i know they one 6 in a row, but there not playing very convincing, they dont look like the team that made it to the semis of the CL that's forsure, and ur sayin 1 mistake by roma???? currently, roma can make 2 mistakes.......lol, but right now, the only thing thats gonna stop roma is lack of practice over the break, they are having a great year, no1 can deny that!!!

well in all fairness, milan did just travel to and from japan in a matter of a few days. i don't think they'll struggle to find their form, i think they've had a rough schedule. playing 3 games in a week with one game in the far east would take a toll on any team.

He can do all of those except defend well. He has been contained when a good player has oppssed him in midfield.

Roma can do well if their key players dont get hurt, because they have the worst depth out of the top clubs. This is one of those years where scudetto can come down to the last day. But remember last year, Milan was 6 on top of Juve and at the end Juve was 12 on top.

I like AS Roma, one of my friends is a mad Roma fan, and I'll just have to wait and see how crazy he goes if scudetto goes to Rome (maybe not to Lazio ;) )

Roma has propably the best starting 11 a this point, but a few injuries could be fatal for them by many means. If 3 of their ~6 key players get injured, their unbeaten streak is much unlikely to continue. Especially losing Totti or Samuel, would be no good for Rome.

Juve can afford a few injuries, they have over 15 players that would start a CL final. They have just been having a bad serie A season. Their goalkeeper, Buffon is definetely worlds greatest in many years and that will get them many extra points at the big games before the season ends.

AC Milan, I might say that imo they are out for this seasons race for scudetto. Statistics don't call for that, but their inconsistent matches in the CL have proved that this might not be their year. The clash with Rivaldo also might've made a difference on their dressing room atmostphere. They have many legendary players, but mostly old stars. If Kaka continues find his form and Dida continues to play well, they could clinch it with some luck.

Inter, not sure about them.. Hard to say if they come back, haven't dropped to much, and there are players up for it, but the question mark is on the results they will get. The hassle with changing manager and everything hasn't been all useless, but I can see them just going down.

Lazio, the fans should finally start to behave. (like that was gonna happen before the Serbian nazi-captain leaves) Texts insulting Michael Jackson ( :crazyboy: ) and nazi flags.. how far can they go? As a team, they have beaten some big sides, and they certainly ain't out of the race.

It's going to be a very interesting spring for Serie A followers!

hope you have the nerves to read all this.

juve have 15 players who could start a CL final?
you mean starting with miccoli and di vaio and a sick del piero??
that would'nt get them far
roma is pretty good bu they have played badly since the beginninfg of th e season
their defense is so strong that they can afford having a bad day

i don't see how juve and especially milan can consider roma as a weaker opponent

heres my opinion on the top clubs in serie A
ROMA: good on the pitch, crap players on the bench, the next game totti doesnt play i reckon they'll loose
JUVE: settled team who really knows eachother, worries when nedved doesnt play because the whole gaemplan changes
MILAN: good side, shevchenko is carrying the team a bit, if inzaghi fires up could be dangerous
INTER: gameplan is toldo takes a goal kick, vieri chests it down and shoots, need i say more?

santino
23-12-2003, 10:51:PM
italianstyle, i've never seen a better analogy then that. u have each team down to a tee. the only thing, is roma don't have crap players on the bench, some are crap, the rest inexperienced....like de rossi and d'agostino, both good players, but they are too young and inexperienced.......and they don't get much match practice either.

fender

I doubt they'll go all the way but they definently have one heck of a defence.

Inter is playing a lot better recently.

Juve's problem is the defense. Something is not working with the centre back combinations. Montero has looked like a fool countless times and Legrotagille has been inconsistent. Some matches he was very good (in milan) and some he makes a mistake.

n0rthstar, juve is turning into a bit of a brazilian side, with the mentality "we'll let em score coz we're always gonna be able to score one back" i no i shouldnt say this, but its more exciting this way. instead of scoring in the opening 20mins then playing around with ball in back half and giving paolo montero the most completed passes for the game

well actually tottiiii, lima is playing some good football right now so i dunno who would be needed to replace him, but d'agostino played as a sub against empoli and he ran the left wing pretty good with some nice passes......so i guess d'agostino is a good replacement because roma don't really need anyone right now.

well D'agostino is an Offensive player....Lima is a defensive wing back so they cannot play the same position....Candela was the ideal player 2 seasons ago but hes injured a lot and is not the same player....Lima is good but hes older and we will need a replacement ....if Candela was healthy and on form Lima would probably not play since we play the 3-4-1-2

Juve a slight chance.

