hingis retired due to her troublesome ankle... which plagued her, and she knew she doesnt have the power to compete with the williams sisters...

:) hingis is bak also rafter one of ma fav players in the atp "sorry mate" :D neway i think that either andre or roddick will win it i also think that andrei pavel will get to atleast the quarters in this one.

Rob
27-12-2003, 08:47:AM
Rafter is a legend.

And Hingis may not have the power to compete with the Williams, but nethier does Henin-Hardene (spelling), So you tell me. Hingis is the smartest womens player if not mens also you will see in a long time, she has a fantastic tennis brain.

choppy
27-12-2003, 09:01:AM
I think HIngis can work her way back to the top. When she retired she had injuries plus the psycological issues associated with being constantly hammered by the Williams sisters.

PLayers like Justine Henin are showing that the Williams can be outsmarted and I think that Hingis will pick up strategies from them.

The Williams sisters are starting to prove to be injury prone so maybe that influenced her decision abit because they may not be playing as much.

butkis
28-12-2003, 01:03:PM
will the williams sisters be playing. they may not still be over there fat sisters death

Umm...Hingis isnt back.

Serena Williams is out. She pulled out due to a knee injury. Also Clijsters may not be playing in the Aussie Open due to an ankle injury. Henin and Venus Williams only really have a chance if Clijsters doesnt play. Davenport is playing pretty good to so she may have a chance. In Mens its wide open and thats why mens tennis is miles better. Though Andre is my favourite player and I hope he wins!

Last year he didnt play in many tournaments. Just concentrated on big things like the Grand Slams and the Davis Cup and thats why he slipped down the rankings so much.

Anyway Agassi won yesterday in straight sets. He seemed in pretty good form. Hewitt is currently playing now and he leads 6-2 6-4 and 0-0 in the 3rd. His opponent Cecil Mamit I think he injured himself....

edit: He just retired hurt....Hewitt through to the 2nd round.

Rob
20-01-2004, 03:08:PM
Hewitt played 13 tourneys during 2003, which is kinda good for the Aussie open, his fresh. His won the Davis Cup which was his dream, now on to the Aussie Open.

KoreaJjang
20-01-2004, 06:18:PM
I dont like Hewitt since his too boisterous !!
Hewitt does have skills but also some luck having injured 3 Opponent...
This Year I think David Nalbandian(sp?) will win
His in a good form...!!

Andrew
20-01-2004, 08:19:PM
I dont like hewitt hes too big headed, i think Andy Roddick should win the mens or possibly JCF if he gets into his sensational best. But with the woman i think Henin Hardenne will probably win it altho it will be hard as the hard hitters like Clijsters, Williams, Davenport are on their favoured Court(Hard Court). So my Money is on Henin-Hardenne for Womans and A-ROD for Mens(H)

Andrew
20-01-2004, 08:21:PM
BTW JCF is Juan Carlos Ferrero:)

Essendon BFC
20-01-2004, 08:23:PM
The only 3 womens players in my opinion that can win it are Henin, Venus Williams and Clijsters. Thats why womens tennis isnt as good as mens. Womens is much more predictable while in mens you never really know who is going to win and there are often upsets.

philippoussis into the 3rd round beating fabrice santoro in 4 sets

rafter and eagle lost in straight sets to 2 sth africans
it was nice to see rafter play again, he was by far the best player on the court in that match, but his partner let him down a few times
i wish he'd come back for real and enter the doubles circuit

Essendon BFC
22-01-2004, 08:51:PM

The only Romanian left in the draw, Andrei Pavel advanced to the 3rd round in straight sets over that American dude that I never heard of, but tough challenge coming up, he plays against #14 Jiri Novak I hope he advances he hasn't done well in a Grand Slam in a long time, at least the quarters, I hope. Roddick will play Taylor Dent in the 3rd I'd say thats an easy win for Roddick he is on fire right now also Agassi will probably advance he plays Enqvist where has he been wow its been long since hes done somthing. GO PAVEL :clapwap:

Well there like men so i think you entitled to call them men.

