In the January transfer window Celtic are signing Motherwell's left midfielder Stephen Pearson and Rangers are signing tough tackling Dundee star Gavin Rae.

Very good to see...how often we'll play them is another matter though.

Surprising especially for Rangers since their A squad was pretty much all foreigners :o

Does the SPL have a foreinger rule?? I'm guessing no but is there really?

yes chelsea does have alot of foreign players,but 4 of there first team players are english players,glenn johnson,frank lampard,wayne bridge,john terry,they also have joe cole.

The SPL doesn't have a foreigner rule as such except that there can't be more than 3 non-EU players in any team.

Chelsea has several English players in the A squad.. What about Arsenal?

Ashley Cole, Sol Campbell, Ray Parlour, Justin Hoyte. And David Bentley.

and yea, the OF need more scottish players...last time i saw Rangers i think they played 1 scot. Haven't seen celtic in awhile.

Good point except Souness didn't go to England from Scottish football.

and only Hearts have supplied English clubs with a decent number of players recently.

well what happens with them is...the OF buy them, let them rot in the reserves for a few years and then you never hear of them again :)

i hear a lot of people say that but i can't think of any examples of young Scottish players who came to Glasgow and spent 2 or more seasons in the reserves.

Now that you've bought Scottish talent from other clubs, let's wait for your next flop in Europe and then hear you blame how there's no competition in the SPL. :)

The other thing to say is that Gavin Rae isn't that young. He is 26 so Rangers are getting an experienced player. As for there being no competition for us in the SPL, the reason for that is we can afford a better class of player than the rest. If you have better players you win more games simple as that!

Pearson will be a very good player for us in the years to come

the deal could get hijacked, if chelsea are watching :P

yeah wee Pearson will be dynamite for us, must admit tho i never seen too much of him untill the rangers motherwell game where he ran the huns ragged all game, after wqtching that game i know one of us would be signing him.

I like Rae too but he is not good enough for us, just rangers

At last Celtic buy a Player....Must be about 2+ years since you bought a new player.

I don't really rate Gavin Rae but at the moment he'll do a job and do it better than the **** we've got right now.

Gavin Rae is a fine player, I think he'll go onto the premiership or maybe serie A like bonneti keeps sayin! i went to gavin rae's cousins house the other day...i wasnt impressed :(

Both are promising Scottish players but there is no guarantee that they'll succeed at the Old Firm.

I have been impressed by Pearson whenever I've seen him play but I'm not sure about Gavin Rae.

To be fair there really isn't much Scottish greats out there any more, as compared to the 80s when you have the likes of Hansen, etc..

Quite surprised that the Old Firm didn't get James McFadden, who instead went to Everton. If he's good enough to play in the Premiership, surely he should be good enough to play in the SPL. He's also a very exciting player to watch as well.
