After looking at the lineups for this weeks round of coppa italia games, i came to the conclusion that these competitions are useless. All they are is run-outs for benched and recovering players. I know that in other countries like england, theyre taken seriously, but why? what does winning these cups achieve?

The FA Cup, is taken seriously in England simply because its the greatest domestic Cup Competition in the world, and there is alot of money involved for the small clubs from the Football League and Non-League teams who need the money more than anyone else, any lower league club on there day can win and upset the big guns, its unpredictable, its all about passion, hunger and desire.

well the winnner of the romanian cup automatically qualifies for europe even if they finish lower than fourth, so theres something to fight for.

The Cup is a big deal in every country Bcoz its a competition that every single team in the land takes part in.

Concerning the FA Cup. It's an even bigger deal in England as it was the first competition created.

there's no domestic cup in Paraguay since 92 and Olimpia was the last champion ;)
As for the european countries, I tought they were always important, like the FA cup, I dunno why they don't take it seriously in Italy

There's a domestic cup in the US - the US Open Cup - but nobody cares about it. :(

The 2003 US Open Cup final at Giants stadium drew only a little more than 5,000 people in attendance. In comparison, an average MetroStars MLS regular season game draws around 15,000.

i think that you are confused cuz in italy it is important, so i dont know what do you say that its not

same reason there is a CL, its a knockout comp.(sort of) that features clubs that meet a certain criteria (Best in Europe, or Being a recognized organization/football club in whatever country etc.)....it allows for more games to be played and seen by people.

just because the starters in the cup arent the usual starters in the league doesnt mean anything.
if they dont play in that cup, then they play just a hand full of games in the league and thats it. so its important for them and i think that any team would like to win the coppa but of course they will prefer to win the league, and i think that its the same in many other leagues

i think the domestic cups are important mainly for the lowest leagues teams who get to play the bigger clubs and that's an highlight for them

The FA cup brings a since of pride with it as well as a possible european place. When you think about all who have lifted it, it has to feel amazing to win it.

Scarborough(Conferance), beat Southend United(Division 3) last night, they made it to the 4th round for the first time in the club's history, likely to make the headlines today.

They face Chelsea in the next round, and Scarborough will make around £500,000, which is massive for them. (Y)

dude, imagine a team like Portsmouth winning the FA Cup and playing in Europe. it brings in bucketloads of cash for such a small club;)

Honestly I think it's just another way to send more than one club in your league home with a nice set of Hardware. I don't mean to degrade domestic cups, but I think it's also away to break in young or new additions to a squad (at least from a coaches stand point).

well it serves a purpose in italy too......but the league seems more important because its an overall performance where the cup is just a tournament......though, the reason roma is in the uefa cup is because they made it to the finals of last years italian cup

Could happen, anything can happen.

West Ham United beat Arsenal 1-0 in the 1980 FA Cup Final, at that time, West Ham were in the Old Second Division. (Y)

it is the 2 legs each round is in italy which i think is a pain in the arse for some of these top clubs, as opposed to most nations who have just one match. So then ur gonna get 2nd legs that mean notheing when one side wins 5-0 in the first leg.

West Ham have a 100% record in FA cup finals, to my knowledge.

Blackburn got into Europe by virtue of winning the league cup time before last, too.

No, the carling cup is great.

You get to see good young stars.

United played a fellow called Eagles this year who they're really high on now, Jeremie Aliadiaire has shined for arsenal, and Cesc has played for Arsenal. Along with alot of other guys.

the carling cup lets teams that will prolly finish 10-11-12 etc. qualify for europe

the FA cup is the greatest domestic cup ever...

and talking of cup upsets in 1976 2nd division southampton beat 1st division man utd in the final 1-0....

i'm sure you all wanted to know that :crazyboy:
