View Full Version : Too MLS fans (They are still trying to modify the MLS season points system) Inter Milan USA 19-11-1999, 05:03:AM copy and paste this: http://www.soccerspot.com/scripts/runisa.dll?M2:gp:515487:26723+m_mstory+9280 Goodsport 19-11-1999, 05:15:AM Don't worry, that report is a few days old. MLS has indeed officially adopted the 3/1/0 (wins, draws, losses) system, just like the rest of the world (hooray!). http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif For the 2000 MLS season, if the game ends in a draw in regulation, it will go into a "Golden Goal" overtime with two five-minute halves. If neither team scores by the end of the overtime, then the game ends in a draw. Also, the clock will now count up, and the referee will be keeping the time down on the field. http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/biggrin.gif -G celtic fc 19-11-1999, 08:17:AM Whats the point of going into golden goal extra time in a league match?? Goodsport 19-11-1999, 07:28:PM I guess they consider it a compromise on their part. The true soccer (football) fans in the U.S. (we are few, but we are there http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif ) hated the shootout and would have accepted draws at the end of regulation as a part of the game. However, I believe that the investor/operators of the MLS teams were afraid that the average U.S. sports fan cannot accept draws. That is probably why they instituted the "Golden Goal" overtime that ends in a draw if no one scores. I would have prefered to keep the game in a draw if the teams ended regulation with the same score, but the overtime is still much better than the shootout. http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif -G ezio 19-11-1999, 07:51:PM Goodsport, I agree with you. I still would have prefered to end it in a tie at the end of regulation. But I also agree that they think the OTHER fans want to not see the game end in a tie. But then again, there are two 5 minute overtimes so much can really be expected to happen. I think we will send a lot of games end in ties even after OT. Still, I like all the changes and think it is a step in the right direction if the league wants to get back the REAL soccer fans. MLSman 20-11-1999, 06:55:AM It's about time. jsbach 20-11-1999, 07:19:AM Next the MLS should continue on the San Jose Earthquakes idea and rename the NY/NJ Metrostars the NY Cosmos. There's too much history there to ignore. With Matthaus coming, a new start... the timing would be perfect. Start sending those e-mails to the Metrostars and MLS's Garber. The addresses are on the websites. Inter Milan USA 23-11-1999, 08:30:AM bring the Columbus Crew to Cleveland and rename them rather the Force (the name of an indoor soccer team that was in Cleveland) or the Stockers ( I saw on some websight where for 2 seasons, Cleveland had an NASL team called the Stockers) |
