View Full Version : Bolton Wanderers v Manchester United [P] & [R]
shokz 07-01-2004, 05:14:AM Javi Moreno is awaiting international clearance in order to make his Bolton Wanderers debut against Manchester United.
The Atletico Madrid striker has signed on loan for the remainder of the campaign, and will give added punch to Sam Allardyce's attack ahead of their most eagerly-awaited game of the season.
Allardyce was able to rest several stars in the FA Cup draw with Tranmere Rovers on Saturday, and is only missing Mario Jardel and Florent Laville from his squad.
Jardel is reported to be suffering from a hamstring injury, which would explain his absence from the Prenton Park clash, despite Besiktas claiming they have been offered his services over the past week or so.
The influential Jay-Jay Okocha is available after delaying his link-up with the Nigeria squad for the African Cup of Nations.
United will recall Roy Keane and Ruud van Nistelrooy to their starting line-up after the duo turned the cup tie at Aston Villa on Sunday when they entered the fray as second half substitutes.
Diego Forlan looks certain to be one of the men to make way after a below-par display at Villa Park, but Rio Ferdinand should be fit enough to return after recovering from a bug.
Wes Brown may be rested after making his first start since last season's final day win at Everton, but John O'Shea was substituted after cutting his head at the weekend, and Phil Neville also has a slight ankle knock.

Rio Ferdinand & Phillip Neville to return to the starting lineup
Sir Alex Ferguson faces more selection dilemmas ahead of Wednesday's Premiership clash with Bolton Wanderers at the Reebok Stadium.
The United manager has confirmed both Rio Ferdinand and Phil Neville will return to the squad to face Sam Allardyce's side.
"Rio Ferdinand and Phil Neville are fit again," the manager confirmed. "Rio had the flu and Phil had an ankle injury. But they are both back training now."
John O'Shea, who overcame a hamstring injury to play against Aston Villa on Sunday, suffered a nasty head wound in the FA Cup third round win at Villa Park. But the manager added that he will also be available for selection.
"It just gives me more selection problems," added Sir Alex.

Matches against Bolton at the Reebok are always tough for us. This should be no exception. Wouldn't be surprised if we drew either.

Javi Moreno is expected to make his debut for Bolton should he receive international clearance in time.
Mario Jardel (hamstring) and long-term injury victim Florent Laville (knee) are the only players unavailable to manager Sam Allardyce.
Manchester United's Rio Ferdinand looks set to feature in the derby game because of a flu virus.
Phil Neville is expected back from an ankle complaint, while Roy Keane and Ruud van Nistelrooy should also start.

Andrew 07-01-2004, 05:17:PM I think 3-1 with United in Blistering Form with Scholes starting the scoring with a beautiful drive from 30 yards out, then Ruud taps in after a giggs cross and then Bolton score through Nolan but Man United finish the game off in style with a beautiful team move finished by Kleberson:)
Torsten Frings 07-01-2004, 06:23:PM 0-0. I hope. Yes, I know it's not likely.

I just played Bolton's goal in very slow motion, Gary Neville definetly did get another own-goal, but this time there was nothing he could do about it, it would've been pure luck if it had gone over or wide.
Sky Sports also says that Gary Neville did head it into his own net, so I guess we can put that issue to rest.
IMO there was nowt he could do, and you must mark the defender in which he did otherwise it coulda been an easy goal for Bolton anyway.

Help? 08-01-2004, 11:15:AM DAMN! like Bobby MacMahon said that FSWCanada in summer, that Tim could be a real steal for United, look what happened so far. If he will continue playing like that, then his dream of fans saying Peter who? will definietly happen!
::Jason:: 08-01-2004, 11:43:AM Okocha had a two shot's that could've been goal of the month, if had gone in. And Ba's lastminute effort went over the bar as shokz said. :p
thanks for the highlights.
Howard was brilliant, but so many of the shots were longshots from over 25 meters away. Good ones tho.
tottiiii 08-01-2004, 12:36:PM hes what a goalkeeper should be...amazing quickness
fender 08-01-2004, 01:57:PM Howard is just wow.
Caponedawg 08-01-2004, 02:16:PM thanks Shokz. LOL did you see Okocha's reaction after Howard saved his shot late in the second half. IT was like "Oh my god how the hell did he get that". Freaking brilliant I tell ya.
monkee 08-01-2004, 03:32:PM Howard definately kept us in the lead in that match. The 2 saves that stood out for me were the one from Campo's shot which had to be bloked and then his reaction to tip the ball away from Nolan's feet just as he was about to shoot. The other is obviously the save from Okocha's shot, where Okocha couldn't believe it.
Seemed a pretty even game, but you know that you'd have to play hard and play well to beat this Bolton team at the Reebok, and that's what we did. From the highlights it appeared that we had the better of the first half opportunities and Bolton really came out after the interval. Then they made some decent shots, most of them being from distance but still forcing Howard to save.
The build up to the first goal was good, and Jaaskelainen (sp?) only managed to block Ruud's shot into the path of Scholes, who had made another of those cleverly timed and placed runs into the box, for a simple tap in.
The 2nd goal, there's a hint of offside for Ruud, although I'm not sure if they would have classed it as 'interfering' with play when the ball is played through? I'm not certain of that rule, and if he was offside then it's probably to balance the times he's been wrongly flagged offside when other goal scoring opportunities have been presented to him. Fletcher was behind Bolton's line but he was miles away from play (maybe obstructed the linesman's view if Ruud was offside according to the rules). Anyway, nice pass from Scholes, good work from Giggs and a nice finish. Not sure if Giggs' shot-come-cross was going in but Ruud made certain. Well, Scholes knicked a goal from his feet at the weekend so he's got a goal. :D
Bolton's goal was decent, and their hard work deserved it. Whether Neville was impeded by Djorkaeff, who seemed to be pushing him down, is academic, and just something I am wondering about, but Neville knocked in his 2nd own goal of recent times. Neville the elder was somewhat unfortunate mind, he was doing his job and if he hadn't got in the way Djorkaeff would've scored it. It didn't make any difference to the outcome of the game though. A 2-1 win at the Reebok is a good result for any team.
One question... Was it just me that saw it or did a Bolton player kick out at a United player (Fortune?) on the left flank towards the end of the match? If so, why didn't the ref (same one as United-Arsenal, who booked Vieira for lashing out) at least book the player for that incident?
beach23 08-01-2004, 10:41:PM anybody know the time this game is playing on Fox Sports World?
