Isn't it obvious why career mode is only limited to 5 years??

Because if it was any longer, players would have to start retiring, young players would have to appear ...... etc. etc. And the game would just be managing game where you play the games! And thats what football fusions for!!

And if it was longer than 5 years and players DIDNT start retiring etc. EVERYONE WOULD COMPLAIN!!!

So EA got this one right by limiting it to 5 years!!

I already thought of that when I found out that it was limited, seems logical to me... :)

Daz

If you want longer, more in depth team management then check out Total Club Manager 2004 (I like it better than CM03/04).

My favorite thing so far was that a band asked to perform at my team's stadium (Oxford Utd) after I expanded it and they caused $25000 worth of turf repair.

Umm.. actually with all due respect Daz, you're wrong. If you live outside of the United States you may not be familiar with EA's "NCAA Football" series. It's an American Football game that simulates the experience of being a college football coach. Not only do you play the games, you also recruit new players, redshirt them, pick strategies etc... The game goes on year after year after year with no end.

The reason why I bring this game up is because of the way it compares to fifa in terms of overall size. In NCAA there are around 150 teams (counting division 2). Each year, every team loses all of its graduating seniors and some of it's juniors leaving early for the pros. This means that hundreds of new players need to be recruited and signed every year across the league. I can speak for a LOT of NCAA players when I say that this is a very excting feature. Getting that "blue chip" recruit or that underrated "diamond in the rough" can be thrilling.

My point is that FIFA can do the same thing if they wanted. What if they had a feature that broke down the youth (U17 say) by country. You select the country you are interested in and it ranks all of the youth players by skill. Then you highlight an individual player and see his stats (height, weight) and some general feedback on his skills (this player is fast, but needs to work on his shot). Additionaly there is a meter that shows how interested the youth is in signing a contract with your team. The better, more well known your team, the more likely he will sign with you. He may want to play on a team where he can start right away or he may favor a team that is only in his home country. What do you think of this? Am I on to something?

In this way the years will go on and on. You will watch as your recruits rise through the ranks and either take you to glory or bust and fall apart.

Another interesting feature that NCAA has is that it includes over 100 (!) different stadiums. :rockman: It's so cool to play a different stadium against a hostile home crowd every time you go on the road. Having seen this I must say that there is NO excuse that FIFA, PES etc... cannot do the same!!!!

Ok I hope this helps. Please give feedback on my (really they are NCAA) ideas.

Well Daz, I would hope that they would spend the time/money/effort on FIFA. After all, it has to generate a LOT of money for them. I would have to think it outsells NCAA and Madden, but I am not sure. Does anyone know if this is true or not?

The point is that there is demand for a longer "dynasty" structure and it *is* possible to do this. So now the ball is in the game maker's court. (I'm not only saying that EA is to blame here because Konami is just as guilty.)

Well if they want FIFA to be as popular as their Madden and NCAA titles then yes. Those two are the best selling games EA makes.

Ea screwed up having Fifa made in Canada.....I am a Canadian and soccer is not hyped here the way it is in other countries......though with the multiculturalism........there are tons of soccer fans.......but what EA should do is have the game made in Europe.............

Yeah, I totally agree. A soccer game would best be made by Europeans. They understand that soccer is not just hockey on grass without the sticks and a ball instead of a puck....

First of all Bah Humbug, watch what you say about Canadians

But moving on, NHL 2004 has a really in depth dynasty mode where you become the GM and draft players, trade players, call-up players, even decorate your office...for 20 years...so yeah, if EA wanted to go longer than a 5 year career mode they totally could and it's totally within their capabilities

My biggest complaint is that the 5 year career mode isn't condusive to developing players. Take Newcastle for example...they've got young starlets like Jenas, Vianna, Bramble, ect. The problem is that it takes too long and costs too much to make them have an impact on my team in just 5 years. It's just as cost-efficient (if not moreso) to buy up established, albeit aging stars...not a good strategy for real managers to persue. As a result of the current system, buying young doesn't make sense unless you can train them and sell them for a profit...which doesn't usually happen in the real world (key word: usually)

That said, I think the career deal needs to be either longer (just try for 20 years, we all know it can be done) or change the way its setup so that young players aren't screwed over the way they are here

But some of you make a good point, I'm real curious to see how many Europeans actually have an input on the outcome of the game