Totti: We are the strongest
A match that will reopen the play, and which could be quite significant on that long march towards lo scudetto, something like this truly deserves a figure who can generate more hype towards the game. That's why, just three days from the big match with Milan at the Olimpico, Roma have sent in front of the microphones at Trigoria their captain. And Francesco Totti, to confirm the excellent period that his team is going through, doesn't have any difficultly facing the journalists, interpreting everything in that same spirit which he's demonstrated on more than one occasion, above all, when he was able to laugh at himself in a joke book which later became a bestseller.

With his behavior the captain has promised that over the Christmas break they did not get distracted. Roma, in short, want to pick up right where they left off in 2003: winning, they want to finish the round as winter champions. It's his job to make spectacular plays. And to speak clearly. Because a fuoriclasse cannot (and should not) have fear of anybody. Respect yes, but fear is not a word in Francesco's vocabulary. In addition, the captain wants to promise a special goal, as only a champion can do, that will be talked about throughout Europe, because he now understands that not having been recognized in that last Pallone d'Oro hurt, even if he says the opposite.

"I'm hoping to score a goal like I did against Bucci when he played with Torino," remembers the number 10, "Dida is inform, however I could even score a 'cucchiaio. Certainly, the keepers know me, but I will always try. I will do anything that comes to mind..." The promises are good, even his spirit. Totti knows however that it will not be a game like all the others: "It won't be an easy game. We will be playing against the Champions of Europe. Should we win it would be a nice move forward."

With all this said, the captain still believes that it's still too early to talk about any tricolore. The championship is still long. Before the year end break, Milan were not going through a happy period, collecting losses in their last two games (with Boca Juniors and with Udinese), perhaps it would have been better for Roma to have faced them before the break. "Perhaps this break has done well for them," observes Totti, "since they were coming off similar results. For us it could be the right moment to give them the definitive killer blow. But the break is good for every team, it rejuvenates them. I believe that at the end the best team will win. And as of right now it's Roma."

This is not to say that the captain thinks that the game is already said and done: "We will go onto the field to win, but we will be playing against a great team and it will not be easy. Everything is possible, perhaps even a draw. Milan always are fearful, but us at the Olimpico can be hurtful." Roma have an impressive streak going at home this year. Totti does not have revenge on the mind for the loss in last years Coppa Italia final. "That is already forgotten," he confirms, "but revenge is always there when you play against a big team. They say that us and Milan play the best football. I look at only Roma. We are doing amazing things. This could be enough, then if they play better and win.... The important thing for us is always to win."

Is Milan without Nesta less strong? "I won't say that it's better for us, but almost. Let's not forget that there is Maldini and Costacurta. However if I would take away one player at Milan I would take away Sheva." And would you bring him to Roma? "I would bring all the champions, him, Vieri, Davids." Then Totti reveals: "With Vieri to pass time in the National team we talked about this possibility, just like this, to entertain ourselves. And he was enjoying the idea."

Counseling Sensi for the acquisitions or for those that will come, but that which counts the most is the present. "And we are an excellent group, united right from the day we got together. Now we are even more stimulated, even if the results keep you more relaxed." Is this Roma stronger or the one that captured the scudetto? "That of the title," responds Totti, "because this team still hasn't won anything, but it can and it has to." The giallorosso captain doesn't think that Juve are in crisis, but the only adversary that Roma must worry about is only one: "Roma itself. It's that which worries me the most."

Thinking a little bit more about himself, here are some of his objectives: "I arrived at 18th place in the Pallone d'Oro. It means that I have still a lot to do and I will do it. This is the best Totti ever because I look to improve myself, therefore the last one is always the most inform. Trapattoni didn't vote for me? It didn't worry me, he always said that he would and then he didn't. But it's all right, it's up to me to do better." Totti perhaps ignores the fact that a coach cannot vote for a player which plays on his national team....

The Captain at the end cannot help but talk about Cassano, and he does it among being serious and playful. "He's a champion and when I will no longer be there he will take Roma in his hands. When I won't be there, among ten years......"

Nice Article......thought id post it for my fellow Roma fans, and everyone else to critique since i know they love too

Roma In Secret Meeting With The Russians

02/20/2004. AS Roma's Russian take-over may be a step closer after secret meetings with Moskva Naphta were reportedly held on Monday and Tuesday.

Moskva Naphta representatives are said to have met with the Giallorossi management, and some kind of agreement was apparently reached.

No confirmation yet, but Roma's dire financial situation may be that much closer to being solved.
