View Full Version : FA may allow Earpieces.

The Football Association says it may vote in favour of radio communication between players and coaches.
The FA is considering the move after Belgian goalkeeper Jan Moons became the first player to use an earpiece to receive instructions during a match.
FA executive director David Davies told BBC Sport: "We haven't yet got a firm stance on the subject."
"But in England we've always been interested in new technology," he said.
Other sports already allow radio communications between participants and their tacticians, for instance in Formula One and the NFL.
And they have been experimented with in football - but only to allow referees to communicate with their assistants.
Davies is hopeful the subject will be raised when the International Football Association Board meets next month - but fears any hopes to introduce the technology may fail.
No my coach doesn't tell me which way I have to dive!
Genk goalkeeper Jan Moons
"We are members of the international board, which decides the laws of the game," added Davies.
"We abide by laws as laid down by the board and although I have not heard of this before I'm sure it will be of interest.
"But sometimes we have found ourselves in a minority on the international board."
Fifa, world football's governing body, seems unsure of whether or not such technology is allowed.
Article Four of the game's laws only says a player's equipment must not put in danger his own security or that of others.
"In terms of any equipment which is on the field, Law Four is the first guidance," said a Fifa spokesman.
"This states that a player should not use equipment that is dangerous to themselves. Dunfermline test new audio plugs
"Any equipment that is used on the field of play, such as goggles, must not be dangerous to the player, and whether it is or not, is left to the discretion of the referee."
Belgium national team coach Aime Antheunis has said he is keen to use the technology at international level following Genk's experiment.
"This will bring about a real revolution in the world of football. If Fifa authorise it, I will definitely use it."
And Moons himself said the earpiece had dramatic effects in their 1-0 victory over Club Brugge.
"At first you feel it but after a few minutes you hardly notice that it's there," he said.
"Two or three times he gave me tactical information which I then gave to the defenders.
"And no, the coach doesn't tell me which way I have to dive!"
LOL...this is great as coaches like strachan dont have to pop veins to get instructions out. But it may be a distraction. What do you think?
Fernandez 21-01-2004, 09:01:PM not a great idea for me (N)
ogsimon 21-01-2004, 09:13:PM great idea!!
::Jason:: 21-01-2004, 09:19:PM interesting. it really fits nfl and formula one, but maybe not football..
shokz 21-01-2004, 09:48:PM It stinks, I'd go for video technology(as its needed).
But not voice communications, no thanks, I dont see how it can make the game better.
Julianinho 22-01-2004, 06:53:AM That's just gay. o watch out man on.o shot :kader:
pennington10 22-01-2004, 06:56:AM I enjoy watching coaches yell from the touchline and give out instructions to subs to tell the rest of the team. It is part of the game.
Julianinho 22-01-2004, 07:00:AM Wtf part of the game. Don;t you think there gunan tell the players oh some name is open pass it. thats not soccer:kader:
SB9Dragon 22-01-2004, 07:00:AM Sure maybe this can be used in the future, but like someone else said Soccer/Football really needs to have Video technology to help refs on bad plays. While your at it also add the option of challenging plays and challenging cards:rockman: (H)
Jedi Mind Trick 22-01-2004, 07:04:AM eh...i don't think using earpieces is a good idea at all.
Pingtung 22-01-2004, 07:05:AM Don't like the idea of a coach telling a player when to pass and of players he can't currently in his own vision. Tactics are to be worked out during half time and non matchdays.
ninobomba 22-01-2004, 07:10:AM This is not how soccer should be played
It will ruin soccer completely
"pass me the ball " ROger"
ROger " ROGER"
"nice GOal roger"
Roger that
i would like this On refs
pennington10 22-01-2004, 07:15:AM I don't want ear pieces on players and I don't want video replays for refs. Human error is part of the game. It is the refs decision you don't want something undermining his authorty because then you will have two problems A) teams would complain that every little call would needed to be challenged B) you would have to stop the clock for ref video replays and the clock should not ever be stopped in soccer.
Andrew 22-01-2004, 07:18:AM pennington, I invented the name Glorious_PostBooster after that Glorious_Fan guy:p
pennington10 22-01-2004, 07:21:AM I know I liked it so much I decide to use it. Man is that guy annoying.
Andrew 22-01-2004, 07:32:AM hahahaha yeah i know, and he claims he doesnt postboost(My Arse) but back to the subject, i dont think this whole idea is good i mean, why do we need technology in our beautiful game its already a great game, and as i say dont fix it unless its broken:)
HellsideUltras 22-01-2004, 09:52:AM They should have video replays for balls crossing the goal line thats the ONLY thing. By the way it doesnt happen all that often and if it does occur during the game its only like 1 time so it shouldnt affect playing time and all that good stuff.
-William- 22-01-2004, 09:55:AM live the game as it is...
HellsideUltras 22-01-2004, 09:59:AM we should have timeouts and 2 minute warning in soccer and challenge every call then have 183897498739473249 commercial breaks and give 7 points for every goal and 3 points for kicking it over the crossbar into the crowd, there you go ALL UNITED STATES OF AMERICA WOULD LOVE THIS GREAT GAME!!!!:rockman: :rockman: :rockman:
santino 22-01-2004, 10:18:AM that was a bad hit at the US man, but anyways, what they should do is have video replays for goals and red cards that's all, but if they wanted to really toughen it up, a team could risk a sub if they review the play and the goal stands, then the team has one less substitute, something along those lines so coahces don't have every single called reviewed.
XJaymz 22-01-2004, 10:38:AM What I want to see is every foul reviewed on video AFTER the game.
And if it is found that the player dived, he should be given an automatic suspension.
1 game if it drew a free kick
2 if yellow card
3 if red
and 5 if penalty.
And those suspensions should also be without pay. And in the case of a penalty dive, the club should be fined half a million for the first offence, and penalsied 3 points for the second.
I HATE DIVING.