Raymond played smart and Williams played dumb. She was hitting to Raymonds forehand everytime instead of her backhand and was also making way to many mistakes. Federer and Phillippoussiss are through easily to the 4th round.

italianstyle87
24-01-2004, 06:45:PM
lleyton hewitt got through in straight sets 7-6 7-6 6-2
the guy he played is 17 from spain david nadal
this nadal has the best forehand you've ever seen, he was hitting hewitt off the court, but lleyton's experience came through

watch out for nadal, soon no1 will ever be able hit a forehand off him

Essendon BFC
24-01-2004, 07:50:PM
Hitting Lleyton off the court?? Dont know about that. You dont get hit off the court and win by experience. He was the better player and thats why he won. Nadal seems like a very good player. He can improve and he will be one of the top players in the world in the future. Nalbandian, Federer, Hewitt, Ferrero, Phillippousiss, all won. Agassi against Scrichapan match tomorrow should be a pretty good one.

italianstyle87
24-01-2004, 08:20:PM
he was hitting him off the court on every aggressive forehand, hewitt outsmarted him and kept playing the ball to his backhand, and nadal was always running around it to hit off-forehands
when nadal unleashed one of those forehands hewitt was could barely handle it
his experience came into play in the tiebreakers where he played the right shots, the first two sets both players were playing well, very closely matched

the last set nadal was gone, u cant expect a 17 year old to keep up with hewitt for 2 and a half hours

did u even watch the match? hewitt was scared to hit it to his forehand, hewitt won only because he has a much more allround shot selection and 6years and 2 grandslams under his belt

Essendon BFC
24-01-2004, 08:48:PM
Yes I did watch the match.

You cant be a good player by only having a good forehand. So all half smart players will hit to the players backhand and have a match win.

Safin v Blake match should be a good one.

They played at the Hopman Cup earlier in which Blake won in 3 tight sets (2 sets to 1). I hope Blake wins and beats Roddick.

Federer got thrashed by Agassi at the Commonwealth International...6-2 6-1 or something. So Dont know if federer is the true worlds number 1. Reid was stuffed and could barely run so it was nothing big by Federer beating him easily.

$teauA
25-01-2004, 07:23:AM

Andre Agassi has beaten Paradorn Srichapan 7-6 6-3 6-4 in a pretty good match. Scrichapan played much better then what the score looks like. Agassi played well and deserved to win. I think thats 24 straight match wins for Agassi at the Australian Open.

IceBlu
25-01-2004, 12:31:PM
Agassi played very well. Paradon looked like he could cause an upset early in the game but Andre stood his ground and did what he does best.

Its going to be hard to stop him.

Essendon BFC
25-01-2004, 12:41:PM
Roddick is playing very well.

I think he is the only one that could stop him and I would rate Roddick a very good chance of winning if the 2 played.

Already he has won the 1st set 6-1 in 18 minutes against Shalken.

italianstyle87
25-01-2004, 02:37:PM
the good thing about the mens draw is that there are so many people who can win
agassi, federer, roddick, nalbandian, hewitt, ferrero, maybe even philippoussous or safin

Essendon BFC
25-01-2004, 02:49:PM
Thats why mens tennis is much better then womens tennis.

There is only really like 3 women who can win and theres never a lot of upsets. Mens Tennis is of a much better quality to.

italianstyle87
25-01-2004, 09:10:PM
did you hear that comment by andy roddicks current coach and agassi's former coach
he said the top 1000 mens players would beat the number one womens player everytime
and when asked his henin (no1 women) would get a game off roddick (no1 man) he said that he might be able to hold serve

Essendon BFC
25-01-2004, 09:33:PM
Yeah was in the paper.

Dont think a 1000 ranked man could beat Henin.....Barely a 200 in my opinion and really she isnt the real number 1 anyway. Serena Williams is.

italianstyle87
25-01-2004, 09:59:PM
yeah but u could apply that theory of who is really what ranking to anything, even though ur statement is tru
-agassi is the real number one coz he plays less tournaments and gets less points but is still no4
-hewitt is really 10 spots lower coz he look time off for davis cup

i dun reckon the 1000th ranked man could beat henin, and even men outside 150 would struggle with the williams sisters

Federer leading Nalbandian 5-2 4th set...damn I really thought this year was Nalbandians year because he played so well in commonwealth cup...this match both Federer and Nalbandian are playing well...but too unlucky for nalbandian...

Safin is ranked No. 86 in the world at the moment, but when on form, he's a top ten, if not top five player. I wanted him to win, because I'm always in favour of a European over an American.

Nothing against Americans!

The Safin v Federer match should be good.

Really I'm not sure who is going to win and not sure who to support. At the moment Im just hoping for a good match. Pity the match is in the afternoon, I think a night final would better.

Justine Henin Hardenne has won the Womens Final in 3 sets 6-3 4-6 6-3. Was a pretty good un predictable match. Clijsters came back from 4-0 in the 3rd set but couldnt do enough.

Well surely you can understand that he would have been a little tired after 2 LONG 5 setters against Agassi and Roddick. Was a boring match but It was always going to be boring because I think Day matches are boring.

Least I got what I wished for. The Australian Open mens final next year and years after that will be on a sunday NIGHT.