That's actually not a horrible idea. I don't know about the length of the suspensions, but it might do something to curb diving.
Bobby 22-01-2004, 01:56:PM Frank Jeffers isn't pleased :kader:

dude i didnt say sh!t to you :kader: i dont need to get no facts straight i know most stuff about american football because at work im forced to watch that waste of time sport on TV :kader: :kader:
HellsideUltras 23-01-2004, 11:30:AM i may be wrong about the 183897498739473249 commercials they show during one game but other than that im spot on buddy!! lol:p
GooDMaN 23-01-2004, 03:45:PM i doubt the coach will tell players when to pass and shoot, its probably more for telling the team to change formation or overall tactics
Spurs4Life 24-01-2004, 07:49:AM The silver goal has already been introduced, but they shouldnt tinker with football too much its great as it is,ear pieces for players?,what a stupid idea.

Nah, with video replays it would take all the drama outa football. i like the drama of tackles and such, it makes history, for example. The hand of god would of never counted if there was such things as video replays, they shouldnt introduce it.
dienasty 24-01-2004, 08:20:AM lets keep the game as pure as possible, its fun to watch guys scream and shout at the ref and at each other out there heh!
Hugo-45-Viana 24-01-2004, 08:50:AM Why don't they just give the players controllers and tv sets and have them play PES?

It worked for Laurent Robert. (H)(Y)
http://www.skysports.com/skysports/article/0,,55-1120217,00.html
Newcastle's Laurent Robert says that his remarkable acrobatic goal against Fulham was as a result of him playing on his son's computer games.
The French winger scored from an amazing overhead back-heel to help sink Fulham 3-1 at St James' Park on Monday night.
The 28-year-old says that he could not reproduce the goal even if he tried to - saying it was a one-off.
The former Paris Saint Germain man insists that he meant to score in the way he did, and says that he was inspired to try something different by playing on his son's computer game.
"If you asked me to do it again, I couldn't," said Robert.
"My son Mathieu called it a 'Ninja goal'. This is a result of me playing on his Playstation - it inspires me to try the craziest things.
"I had my back to goal and my only option was to try a reverse shot."
hahahah (Y)
santino 24-01-2004, 10:17:PM haha, he scored the goal like that becuase of the computer games, haha...thats hilarious(H)
Frostwolf 24-01-2004, 10:23:PM Don't think it was PES though.
Maybe one of the arcade footie games.
